I’m not sure people who do not have the political radar we here on CTH have are seeing the truth in these press conferences. I think many people are just believing everything. They think Dr. Doom is an expert and they believe what he says. And then you have the tooth lady and they believe what she says and it might be a tad different from what Dr. Doom says. These press conferences are ginning up anxiety, fear, and confusion, especially with the disgusting press and their stupid questions. I just wish President Trump and/or VP Pence would sit in front of a camera every night, tell us what we need to know to do our best for our country and our fellow man; give the statistics. And truly give us hope in a very calm manner and not let the waters get so muddied with all these various people jacking their jaws in front of the podium every bleepin’ day.

I’m reading not only on this board but several others, and all over Twitter, the same story: there are tons of sick people out there who not only can’t get a test, they can’t get their Dr to see them, even people with serious existing conditions who should ABSOLUTELY BE ON THE PLAQUENIL-ZPAK-ZINC regimen RIGHT NOW. Drs are telling them don’t come in, go to ER if you get worse. It’s SENSELESS. Some of these folks will die needlessly. I even heard I have one person who said they called in to their doctor with all of these symptoms and in real respiratory distress and the nurse asked them if they had been to China?! An appropriate question, say, a month ago. But has this nurse been living in a cave? Anyway, long story short this person is not being tested. This is real– what’s happening on the ground. It’s crazy.

We’ve got to stop waiting and only treating these people when they get at death’s door and show up at a hospital. There’s got to be testing at the doctor’s office level and then these medications prescribed. I just don’t get it that we’re still in this paralysis this many days into the outbreak. Anyway that’s my rant. I’m not a doctor, I only play one on the internet 🙂

In cases, with any degree of respiratory distress, at least, docs could rule out other causes, like influenza and bacterial pneumonia or bronchitis. Corona isn’t the only thing that causes pretty much the same symptoms. It’s not even an odd thing to do. It’s standard stuff that’s done everyday to determine appropriate treatments.

      • Actually there are tests sitting idle. The labs can only run so many and the backlog generates limitations on who can be tested. IN NYC the main rule is hospitalized patients only. There is now an attempt to also test hospital staff & first responders. The new test that gives results on site in 15 minutes is being rolled out today according to last nights presser.

Two of my best friends are nurses and working long, long shifts. 4 days on 3 off unless they are short of staff. One said that between last week-one floor of cv patients and this week, there are now 2 1/2 floors full of covid patients, mostly younger, 30-49 and very sick. She said she had totally changed her mind over the last week about how bad this really is–her thinking last week was it would be another occurrence like the flu– and warned us all in a text she sent yesterday to take it very seriously. So from an on the ground, front of the action position, there is a need not to underestimate what is going on. This is in upstate NY and the other friend is a surgical nurse in Roch. NY who said basically the same thing. Take it any way you want, but that is true fact right now here. I don’t think we should take this too lightly folks and I was one who did up until last week. Not anymore as my friends, who are in the hospitals working, are reporting in and telling me what’s going on.

Modifying that post. Were any of those hospital patients offered treatment with the three medicines recommended by Zelensky as successful? when they became short of breath? because that is what Zelensky aims at — keeping patients at home on the cocktail, and sending for hospitalization only if they begin to have difficulty with breathing which is a sign of ARDS, a different and much more dangerous situation

Georgia is not testing unless you go to the hospital. On the health department page of Carroll county it says this.

Message from Dr. Olugbenga Obasanjo, MD, PhD, MPH, MBA
There is absolutely no need for testing for contacts of known positives. If you have come into contact with a confirmed positive case, you need to self-quarantine for 14 days.
If, within those 14 days, you become symptomatic, you will need to remain isolated for 7 days from when the symptoms start OR 3 days after symptoms stop, whichever is longer.
If you do not develop symptoms you will be cleared after 14 days. Obviously, if your symptoms become severe, you may need to be hospitalized. Those severe symptoms include:
      Have difficulty breathing/choking
      Have an allergic reaction
Have symptoms of a heart attack or stroke
      Are confused, dizzy, or disoriented
Have difficulty speaking, walking, or seeing
      Have sudden, severe pain
Please call ahead to the ER, DO NOT come through the emergency room, this puts others in the community at risk.
Keep in mind, our emergency rooms are going to be overwhelmed with seriously ill patients. Do not add to the load by coming to the hospital with symptoms that can be mitigated at home.

convert, there are parts of your comment with which I agree and parts with which I can’t quite align.
As one in high-risk age group, I’ve been following everything related to treatments/cures and tests for COVID-19. Until given some hope of an effective treatment by the HC AZ zinc regimen, I had little interest in tests. Yes, they may reveal the number of expected deaths, or how fast the virus spreads, but those numbers hold little interest for me.

