Libertarian IS a “3rd” view, definetly.
Hence you can have ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’ libertarians.

They take a Constitutional view; maximum personal liberty, MINIMAL government imposition of rules restricting personal liberty.

Basically, my liberties end at your face; I can do what I want, as long as my enjoyment of my liberty, doesn’t restrict yours; can’t punch you in the face.

So, Government has no authority to restrict what substances I can injest, or what I can do with someone else, with exchange of money (prostitution).

Its a ‘principled’ overarching approach to policy. What I mean is, POLitics is all about detirmining POLicy, something people forget.

When Librrtarians look at POLicy questions, they go immediately to there fundamental PRINCIPLE; Is the government attempting to restrict the liberties of citisens, who in excercising those liberties, are NOT directly inhibiting the liberties of others?

If the answer is YES, they oppose it.
So, since someone smoking dope (or shooting heroin) in their house isn’t ‘hurting’ anyone else, they oppose restricting it.

          At least thats my understanding,…

      • Don’t be so fast to judge. It’s like judging Republicans by Bush or Romney or McCain. If you used these as yardstick, I certainly would not be Republican. Endless wars, globalism, corruption, etc.

The fundamental ideas of libertarians are more freedom and less government. More liberty. Our rights come from our creator, not from government. This is generally very good.

But when you let it dominate all your thinking and try to be “purist” it stops being that great. Freedom is good, but walls make good neighbors. Peace is good, but you should have peace through strength so the other side thinks twice before attacking. Some rules and laws, such as those prohibiting truly dangerous substances, are good and we should have them.

So yes, there are many ideas that are great with libertarians, smaller government is one I support 1,000%, but some, which are loony, such as not supporting a wall.

          • I agree 100% that legalization of pot is BS and those that support it are wrong. I understand the purist principle, but it doesn’t work.

Having said this, I was an active supporter of Ron Paul and by far most of the supporters I interacted with were motivated by stopping the endless foreign wars and reducing the size of Federal Government, endless debt and overspending.

By the way, the best way to handle government corruption is not to go after corruption, even though that helps, but reduce the amount that can be corrupted. If you reduce the size of government by 90%, you just eliminated 90% of the possibility of corruption.

And other than Ron and Rand Paul, most Republicans never actually vote for downsizing government. We need more Republicans in Congress that actually want to reduce the size of government.

Specific libertarian policies all flow from that.

i.e., drug use is OK and government intervention to halt it is bad, because they have no concept of people as being made for a purpose in the (spiritual) image of God.

And, if you could know that everyone who is, as they say, “exercising their liberties” would do so responsibly, their notions might well lead to less government. The trouble is, there are an awful lot of irresponsible people out there. There’s a reason why companies at roadside construction sites hang their air compressors and other expensive equipment in the air by a crane each night.

San Francisco Chronicle reported that in the first week of February 6700 travelers from China flew into SFO and were advised to “self-quarantine” themselves. Most of these entering were Chinese citizens escaping China, college students or faculty members heading back to universities in California after the Chinese New Year Holiday! I can’t see these folks quarantining themselves, it would be like herding cats.
I can’t understand why we have these many non-citizen Chinese attending California State Universities! 40% of UCBerkeley are Chinese. I would guess there have been Chinese Payoffs to Big Sis Napolitano over the years.

so 6700 in California, and 212 in Ohio so there is at least 6912 that should be tested.
CDC list 445 test so far?

So less than 7% tested (445/6912 x 100) and that is a conservative number since that is only against the Ohio and California self quarantined individuals.

I don’t know the self quarantine numbers across the country, but the CDC number would indicate it would have to be less than 7% of those have been tested.

My understanding of self quarantine is that you simply take your temperature and call/text/email once a day to the local state health department.

Does any one know the procedures for self quarantine, is it even the same across the states?

And no one is testing here in San Antonio.
They are only testing the ones here from the ship. The positive cases are being taken to our local hospitals. (6) I think. The city is not too happy. Claim they were given no choice. Thought they would all be contained at military base.

Yeah having them in isolated locations away from major population centers would seem like a reasonable thing to do. I was surprised they didn’t take them from Japan to an isolated island in the Pacific for quarantine instead of taking some straight to the heartland in Omaha NE. Or a remote base in AZ or NV, as UV is supposedly good at killing viruses on surfaces.

