Another 6.6 Million People File Unemployment Claims This Week…

The news is horrific.  The Dept. of Labor release today shows another whopping 6.6 million people filed for unemployment compensation last week.  That brings the total over the past three weeks to over sixteen million.

With 16 million people filing unemployment claims, the actual rate of unemployment is likely well into double digits [13% to 16%, possibly higher].  The COVID-19 shut down has completely collapsed major segments of the U.S. economy.

WASHINGTON – […] For the week ending March 21, 3.3 million people filed new unemployment claims, easily shattering the previous record set in 1982 of 695,000. Last week, that astounding figure doubled, as 6.6 million people filed claims for the week ending March 28 — a figure that was revised upward to 6.9 million in the new release.

Thursday’s figure was at the high end of analyst estimates, which ranged from 4.5 million to 7 million. (more)

The death toll as of this morning in the US was 14,800. But that is still 1,150 unemployed people for each (supposed) Covid-19 death.

It’s on POTUS. He is now talking another 4-8 weeks before opening. I never thought I would see this from Donald Trump. I elected him to stand up to this. His poll numbers are tanking. And it’s not Dems desserting him. It’s the working class people. I know maga who are done with him. The economy is too far damaged. if he doesn’t open it up by April 30, I am staying home in November. I didn’t vote Republican to see them stand around and destroy the economy. Any one who supports the shutdown is a coward.

This shutdown isn’t happening in a bubble, with the USA as the only participant. I get that a lot of folks like to see the big picture scenario as: if Hillary won, the status quo would’ve been maintained (ie, no trade dispute with China), and hence no virus, no shutdowns.
But, if your gonna play it that way, you also have to allow for the fact that the economic leaps we have taken under Trump wouldn’t have happened at nearly the same levels as during a Hillary admin.
The fact is, THIS IS HAPPENING, whether we like it or not. And the Democrats have to play by the same rules which starts with: : How would you have handled Covid 19 as President, Mr. Biden?” Everyone here at CTH can imagine that response.
The media can spin stuff for Biden’s benefit all they want, but history shows that they are trying to play both sides of the coin as Trump makes his decisions regarding this event.
Don’t get me wrong, I think this is all BS, and I’m sick of not working, but there is no way I would run out on Trump because of this. The economy will rebound and no amount of Democrat spin can tell me otherwise.

The reality of the 14,800 Reported deaths is because anyone who has died in the past 30-45 days and has symptoms of CV such as a cough, fever, shortness of breath GETS TO BE REPORTED ON THE DEATH CERTIFICATE as a COVID-19 death.

And based on their model miss of 4-5x times, this tells me that there is a possibility that 50-70% of these 14,800 deaths may also be classified wrong for the sole purpose to continue fear mongering because it is fear that gives them power.

PT is a fool for not ensuring that all COVID deaths recorded at least have tested positive before death and IMO even that is to loose.

      • You are right, but there is more.

Gates and his other globalist friends (Soros & others) want depopulation. The way you get there is to forcibly inject people with vaccines and added chemicals that sterilize people. China wants to damage President Trump. Big Pharma wants to make a killing, etc. etc.

All in the name of “help”.

The best way to thwart their plans is:

        1. Push the cure (HCQ) everywhere. It works, is safe and cheap. See Dr. Zelenko’s write-up – https://t.co/QJNF0JkLVt?amp=1. The fewer deaths the less justification they have for vaccines, closing down businesses and removing our liberties.
        2. Communicate to our president (whitehouse.gov/contact) and your governor (e.g. governorron.desantis@eog.myflorida.com for Florida) that we want economy opened again. The main point to make:
The (fake) “cure” is worse than the problem.

