Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

How Did God Speak to Moses?

    By Pastor Ricky Kurth

“If no one can see God’s face and live (Ex. 33:20), how did He speak to Moses ‘face to face’ (Ex. 33:11)?”

The phrase “face to face” can be taken literally (2 John 1:12), but it can also be taken in a figurative sense. For instance, God is said to have spoken “face to face” with the people of Israel when He gave them the law (Deut. 5:4), but they didn’t see His face (Deut. 4:12). So we must conclude that the phrase “face to face” there is a figure of speech.

What does it mean? Well, compare how God defines speaking face to face to Moses:

“If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make Myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. My servant Moses is not so… With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold” (Num. 12:6-8).

In speaking to Moses, God spoke apparently (clearly), and not in visions and dreams and dark speeches. That’s the figurative meaning of “face to face.”

This understanding is the only answer to our Pentecostal friends who say that tongues will not “cease” (1 Cor. 13:8) until we get to Heaven. They insist that “that which is perfect” (1 Cor. 13:10) is Heaven since that’s when we’ll see the Lord “face to face” (v. 12). What Paul was actually saying is that once the Bible is perfect or complete, the will of God can be understood as clearly as if we were in His presence!

Exodus 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Exodus 33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

2 John 1:12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

Deuteronomy 5:4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

Deuteronomy 4:12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

Numbers 12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

1 Corinthians 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Though it’s not humanly possible to describe just how good things will be for believers once we enter heaven, I just hope more people realize that there are blessings available right here and now that can boggle the imagination in magnitude. Oh, the ‘elite’ are doing everything possible to divert your attention. But we know God wins. Every time.
Christ set us free, the ungodly want to keep us bound, restrained, and frightened. Too bad for them. It’s time to reclaim our status as free men(and women). Freedom rules.

When I first heard believers speaking in tongues it scared me. When that fear was replaced with knowledge I embraced it.
Fear is the guard that is at every junction of faith. The kingdom of God is taken, just as Joshua did the promised land. Many died in the wilderness expecting God to change.

Recorded about the same time, although probably not in sequence, as his Beatles CD, Manual Barrueco explores a different soundscape with “Sometime Ago”. You’ll find a lyrical guitar transcription of Keith Jarrett”s famous “Kolin Concert”. But tucked away in other parts of the CD is an exquisite rendering of Paul Simon’s “Old Friends” which we can listen to now.

“Old Friends” isn’t the bravura crowd pleaser that the Kolin Concert selection is (typically he gets a standing ovation when he performs this) but it remains my favorite selection. Paul Simon’s melody is quietly subtle, almost reticent. Manuel captures the song’s essence perfectly, I think.

The volume on this recording is a bit low so you might need to turn your volume up.

As one reaches a point in the life cycle, the lyrics to this subtle musical tune plays out in real time. Connection to friends from some time ago and reinvigorating the bond to the current day is a gift. Transcendence over time is a gift worth the labor to refresh the circumstances.

Beautiful-I love Paul Simon’s stuff–I remember getting a songwriter friend to transcribe “Still Crazy After All These Years”-it had the most bizarre chords. Very high level of musical sophistication.

And “The Koln Concert” is sublime.

“From whence then hast Thou that living water?” John iv. 11

“The well is deep” – and a great deal deeper than the Samaritan woman knew! Think of the depths of human nature, of human life, think of the depths of the “wells” in you. Have you been impoverishing the ministry of Jesus so that He cannot do anything? Suppose there is a well of fathomless trouble inside your heart, and Jesus comes and says – “Let not your heart be troubled”; and you shrug your shoulders and say, “But, Lord, the well is deep; You cannot draw up quietness and comfort out of it.” No, He will bring them down from above. Jesus does not bring anything up from the wells of human nature. We limit the Holy One of Israel by remembering what we have allowed Him to do for us in the past, and by saying, “Of course I cannot expect God to do this thing.” The thing that taxes almightiness is the very thing which we as disciples of Jesus ought to believe He will do. We impoverish His ministry the moment we forget He is Almighty; the impoverishment is in us, not in Him. We will come to Jesus as Comforter or as Sympathizer, but we will not come to Him as Almighty.

The reason some of us are such poor specimens of Christianity is because we have no Almighty Christ. We have Christian attributes and experiences, but there is no abandonment to Jesus Christ. When we get into difficult circumstances, we impoverish His ministry by saying – “Of course He cannot do anything,” and we struggle down to the deeps and try to get the water for ourselves. Beware of the satisfaction of sinking back and saying – “It can’t be done”; you know it can be done if you look to Jesus. The well of your incompleteness is deep, but make the effort and look away to Him.

Illness forces the Pope to cancel an event in Rome a day after showing solidarity with coronavirus sufferers and shaking hands with congregation at weekly audience

Pope Francis has been forced to cancel a planned Mass in Rome with other clergy after suffering a ‘slight illness’.

The Vatican said the 83-year-old pontiff had a ‘slight indisposition’ that meant he did not attend an event at the St John Lateran basilica in Rome on Thursday morning.

We’re continuing to listen to the audio book “A Journal of the Plague Year” by Daniel Defoe (link below).

Night before last, it was mentioned that those Londoners who laid in ample provision for their households and then CLOSED THE DOORS for the duration of the plague had no illness, and once the disease had passed, these people emerged in healthy states. Clearly, this group of Londoners understood QUARANTINE.

Last night, the section we listened to again mentioned those Londoners who effectively ‘self quarantined,’ but also expounded upon the fact that many of the WEALTHY Londoners thought they could just *send the servants out* and remain protected because they themselves did not leave their homes. This segment of Londoners did NOT understand QUARANTINE. The servants brought the disease into these homes, and so this batch of Londoners died.

This morning over coffee, hubby and I talked about the parallels to people of today with the covid19 virus. After the utter fiasco that has occurred at that ‘air force base’ in CA (multiple BREAKS OF QUARANTINE, so much so that as of yesterday, untraceable community spread is now happening there), it’s clear that some of our ‘leaders’ are like that second batch of Londoners: CLUELESS when it comes to QUARANTINE. This would include some of the wealthy folks, who believe they’ll be safe by isolating *themselves* – while putting their ‘personal assistants’ (including private pilots, cleaning staffs for various households, chefs, etc etc etc) at risk.

It seems to me that the much ridiculed ‘prepper’ types will be the most likely to endure this unscathed, able to open their homes once this has passed and emerge healthy.

Link to a reading of “A Journal of the Plague Year” by Daniel Defoe, via LibriVox. Scroll down a bit, you’ll see the various ‘sections,’ click on the arrow to listen to the segment of choice.

    To Ponder

Let me ponder on the Lord Jesus as the father who wept in the wilderness for his children, calling to them and gathering them together:

    1. The Children of Israel.
    2. The children of all the peoples on the earth.
    3. The children of all the ages, from the creation to the end of the world.