Being in the same dwelling as your family would seem to be putting them and anyone they may come into contact at risk based on the two properties of this being highly contagious and extremely long incubation periods of being able to spread it but not feeling sick.

However, I don’t know the laws on what is actually legal to impose on citizens in situations like this. It is one of those slippery slope questions.

Found an older article from Feb19th that indicated the following self quarantine numbers.
              New York = 575
California = 5400 (another article from yesterday indicated 6700)
              Washington State = 745
              Georgia = about 200
              Michigan = 300+
              Virginia = 138
              Iowa = 27
              North Dakota = 10
              Kentucky = 71 from a different Feb.13th article

As of yesterday CDC indicated 445 test have been performed.
445/8766 x 100 = 5% of those possibly exposed could have even been tested at this point, based on 9/50 states reported self quarantined individuals from above.

I suspect if the testing rate picks up we might see numbers raise quickly like in Italy.
              60/445 = 13.5%
              13.5% x 8766 = 1183

Hope fully the voluntary self quarantine will work and even if those people got tested it would come back negative. It just seems like there are to many unknowns to have a clear picture of this at them moment. Be prepared but also don’t panic.

The 445 number came from the CDC site as of a few minutes ago, which has the following note* This table represents cases detected and tested in the United States through U.S. public health surveillance systems since January 21, 2020. It does not include people who returned to the U.S. via State Department-chartered flights.
† Numbers closed out at 4 p.m. the day before reporting.

The 3625 number came from Azar, speaking before the House Ways and Means Committee, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had tested 3,625 specimens for the fast-moving virus as of this morning.

He also said at least 40 labs currently have test kits that were previously manufactured by the CDC that were modified to test for coronavirus.

He said a newly manufactured CDC test can be sent to 93 public health labs as soon as Monday, and a privately manufactured test based on the new CDC test could be sent to those same labs as early as tomorrow, pending FDA clearance.

Most fur-bearing animals we think of are members of the weasel family: e.g. mink, sable, otter and ermine. Foxes and coyotes, members of the dog family, and fur seals have also been used to make very warm coats and ruffs. But a few rodents are/were also important to the fur trade: beaver, principally, but also nutria and chinchilla.

Nutria were imported from South America and released here a hundred years ago to propagate and be harvested for the fur industry. My mom had a nutria jacket. It was plush and soft, an affordable alternative to mink.

It was only because the far-left animal rights activists crippled the fur industry, nowhere more so than in California, that nutria became an undesired pest. Restore trapping and shooting nutria for fur sales, and voila! nutria will again become a valuable resource to farmers.

The Democraps were hugely successful in their destruction of the George Bush presidency by lying about the lack of effort to prevent and recover from that hurricane. It was all a ruse, but they won a huge victory in the 2006 mid-terms with it.

I hold the belief that the real battle is between the collective Globalist political philosophies and the Nationalist political philosophies. I think we need to focus more on what makes a country into a country and what will make Globalist government a replacement for individual Nations. The differences are, by necessity, harrowing.

    Today’s Take:

This virus scare has clearly been fully politically weaponized into a last-ditch effort to stop PDJT before his re-election. Everything attempted to date has only made him stronger politically. They are running out of options and weapons.

This was an engineered pathogen — and an engineered crisis. It was set loose at a location where it would cause maximum ECONOMIC harm. A coordinated panic campaign was carefully prepared to stand on its shoulders to magnify the ECONOMIC narratives and consequences.

Daily fake gloom stories are now being strategically placed and seeded to spur a continued DJIA selloff, and provoke a panicked market collapse if possible. It is a global effort. Because we are dealing with desperate and cornered globalists. If PDJT is re-elected, their world will be forever altered.

The other day, a rogue DS relative intentionally seeded the ‘‘inevitable’ false narrative. And the entire corporate media is now ignoring even contrary CDC statements in a full orgy of non-stop fear mongering upon it. The threat of mass pandemic upon the public is blaring from every propaganda box. They want an emotional and hysterical public that is too distracted to understand what markets and economic elements are being manipulated.

Yes, even the controlled opposition foghorns like Fox are in on it, if only for the ratings. Place the panic over RISKS into perspective. Risks are unactualized events. They are projections and opinions about the future.