Ya hafta believe there’s ulterior motives in play here. Fear and panic by the MSM and the Progressives (both sides of the aisle), seems to be a driving factor in this shut down. This is about the only thing they can do to put a “hitch” in POTUS’s “get along!” Nothing else worked so nicely for them, so it’s now all in! An added benefit is no more Trump rallies. This is being worked in steps, first it was 2 weeks, then a month, then 2-3 months, now I expect it to go to the election in November! I see most of the shut down is by the State government, which means whoever is the Governor then is responsible for these actions, which the majority are Democrats and RINOs. For something that has questionable models to go by, is there something that this could be a test run for in the near future? If so, surely there will be someone that lets the “cat out of the bag!” The Left is playing with fire if they honestly believe that curtailing our Constitutional rights are being trampled on for much longer.

It gives me no pleasure to point out the truth of what Rush was saying today and I’m sure that Rush did not relish the idea of coming out as forcefully as he did. We know how much mutual respect and admiration both men have for each other.

But- one of the few freedoms we still have left is our freedom of speech and I am not giving that up for anything. It is wonderful that we can still come to the Tree House and discuss our viewpoints and share information about what’s going on. Nobody should be criticized or shunned for their opinion. This is not Fake Book.
If they take that away from us, then all bets are off and there will be blood on the streets sooner than later.

This virus is NOT the “common cold.”

Let’s get that straight. Per several recent doctor reports, Covid-19 attacks the red blood cells’ ability to transport oxygen to the cells of the body. Eventually the patient suffocates to death. Common colds don’t do that.

Also Covid-19 virus is at least two times (some estimates are higher) as contagious as “common flu” virus.

I want as much as every to see the shutdown end and the nation return to business and restore the economy, pronto. But let’s make sure we really understand the risks and how to get back to “normal.” I think that’s the information that the President is working through at this time.

  7. Rush today had what was probably one of the best shows of his entire career.
He laid out this untenable situation we are in as only he can.
Rush spent 3 hours putting it all out there, and without saying it in so many words, he effectively laid it on the line for our President Trump- OPEN UP THE COUNTRY or risk losing everything including the election.
There is no one more patriotic or supportive of our President than Rush. He does not come to this conclusion lightly or without tremendous research, study and analysis of the FACTS.
But everything he said today needs to be taken to heart by our President and his loyal team members.
We simply cannot go on like this, destroying our Republic and the last bastion of Freedom, Liberty and Hope based on the lies and distortions of some Deep State operatives who have been proven 100% WRONG at every turn. Why would anyone ever listen to these Deep State Devils?
Today is Holy Thursday, tomorrow Good Friday and this Nation is suffering our own agony as never before. As Rush pointed out- WE DID THIS TO OURSELVES.

          • Frankie Z- you are 100% right! Here in Westchester County NY, the Catholic Churches were the first ones to shut their doors and stop celebrating and Mass and the other sacred ceremonies. Not one priest or monsignor opened their mouth in protest or bothered to look at the Executive Order which states that churches CAN hold services as long as they space the people far enough apart. Very simple, hold services for as many people as can fit in the very large Church. .
Another thing- Cuomo’s Exec Orders do not have the full force and effect of LAW. Problem is that the courts are shut down so no way to contest the legality of all of these illegal and un-Constitutional acts.
I was born and raised Catholic and while I still consider myself a Christian and believe most of their spiritual tenets, I long ago left the Church because of the gross hypocrisy of the priests and the hierarchy. Plus, they do not support their parishioners. Closing schools and churches all over the place.

The unemployment numbers will keep getting worse as so many jobs are dependent on others. Where will this leave us if it goes on much longer/ It is also going to push off many retirement plans people might have had due to the losses in investments.

If it doesn’t open up soon, we won’t have much of a country to open up. We are nearing a point of no return. We might already be crossed that point, as money shrinks and you are concerned over every purchase because you might need every last dime you have to get food.

What happened to the talk about cure being worse than the disease? Well, we are just about there. The numbers do not support this stupid action. We may be faced with an economy so in the hole that it could take years to recover from this. And we have a lot of deep state actors who are involved with this.

      This is a HUGE concern!

I have read / heard, that weak links the food production and transport delivery system are beginning to get stressed and may break, which may lead to an out-control-spiral the consequences and horrors of which we do not want to even imagine.