My interest grew a little when the FDA finally issued an order regarding the use of HC AZ for treatment of COVID-19. As I read the order, the anecdotal regimens could be prescribed if the patient had COVID-19 and was hospitalized.

Catch 22 there: would a hospital admit you without having been tested for COVID-`19? Who had approved tests except the hospitals which were advising people to stay away? If you were in enough distress to persuade a hospital to admit you, had you already missed the optimum window for effective treatment by the regimens. Most of the doctors reporting success apparently started the drugs as the fever and aches appeared and before respiratory distress.

Because of the discrepancies, I started questioning my family physician. Without pointing to a specific anecdotal study, I asked if he would prescribe a regimen if I had COVID-19 and a temperature higher than 100F. His response suggests to me that he probably won’t act unless he sees it written up in a medical journal and peer reviewed to a fair thee well.

I hope you are on good terms with several doctors with varying experience and outlooks. I’m waiting for a HC AZ study that blows away the FDA and CDC and gives doctors and pharmacies an “aha” moment. I’m proud that I didn’t write my original thought.

She didn’t want to say, ‘what’s on the horizon,’ because that would have informed the world that, at that early moment, she already knew what was coming! She concealed that information because it proves prior knowledge that Crisis 2020, in an election year when Donald Trump was standing for a second term, was planned beforehand, and was on the way.
She did not want to let people know it was coming to our shores (as she had been notified), only that it was in other countries.

We need to get through this crisis, rebuild supply lines for everything we import from China and then quietly disengage. We need to strip all of the positions in University & industry paid for by China, not use electronics containing possible Chinese spyware. But we don’t need to shoot off our mouths.

Hoping that those who are filming their hospital now will do the same hospital in one week and again in two weeks from now, that will give is a greater insight as to the ‘surge’, the importance of the prep work by removing ‘elective surgeries, whether plastic or heart valve replacements’ from the docket to prepare the hospital spaces to receive infected people, or, if it was all for nothing.

Since the story is that we’re all quarantining to lower the curve, and the experts are predicting much havoc in the next 2 weeks regarding incoming patients and needs for ventilators, it seems important for these people who are now filming their hospital to follow through on these projected events –

Tried finding hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol lately? I am glad to see the “blowback” beginning at long last. Yes, we have been played. We were all told that we could “flatten the curve” if we shut down our economy and stood far apart, stopped going to movies and to church. Shopkeepers are wearing masks and gloves when for fifty years they never did so. We’ve given people all sorts of disruptions so that they would feel not only that they “were doing something” but also that “they needed to.”

What we actually have is basically a cold-virus. In more than 90% of the cases that’s all you get, if you get anything. In a very small number of cases you get very severe symptoms, a kine-storm, and even death. But the word is, “very small.” Much too small to in any way “justify” these responses, which most likely are not affecting the virus at all.

PDJT, sitting in the command-chair, acted in good faith on the information and advice that was given to him, as did his subordinates, but I think that it was incorrect – and that the blowback will be enormous when people finally start resuming their lives and in doing so they realize that nothing useful came from the disruption, except millions of lost jobs some of which will never come back no matter how many trillions of dollars rain down from the sky.

Yes. We must also add the costs of other externalities such as: health care deferred in order to keep the hospitals “free and clear” for all the “potential cases,” the rise in divorce and the negative health consequences attributed to it given “stay at home” stresses, the rise in alcohol and drug abuse from limited social interaction, etc. These are simply the health effects. The economic ones measure into the tens of $ trillions.