But this hysterical propaganda is not primarily intended to panic us. It is intended to panic the markets. Again, it is an ECONOMIC campaign, for an ECONOMIC crisis.

Equity markets are also driven by unactualized future events. They are projections and opinions of future economic performance.

That is their last battlefield, for reasons described below.

Today’s poison seed is a rogue GS report predicting 0% growth this year. Totally unfounded and unsupported. But it will spook an already jittery market. And it has.

More negative seeding stories and reports will follow. All will be based on projections of FUTURE events.

Because it is easiest to lie about the future. All of these stories, all of these risks, all of these projections, involve lies about the future. Strategically directed against a target that operates upon and is susceptible to narratives about the future. Global equities markets. The DJIA, et als.

The PRESENT reality could not be more dissimilar. While less well managed nations are suffering from this engineered outbreak, US domestic coronavirus patient count remains locked at 15, heading now into week three. The US is doing wonderfully, and is poised for a fantastic 2020 economic performance. Do not lose sight of that economic reality. In the end, that hard economic reality will overwhelm all manufactured contrary narratives and fictions projecting otherwise.

Main Street is being de-coupled from Wall Street. The global multinationals’ ability to influence the activity of the former with these strategies is eroding rapidly. They are less able to orchestrate Main Street narratives. Main Street will continue to thrive. Pay attention to future jobs reports. Those track Main Street.

But they can still orchestrate Wall Street — market based — narratives. So they will manipulate the DJIA to try and negatively impact the economy. All upon fake projections of risks relying on future events they can lie about.

Any declines they can precipitate are but further ammunition to continue the narrative. Any negative results they can conjure will be posited as proof of future doom.

It is all so glaringly obvious. The Recession of 2019 failed. So, now, more of the same for 2020. But with an added lever this time. A fake crisis to manipulate the markets and sectors which they can still influence.

It will fail. The greed of investors will be their downfall, as the buying opportunities become too strong to resist, and they break ranks. The rebound will be just as violent. Be prepared.

Remember, PDJT is an existential threat to their global game involving trillions. If killing millions or causing a global economic collapse keeps them in power, they will try do so.

Stand strong. They are weakening by the day. And running out of weapons. We are winning.

And those are today’s thoughts about what is happening.

I fail to see much value in widespread testing, given the uncertainty in the tests, the lack of vaccine, unknown incubation time, and asymptomatic carriers. A little like saying everyone needs to be tested for cancer this week.

Too much clear evidence demonstrating Barr is Deep State Cover-up. I’m sure PT knew it when he nominated Barr, but Cocaine Mitch had PT by the kahunas.

Frankly, R’s HAVE TO WIN THE HOUSE to possibly free up PT from Cocaine Mitch, unless Kentucky would like to help. PT will never be free from Impeachment without an R House, and even then it’s not guaranteed due to the depths of the Swamp.

The fact that Barr would let Van Grack near any position, much less Director of FARA, says all I need to know.

I noted PT hasn’t stopped tweeting about Judges and the crooked IC. Looks like he’s had enough of Barr, as well.

Not only stupid for thinking that dust masks are equivalent to medical but stupid in that masks are meant to prevent spread, not prevent catching a disease. (per the CDC and Johns Hopkins)

You can see the giddy attitude of media and the left in that they think this is finally the end of Trump and not caring one wit about America. They specifically said it was a protective measure, along with hygiene.

TDS has infected tens of millions of otherwise sane and healthy Americans, who are coming to realize that all alternatives are seriously flawed. But, in a number of recent conversations with several of them discussing the sad state of the Dem Party, in which I kept my views private, they did not appear capable of bursting their Never Trump bonds to consider voting to re-elect the President.

The target group here are educated women middle age and up, who, oblivious to HRC’s corruption, wept with their daughters and sisters when the “glass ceiling” appeared to them to block her rise, with the full brunt of President Trump’s hardball personal attacks against HRC portrayed and seen as Everyman bullying Everywoman. And some of their husbands.

An antidote would be a collection of highly intelligent and articulate mature women of all races sharing their reasons for supporting the re-election, interspersed with positive interactions between President Trump and such women, including Melania and Ivanka. Stressing the positive, pro American, pro growth, limited government, Patriotic values that the President stands for, but which the TDS-Media work so hard to hide. https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2019-04-08/100-000-americans-die-from-air-pollution-study-finds

That means roughly 2,000 people a year die in your state from air pollution, or 5 a day.