The data used to make decisions was wrong. We are not at risk of having 2 million deaths from the virus. Not even 200K or even 100K. And the current numbers are false as well (see my link below).

If the data that the decision for extending the shutdown is based on is proven false, then stop extending the shut down!

One thing to know about these unemployment numbers is that the CARES Act actually allows and encourages employers to temporarily layoff and cut hours for employees and to shift their payroll expenses to the unemployment insurance system. This is especially true since the feds are kicking in an extra $600 per week in addition to state unemployment amounts. The law lets employers file partial and full unemployment claims for employees not working due to stay at home orders or virus related issues. The numbers are bad, but a lot of the unemployment is short term IMO and many of these people will be hired back immediately.

Terrible news. I got the links below from two previous posters and they were great.

The “Delphi Method” is a research effort on any particular subject derived from the ancient Greeks. Essentially, it is a bottom up opinion based answer to a given question or problem, based on many individuals expertise and their empirical experiences. The opinions of those medical professionals on the front line, count, especially when, albeit, anecdotal, are in great numbers.

Covid 19’s number one byproduct seems to be the creation of medical celebrities who dwell in a celestial empyrean where their unquestioned proclamations guide us through a plague that dare not be named. The ne plus ultra star in this new and revered cadre of ‘experts’ is Dr. Anthony Fauci. Day after day, we are cajoled and conditioned to expect our certain demise if we sway from his august advice and consider any cure, relief or panacea for the current Chi-Com inflicted curse that confines us all to house arrest under threat of imprisonment and or, social opprobrium. In spite of the tsunami of again, anecdotal evidence of the mitigation of this man made affliction, Hydroxychloroquine is “verboten” by the newly minted, media and medical Obergruppenfuhers now in complete control of our daily lives. Harboring dangerous ideas of returning to work and reacquiring any independence by way of the sweat of our brow and not waiting in situ and in supplication for deliverance from Federal authorities is now considered anti-American anathema by the chattering classes.

Fauci’s record of predictions in this Covid 19 crisis has been, as has the WHO’s record, desultory, pernicious and self serving. I’m sure there is a book and a movie of the week in the works.

The real work, by real medical professionals is starting to shed some much needed light on the crux of the problem, what it is, how to deal with it and actions that should, and (This is important.) should NOT be taken. Here is a video of a rhetorically extemporaneously brilliant doctor, working in New York in the fire of the storm, telling us, pleading with us, to open our minds to what might be the real problem in treating Covid 19.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20200405061401/https://medium.com/@agaiziunas/covid-19-had-us-all-fooled-but-now-we-might-have-finally-found-its-secret-91182386efcb

At some point, we can all hope, is sooner rather than later, there will be a retrospective, root and branch forensics examination of the actions and intentions of those in the 4th estate and the Federal Government who have directed us into this painful episode in our nation’s history. Until then, it could be, that as the worms in front of the camera turn, our friends in the medical profession in our own neighborhoods and hospitals will produce enough “anecdotal” evidence to bring this pandemic to it’s knees and force the ‘experts’ to free us from our prisons.

The only plan for ending it is for Donald Trump to stop trying to be the Compassionator, stop listening to those sorry dough-faced Rasputins from the CDC and start changing the Narrative. He needs to start dragging into the conversation uncomfortable truths about the lies, propagandistic collusion and incompetence of and among the scientific community, China and the media. He needs to bring in some new doctors into his circle, highly reputable figures like Dr. Sucharit Bhakdi and Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg from Germany who have publicly and scientifically refuted all the conventional panic about Corona.

He needs to hammer home the projected catastrophe of a prolonged economic shutdown, the totality of the individual human cost as well as the national financial cost.

He needs to point out the increasing and alarming specter of police state behavior around the country, and to put police, city councils, mayors and governors on notice that the DOJ is watching. The freedom activists and Constitutionalist movement (which I’m sure many here embrace or support) desperately need some morale boosts right now.