This is what I believe. Is this crisis being over hyped, of course, all crisis are. Politcal parties. the press and people who have agendas are always looking for events to exploit.
Is this a pandemic, the general consensus is it is. Just how bad is it, that still remains to be seen.
Have our leaders (Trump, Governors, world leading Drs, ect) overacted, probably, I don’t think in this type of world crisis you have any other choice considering the alternative.
How will the country respond when this crisis is over, just like we always have. People will be glad that they and their families are alive and well and it’s time to get back to as normal as possible Yes jobs will have been lost and our way of living will change but we will deal with it and move, we always do.
And Trump will still be president, and just like he has done in the past he will start (if he hasn’t already) looking into how this all started and who did what and he will tell us what he has found out. Remember he has done this before, think Russia and impeachment and FBI and CIA. He exposed it for all to see, why would this be any different.

“Bad doctor. No biscuit.” If you leave the entire nation “shut down for a month and a half,” you won’t have anything left to start up.

And let’s talk about the common flu: https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/quality/flu-count-nears-10m-cases-cdc-says.html (published three months ago)

The flu has already sickened an estimated 9.7 million people and killed 4,800 this season, according to the CDC’s most recent FluView report.

So now, this not-so horrible “horrible virus” …

If you have 15,000 deaths from 1,000,000 cases, that means that 998,500 people recovered, or never had symptoms at all. So, why are we shutting down the entire world for this?

Also – given that we did shut down the world, why didn’t this cause the number of cases to plummet? If the number of cases didn’t plummet, then it means that we shut down the world for no good reason.

      It’s blowback time.

Look at H1N1 in 2009-2010. Similar circumstances, new virus, nobody had immunity, there was no vaccine. It spread like wildfire. Within the first couple of months 1 million people in the US were infected. When it was all done, 65 million in the US. (I’ve seen 60.8 million, that’s a lot too.) There were two peaks, late Spring 2009 and October 2009. The pandemic lasted from April 2009 to August 2010. 12,000+ people in the US alone died. I believe a vaccine was made available around or shortly after the second peak which caused the infection rate to drop off rather rapidly.

If Trump had not begun travel restrictions when he did, if he had not acted subsequent to that, we could have easily seen a infections go to 65 million in the US. With a fatality rate of 2% that would be 1.3 million deaths.

I asked in response to another commenter … where is your line? What number of deaths are you willing to accept? When you settle on that number, what are you willing to sacrifice to stay below that number? And how would you feel if someone you loved were among the fatalities? Would you feel you had done enough? That it’s OK they died because they had some pre-existing condition therefore they were not worthy of being protected?

In the end we’re going to see who was right about COVID-19. I personally think May is too soon for the peak, I hope I’m wrong. And I think we might see a second peak in the fall. I think we can easily see a million cases of infection here in the US, and at least 20k deaths. And it’s this low because of the drastic measures that have been taken, without those measures the numbers would be much greater.

      • Yes the presser had a long segment about it. They were working on a visual aid for the Governors to see what labs they could use & what the backlog and throughput was at each. The limiting step is not the test not the lab slots available it is the mismatch of people sending everything to the lab they are used to so that lab gets overwhelmed & the other labs sit idle.
The new test that can be run at the site where patients are seen is being rolled out today. That is expected to have a big impact on numbers of tests that can be done & reported daily.

Patients reporting to Beaufort Memorial’s emergency room (ER) with mild fever and respiratory symptoms may be directed to the COVID-19 triage and screening tents in the parking lot directly in front of the ER.

The alternate screening site opened to accommodate more patients and staff comfortably, while protecting ER patients without respiratory symptoms from potential exposure. The site includes two climate-controlled tents, one of which serves as a waiting/triage area and the other a test collection site. The site will operate 24/7 until further notice.

“Our highest priority is patient and staff safety, and we believe this new triage and screening site supports both,” said BMH President and CEO Russell Baxley. “We are grateful to SC DHEC for loaning the tents to us, and to the Charleston Fire Department for deploying them to Beaufort for this purpose.” […]

I have heard physicians recommend that people with severe COVID-19 symptoms NOT show up in an ER but find an alternate way to present themselves to the hospital, because if they show up in an ER they a great risk to other people who are there for non-COVID-19 reasons.

