Virginia Governor Issues Statewide Stay Home Order Until June 10th…

An executive order [Full pdf Here] from Virginia Governor Ralph Northam requires all residents of Virginia to remain in lock-down until June 10, 2020.  Virginia is essentially shut down for three months…. But don’t forget to pay your taxes comrades.

RICHMOND—Governor Ralph Northam today issued a statewide Stay at Home order to protect the health and safety of Virginians and mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. The executive order takes effect immediately and will remain in place until June 10, 2020, unless amended or rescinded by a further executive order.

The order directs all Virginians to stay home except in extremely limited circumstances. Individuals may leave their residence for allowable travel, including to seek medical attention, work, care for family or household members, obtain goods and services like groceries, prescriptions, and others as outlined in Executive Order Fifty-Three, and engage in outdoor activity with strict social distancing requirements.

The executive order also directs all Virginia institutions of higher education to stop in-person classes and instruction. Private campgrounds must close for short-term stays, and beaches will be closed statewide except for fishing and exercise. (read more)

House arrest in Pennsylvania is creeping along a few counties at a time. Today our county was added to the list with three or four others. It’s called a “Stay At Home” Order, in effect until April 30, unless and until Gov. Wolf sheds his sheep’s clothing and extends it for as long as he thinks he can get away with it.

These governors are all trying to out-do each other in their blatant usurpation of our Constitutional Rights.

“Creeping” is the correct verb to employ. The state governors are using the virus “social distancing” recommendations as their cover to do what they’ve wanted to do for the last decade.

That takes a discrete software action though and if you’re in that kind of target group your problems go well beyond even removing your battery.

Remember how the all whining and moaning and griping when they were shut down? DC kept all WWII veterans from their Monument and the Michelle wouldn’t let any Visitors into her WH for years. They hung a banner over MT. Rushmore and closed it completely. No one could even stop along the highway because of the barriers. Spite House

Another question to those state and local officials trying to deflect their culpability in the lack of early coronavirus response, blaming Washington (Trump) for not telling them: weren’t you watching the news in mid-January when the Chinese government said it was going to build a 1000-bed hospital in just 10 days due to the severity of the infection?

Government is going to collect much less tax revenue especially from sales. Think they’ll delay property taxes? Politicians will all get paid, there are technically never any layoffs. I worked for a large county assessor in MN and in 13 years, no layoffs, 1 fired, 1 negotiated quit. But if businesses are shut down and people are staying home there should be less demand for government service like restaurant inspections, and road workers from less driving and potholes.
Think the lack of revenue will get them to open things back up a little? There should be no reason a business can’t operate if they clean and sanitize and maintain Anti-social distance between employees and customers.

Wise reply but we’re seeing that decision-making on public health isn’t being left to the local officials in the best position to make them. Before the polio vaccine was discovered, quarantine decisions were made county-by-county by local govt based on the number of infections.

A lot of people want to take the ‘maximalist’ approach to save every life, but restricting freedom to this extent is a remedy worse than the disease.

Life itself has risks but it must be enjoyed to be worth living and people have the right to put food on their table.

As I see it, PDJT has made two mistakes so far in dealing with, and I’m coining the term, shamdemic. First was declaring a national emergency. This signaled to demonrat/rino Governors that the Federal piggy bank was wide open and would replace (and then some) the state revenues that they would lose during their lockdowns.

Second was yesterdays April 30 announcement. As Dennis Prager said today, there was no reason to push this health advisory, or whatever you want to call it, out for another month. This just stepped on hands of those hanging onto the railing trying to hold on for a couple of weeks. He should have just said we’ll take things day by day and see what the numbers (real numbers) tell us.

Still time to right this ship, but people like Northam are intent on sinking that ship due to their TDS affliction.

I’d really like to see some group like Judicial Watch seek to obtain emails sent between top state and federal democrats. You damn well know they’re coordinating these lockdown edicts. Bill Maher told us exactly what the dimms had in mind when he said they needed a recession to get rid of PDJT. Guess we should’ve believed him.

What I fear isn’t that we’re seeing this being done because of some news about the virus that makes it worse than we thought, but that this is being done by the gov’t “for our own good.”
i.e. Americans can no longer be allowed/trusted to make their own decisions–even bad ones. Me, I’m old and have pre-existing conditions so I’m self-quarantined. But why shouldn’t some other oldie be free to go out, even if it kills him?

I know SD has already said it but are we a free country or not? Do we want a gov’t telling us we must do things for our own good? Of course, the answer is sometimes. But this is going to far for free people. People should be free enough to live with the consequences of their actions.

I’ve often joked that the primary duty of a VA governor is to appear at disaster sites looking concerned, so it doesn’t make much difference who’s elected. I eat those words now when we have a governor exercising powers that are reserved for extremely serious disease epidemics or wartime. It’s an astonishing precedent in my mind. Virginians need to think twice before again electing guys like McAulliff, who no experience at anything except political dirty tricks,, and now Northam, a technocrat who seems ignorant of Virginia’s history and deep traditions of liberty as the birthplace of Jefferson, Madison, Mason, Henry, et al.

I want to thank the posters in this thread for demonstrating that some of us, as least here at the “Last Refuge,” still value a free society and individual liberty. I was beginning to despair that not even most people here — judging by recent threads — even remotely questioned the wisdom of overriding all our constitutional traditions and converting us into a totalitarian police state because “experts” demand that.