We need an exit and victory strategy. We need it reiterated again and again. We need to be uplifted beyond dry recitations of mortality statistics, flattening curves and infection rates. We need to start imagining our freedom and our American ideal rather than being compelled to imagine an indefinite future of “sheltering in place.”

It has become clear that we can only get to perfect health if everyone is unemployed. This is called the Fausi/Birx Plan. As obedient peasants we must Trust the Plan developed by our betters. After all, bot Dr. Fausi and Dr. Birx went to the very finest Ivy League schools where they were well schooled in bloviating and ruminations, of course, to begin with, and then the different branches of arithmetic: ambition, falsification, scarification and modelization. Trust them. It may look to the uneducated mind like they are far afield, but they are actually right on target and know precisely what they are doing. Just be patient.

Let me see now, I have modeled it all out. 6.6 million times Pi, multiplied by the speed of light over sigma, times the number of days until the election is … … … Oh my! I My calculator started smocking and then blew up!

Perhaps if Dr. Fausi and Dr. Birx just start over at the very beginning and this time they read the directions, then perhaps directly they will be able to direct themselves in the right direction to the place they should rightly end up.

What is even worse, in NY state, to file for unemployment, you first file online (after several attempts because the website crashes), and then you have to CALL a phone number to SPEAK to a person so they can verify your information before your claim is officially filed. Good luck getting through on that number! There are countless people in NY who haven’t been able to get through for weeks, so they have been unemployed and not getting unemployment checks, while Cuomo is on TV every day acting like a savior. So many people are freaking out and feeling helpless and spending all day calling the number desperate to get through. It would be great if the people filing for unemployment could actually get the state to give them money.

look at the guidance Louisiana sends after you file as a self-employed individual

Every claim is reviewed by a staff member first before any unemployment benefits are paid. It usually takes about 21 days from the time you first file your claim until a determination is made. This includes what we call the week of waiting that is required of all new claims. During those 21 days, we contact your former employers and gather needed information to determine your eligibility for benefits.

If you are still unemployed during those 21 days, be sure to keep filing for weekly benefits to avoid any interruption of payments once funds are released if you are determined to be eligible for benefits.
Don’t forget that you must be actively searching for work while unemployed. You will be asked to provide information on at least three new job searches every week whenever you file for weekly benefits.

It’s FUBAR and exactly what the President warned the democrats would happen.

The last time my friend was on Unemployment he said it took almost 2 months to get his check which he said was under $400 per week back in 2013. So if the Unemployed do in fact get through the extra $600 is like winning the lottery. The only issue is getting through the mess to receive the checks in time. I haven’t seen anything that helps people who were not employed during this mess, of whom also weren’t on Govt’ Benefits. What are those regular people supposed to do? This is like nothing this country has ever seen… and the Govt’ is supposed to save the Day for everyone??? That’s the same one that would rather see you starve and pay high taxes, than eat. Hahaha….

I know you don’t think that, Henry J, but that is in fact the expectation and assumption of the majority of people who live in this country now. I will not call them Americans because, under a variety of definitions, they are not.

Every blue state, county, and city has people in places of authority who have promised that “the government will save the day for everyone”. That’s how they got elected, and that’s how they will get elected again.

The only thing I can think of is for you to get on TV. Many local news stations have a reporter assigned to stories like yours.

Local news is anxious to report on various things, so why don’t you try calling your local stations with your story. Even better if you know a few more people in your locality with the same issue.

This isn’t living. I can’t see my children or my grandchildren. Friends are hiding in their homes. There is nowhere to go, nothing to do. What will be left when this over?

I mailed an Easter package to my grandchildren. It is sitting in their garage because the parents are afraid to touch the box, for some indeterminate period of time while the imagined virus contamination dies. Maybe they will be brave enough to open it by Sunday.

    This is ridiculously, needlessly tragic.