There’s no rational reason for you to doubt that the woman died from the SARS-CoV-2-triggered pneumonia. If not for the infection she would still be alive, though unhealthy. If she had a bacterial pneumonia you probably wouldn’t have difficulty accepting that it was the bacteria that killed her. Don’t be emotional about SARS-CoV-2. Don’t let it drive you to conspiracy thinking. It’s a virus, easily transmitted, possibly genetically engineered by the Chinese to do extra damage. We will get huge numbers in terms of testing positive now, because we actually have a test.
We will get huge numbers of people dead, because virtually everyone that dies is going to be counted as dead due to the virus until something else is proven to be the case. It is happening already.
In my state, we have had X number of deaths as POSSIBLE from this, but on that site you love so much and keep referring to, it is listed as “POSITIVE” that they died from the Wuhan flu. Do you see my problem?
The exponential frame starts not with “one”, because that makes the assumption that a single person on that original plane had the virus. By the time that plane landed, more than that one person was infected, particularly if you agree that “patient zero” was in the hospital two days later and therefore identified. Being cautious, I would say that “patient zero” infected at least 2 others. You already have 3 right there to start your exponential. That isn’t including all the others that flew into the country during this time period, the planes that were never “decontaminated”, the flight attendants, the other passengers in the airport, etc etc etc.
My argument isn’t that this isn’t real, it is. My argument isn’t that people won’t die from it, they will and are. My argument is, this has been spreading for a very long time, it has been here for months unchecked, and what we see is a lot of infection because we can actually test for it, and all deaths being attributed to it for reasons that I refuse to speculate on.
If we ever get real numbers out of this, it will be long after the damage is done.

When passengers had an urge to touch their face, the mask would come off. When a sneeze was coming, the mask would come off while the sneeze sprayed into the cabin. Who wants to sneeze into a mask?

If the purpose of a mask is to protect those around you from your infectious sneeze and spittle or to protect you from infecting yourself, it was lost on this group. I pondered what the heck is going on in these peoples minds. The best I can come up with is that they believe the virus is similar to dust or pollen. Cuomo is being groomed. Sundance caught on

Most here already know this, but how the dems

This is extremely important for everyone to understand. Infected people started falling ill at least as early as early December and started showing up at hospitals in Wuhan at least as early as mid-December. (My references are on my other computer so can’t get to them right now, the info came from a New England Journal of Medicine paper, a team of researchers had been provided access to the patient records.)

They did not shut down the alleged source of the virus, the wet market, until after Jan 1.

On Jan 13 a Chicago resident flew back from Wuhan. She was sick with COVID-19. 2 or 3 days later she was hospitalized and became Chicago’s first known COVID-19 patient. Imagine how many other people were travelling between mid-December and mid-January, unabated.

I am usually pretty good with numbers, but I can’t make any sense of the conflated mess that passes for statistics on this viral outbreak. What a mess. It will take decades to discover and correct all the reporting errors, if that is ever pursued. I don’t have decades, so I will just continue to guess from my own experience what may be happening around me. Just like I suspect the cave dwellers must have done.

It’s not a mess. We’re dealing with an easily transmissible virus that nobody has immunity to and there is no vaccine. There’s a very fast ramp-up of infections. The same thing happened in 2009 with H1N1, though we were luckier that year because it wasn’t as deadly. Still, 12,000+ people died in like a 14 month span of time. SARS-CoV-2 is deadlier because it tends to cause pneumonia, really bad pneumonia in people who have compromised immune systems or lung functioning.

Obviously, if the Wuhan Virus ends up being much less deadly than the “experts” predicted, that will be great thing for American families, right? It will be a time for us to rejoice, but also a time for mea culpas. Will you be rejoicing at the good news and preparing your mea culpa?

We’re already well past the point where I would need to apologize for anything. I’ve been right about this since early January. I knew it was going to blow up, and that’s exactly what is happening. We are at best weeks from the peak, I actually think it’s more likely that we are still a month or more away from the peak and there might be a second one in the fall. I have followed the data and looked at past pandemics in great depth and that knowledge is proving very valuable. I’m not allowing my mistrust of certain people to cloud my logical reasoning. I suggest others do the same.

I bought masks in January. People thought I was crazy then. Not so much now.

          • That’s what I figured . . . you’ll move the goalposts. No, the only part of the Wuhan Virus that has “blown up” so far is the economic self-destruction. You were on here a month ago trying to scare people with a >4% death rate and millions of predicted dead. Do you think the 200K predicted dead is b.s.? I do. If you think it’s a legit prediction and the number ends up being under 30K (a number which will be inflated as it is), you’ll still be “right,” of course . . . right?

I think he’s got a good point, I pay business insurance and it does, supposedly, cover all kinds of things that would shut down business.

Wolfgang says there will be a gradual ramping up of the businesses like his (worldwide restauraunter) because they can’t have 100 employees and only 100 customers.

Says the President is helping them by allowing corporations to deduct food as a business expense.

Says he’s concerned about the people that work for him and others that have lost jobs and were living paycheck to paycheck. Seems like a pretty good guy and supportive of the President.

What Puck wants is for the insurance companies to pay up even though the RISK of a pandemic was NOT included into the price and cost for the various policies.

    A Trump Deplorable here
I went to the over 400 CTH comments at the conclusion of yesterday’s briefing. First tried to read the most current comments… gave up & tried the oldest comments … gave up.
Asking myself, did those people see the same briefing I just saw?
A couple of days ago i posted about statistics. i have no problem with statistics or models. My problem is with the Convulsive Contusions.
To expand my thought, why do folks ASSUME that the 2 faces we see most at these briefings, Dr F & Dr B, are the ONLY people who are giving POTUS info? I asked all the critics if THEY are talking to all the governors daily, and all the heads of 151 affected nations? As well as getting info from the Task group, and I don’t know how many more sources?
Then i saw a poll that Biden is accelerating in popularity over Trump.
Brain would not shut down when I was trying to sleep – I dreamed up a scenario. Disclaimer: i absolutely detest every post that starts out “Trump should” or “Trump shouldn’t’ That said, here’s my thought… invite the Dem Pres candidate(s) to the Task Force summary one day. For each ‘candidate’, rinse & repeat. For the conspirators, lets assume that the democrat deep staters give the chosen Dem their ‘true thoughts’ on data, not the info they give to the President they can dupe. Then let the chosen one run the press briefing and stand before the reporters and answer questions for an hour – with no notes.
Since these pressers have top rated viewership from folks stuck at home, hungry for news, a Biden-led presser would be very revealing – especially to Dem voters. As would the same thing from a Dem VP choice, or Hillary, the smartest woman in the world. I bet Bernie wouldn’t do it. None of them would be able to present a plan. No criticism of the past allowed. How would ‘they’ propose going forward to get us on a safe path.
Does anyone here have any doubts about what such a presser would reveal to voters?
Bottom line, I am with Rush, who this morning is praising the info gleaned from the presser, and praising the reporters for how they behaved. My only problem with their questions is my fear that they simply are not capable of grasping the magnitude of the problems we are facing.
I think about these forecast ‘models’ this way. Before a hurricane hits there is plenty of warning. But the sky is blue, the weather warm. Lots of folks will not evacuate because they have survived a hurricane. On a shorter time line, the same is true of tornados. Sometimes with a tornado you don’t have time after the sirens go off to get to shelter.
So, IMHO, just because YOUR area has little or no problem right now, you can’t be sure you are safe. Please stop attacking POTUS for limits inflicted by your governor and local gvmt. They are working to keep you alive.
IF the warning about the possible horror of the next 2 weeks from POTUS and his team come true, the projected number of suffering and deaths is truly scary. If the ‘storm’ is not as severe we are very lucky.

April Fools. Virus is a total hoax people. Italy National Institute of health, after analyzing a large sample of covid deaths concluded that only 12% could be attributed to covid. That is roughly 1000 people thus far. Problem is, the average number of deaths a day in Italy is around 1800 people. Other facts, the msm doesn’t want you to know: Average age of covid death = average age of normal death (ie old people you would expect to die. Also, there are data sources that keep tabs on the total amount of deaths by weekly within given populations. Unfortunately, the data is only up to date as of March 14th and March 21 in the US and the UK. This data, though, should be the silver bullet to disprove the covid hoax. If in a month from now, there is no statistical difference between reported weekly deaths and the yearly average, we can stick a fork in this nonsense of a virus.