Where is all of this generalized fear originating? Either for individuals or for groups? A package cannot cause fear. Not even lying government officials (who are apparently filled with fear themselves) can CAUSE fear

I think I’m going to start calling it “the stupid pandemic” as my granddaughter’s new Alabama mother-in-law calls it. The wedding was two weeks ago. None of us could attend because of airline realities, and because my son works in a job where he is exposed, daily, to who knows what, and there would be a lopsided potential for him carrying the virus. On the day of the wedding she (a very, fun, stable matriarch in a huge southern family) texted my son to express her indignation that he could not be present to walk his lovely daughter to meet her groom, and she referred to “this stupid pandemic”.

I thought that struck a remarkable appropriate tone, since I also know that she and her family live with reality and they deal with reality. She’s not ignorant. She’s just sick of the stupid pandemic.

      Me, too.

  38. Bad stuff like this doesn’t just happen by accident, never buy into this BS. Bad stuff is engineered. Below is a copy of some very good questions that we all should be asking.

    1. How come Event 201, wherein globalists met to simulate a corona virus pandemic in NYC just six weeks prior to the actual pandemic, had the likes of Bill Gates and media representatives discussing how to control a world narrative by circumventing the sovereignty of our States using covert and stealth means? Is this what you’d expect them to be doing when simulating a worldwide pandemic?

    2. How come WHO and China both stated up until Feb. 3 that the corona virus was not transmitted human-to-human and was not a problem, and then berated Trump for his travel bans with accusations that he overreacted?

    3. How come the mayor of NYC, even after Trump’s travel ban, encouraged his constituents to celebrate Chinese New Years in the city streets in late Feb?

    4. How come Pelosi went on live TV and told her constituents to come to Chinatown in late Feb?

    5. Why did both Dr. Fauci and the WHO Director both applaud China for how they handled the virus?

    6. Why is the CDC allowed to own vaccine patents? Isn’t that a conflict of interests?

    7. Why was funding for a corona virus dropped, according to Dr. Peter Hotez and other vaccine scientists, who argue that SARS, and the Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS, of 2012, should have triggered major federal and global investments to develop vaccines in anticipation of future epidemics. Instead, the SARS vaccine that Hotez’s team created in collaboration with scientists at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is sitting in a freezer, no closer to commercial production than it was four years ago.

    8. How come both Obama and Cuomo did not refill their medical supply coffers after the H1N1 epidemic?

    9. Why have the hospitals been instructed to put Covid-19 as the cause of death even they are not sure or assume it with no proof? This skews all numbers extremely high.

    10. Why did Cuomo say that the stockpile of ventilators found in a NJ warehouse were not yet needed and that’s why they are stored there while also stating that his state needs more ventilators?

    11. Why was the USA shut down with only 48 deaths at the time? There was no shutdown with larger numbers of H1N1?

    12. Who owns the corona virus patents and do they have any bearing on vaccines being researched now? Who’s funding all the research?

    13. Why was the announcement of the successful testing of hydroxychloroquine made out to be unworthy of value at first? And why did Cuomo and Sisolak (NY and NV) ban it’s use in their States at first when we have the “Right To Try” policy in medicine?

    14. Did Gov Sisolak actually hoard huge amounts of hydroxychloroquine for his inmates as has been rumored by a leak from a company who received his order? Or is this false?

    15. Is it curious to anyone else that, in 2017 when Pirbright Institute in England was applying for its corona vaccine patents, that a married couple who ran the largest manufacturer of hydroxychloroquine were brutally murdered? Is it even furthermore of interest that they had donated medicines to the Clinton Foundation for Haiti and were speaking to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to donate billions to one of their other offshoot foundations? (Barry and Honey Sherman died Dec. 2017 from hanging by their pool)

    16. Who funds Pirbright Institute? Are they connected to globalists?

    17. Who is the largest independent funder for WHO? And what is his role?

    18. Why is Bill Gates and his ID2020 pushing for mandatory vaccines and ID chips for all?

    19. Why are some US politicians pushing for illegal immigrants to receive Covid-19 relief funding when our legal citizens still have not received any stimulus funding and some cannot even get onto the unemployment web site?

    20. Why is there no proof of any bats being sold in the Wuhan market wherein the virus supposedly originated?

    21. What ever happened to the Harvard Professor and the Chinese lieutenant who were arrested in January for lying about their involvement in assisting with virus research in the Wuhan lab?

    22. Why in the world were the Democrats spending so much focus and money on the impeachment trial with the pandemic starting, and why are they starting another attack on our President during the most crucial time of the pandemic?

    23. Has anyone verified the classified ads in a China paper wherein the Wuhan lab was advertising to hire persons to research transmissions of corona virus from bats to humans?

    24. Why are there no current safety tests for vaccines and no financial liability for the vaccine manufacturers if harm done? Why is there a taxpayer-funded account to pay out vaccine damages?

    25. Why is it okay for “my body, my choice” when it comes to abortion but not for the push on forced vaccines?

Don’t be sorry. Anyone paying attention and reading beyond the headlines “don’t get it”.
They are so short of Covid victims, they are classifying “died WITH” as “died OF” in an effort to justify trampling on our civil rights. This has obliterated the real economy, the main street small biz economy.. For what?
I don’t blame Trump for the initial response. All we had to work on was iffy Chinese data. But once it moved across europe, hit those boats, etc. That was good data we could then dig into to justify immediate relaxation of the “lock down” mitigation rules. If your NOT in the 5 or 6 risk groups (cancer, diabetes, immune issues, heart disease, etc) the risk of death from this is .06%.
To NOT open the economy up asap, tell those at risk to shelter/isolate, tell other we mask up, use proven drugs to treat… F@#$ing criminal.
Then to lie to my face, tell me these models that were grossly wrong from the start, are being updated as a result of the awesome job we’re doing as good little sheep at self-isolation is unforgivable… The curve was decelerating/rolling over on it’s own, before mitigating factors were taken. To pretend that those numbers were our destiny if we didn’t act is a horrible lie. They were always nothing but a wild doomsday guess and the numbers were being updated to CYA/save face..
Could a statist do any more harm to our free market economy and Constitutional rule of law than what Trump has encouraged? Don’t think so. He’s either been totally bamboozled by the bureaucrat resisters Birx/Fauci, or he’s committed to a chosen path and will follow it, economy and Truth be damned.. Either way, he deserves a huge share of the blame here.
The death and misery that’ll result as a consequence will dwarf by and incredible factor, any death and misery the virus will bring.

Yes, there are alot of people filing unemployment but for very short term. The COVID numbers are already leveling out and declining. The stock market has already been rebounding. All the money that people lost from their retirement funds will quickly be restored with PT and his excellent team. Many jobs were in the service industry and people will go back to work quickly.

    • We all here support President Trump and he will be the best one for the job of restoring our economy.

But let’s use facts and common sense here, instead of trying to shame others.

It is a fact that the longer the shutdown continues the more damage the economy has and the longer it takes to recover from it. Not really rocket science, is it?

The data that President Trump used to make his decision was proven wrong. We are not at risk of having 2 million deaths from the virus. Not even 200K or even 100K. And the current numbers are false as well (see my link below).

If the data that the decision for extending the shutdown is based on is proven false, then stop extending the shut down!

      It’s just common sense.

    • Rvsueandcrew, we went shopping at our local Walmart, were counted in while two were counted out, and were very happy to see only about 20% of the shoppers wearing any kind of masks.

Most of the ones who were wearing the “masks” were wearing scarfs like a bandit and they looked a little silly.

To be honest they looked a little sheepish like they knew they looked silly and wished they had left their Frito Bandito scarfs at home.

Most of the shoppers were moving freely and easily around keeping their six feet Covid virus distance from each other but not making a big deal about it.

When we went in my husband asked the lady counting us in if the store had every hit the “shut down number” of shoppers and she said ” nope not even close”.

Our store allows 1100 shoppers in on the ” so many in and so many out policy” and she said the most they have ever had in was a little over 700 on last Friday night.

She showed us that at the time we were shopping they had about 150 shoppers.

But she still has to stand there and make a Big Deal about counting us in while her co-worker makes a Big Deal counting us out.

      Way to go Walmart.