So 5 people today dropped DEAD in your state, and every state around the country, because of air pollution.

The coronavirus has infected 33 Americans (not counting Japanese boat people) in the last two weeks, none have died.

Relying on US News for accurate scientific reporting is about as good as relying on the democrats for performance of the Trump administration, I do see your sarc implications in the reference. I have become skeptical of most reported “scientific facts” even in journals. I want to see the data, where it came from, who funded it, and what are the error bars. I doubt almost all environmental data. For the flu death issues I am suspicious of the CDC reports. I’m referencing a “Request for Correction (RFC)” that outlines some of the concerns for their reporting. The CDC lumps death associated with the flu with flu deaths. Many of the deaths are from secondary effects such as bacterial pneumonia which is not viral. Here is a quote from the RFC:

“The CDC website states what has become commonly accepted and widely reported in the lay and scientific press: annually “about 36 000 [Americans] die from flu” (www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease.htm) and “influenza/pneumonia” is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States (www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/lcod.htm). But why are flu and pneumonia bundled together? Is the relationship so strong or unique to warrant characterizing them as a single cause of death? David Rosenthal, director of Harvard University Health Services, said, “People don’t necessarily die, per se, of the [flu] virus—the viraemia. What they die of is a secondary pneumonia. So many of these pneumonias are not viral pneumonias but secondary [pneumonias].” But Dr Rosenthal agreed that the flu/pneumonia relationship was not unique. For instance, a recent study (JAMA 2004;292: 1955-60[Abstract/Free Full Text]) found that stomach acid suppressing drugs are associated with a higher risk of community acquired pneumonia, but such drugs and pneumonia are not compiled as a single statistic. CDC states that the historic 1968-9 “Hong Kong flu” pandemic killed 34 000 Americans. At the same time, CDC claims 36 000 Americans annually die from flu. ”

The key is that the death rates used by the CDC is derived from Models and not actual body count. Where body counts are used there are few direct lab tested links to the cause of death. I understand that the CDC is trying to understand mortality and correlation to disease but the direct mortality statistics reported for flu is questionable. The mortality of the 1918 Spanish flu was very much related to flu virus effects. Apparently not so much in today’s flu mortality rates.

Mortality statistics from pollution is questionable since there is a very strong bias injected sue to the political aspect of the research, analysis, and its funding.

      https://aspe.hhs.gov/cdc-%E2%80%94-influenza-deaths-request-correction-rfc

As to the CoVID-19 outbreak, if the outbreak was anything like “normal” flu, I doubt very much it the Chinese would shut down their economy. Whatever the ultimate data shows, there is something much different with this CoVID-19 outbreak which needs to be considered before it is dismissed. Just my thoughts.

I thank God for POTUS. He too such action early. He is always ahead of the curve. Even his enemies must be taking notice.

We should cancel all flights from South Korea immediately. The president said yesterday that “we’re testing them” (when they disembark). Given the purported incubation period, that “testing” is almost worthless. Anything that can be done to slow it should be. Ending all international travel would be a good idea. Even domestic flights should probably be curtailed. If Remdesivir is the best treatment, we should allocate billions to ramp up production and the patent holder (Gilead) should be made whole (and then some) if outsourcing its production leaves them vulnerable to intellectual property theft. Now is not the time to be pinching pennies.

Bad news. That sh*th*le state!! CA should be encased with a wall for the protection of the rest of the 49 states. No wonder Piglosi/Schumer want 8.5bn–so it can be spent in that sh*thole for the outbreak they knew was pending.

I feel sorry for the people living on the streets.

The least of the least will bear the brunt of this CA socialists state that can’t do a damn thing right. We taxpayers will have to again try and fix the mess they make and suffer the consequences for their illgotten ways. It isn’t a coincidence that 33 cases are confirmed in CA today and not another state.

Every decent person should leave CA.

He’s worthless. Did nothing to prepare. Now it’s gong to spread like the wildfires Gov Newsom did nothing to prepare for either.

California — do something! Recall this govenor! Oh. that’s right. Isn’t he Piglosi’s son-in-law or some relative like that?

      All in the family.

Mainecoon when I click your link I get really tiny print of code???

I get that CA claims to be monitoring 8,400. 6,700 of them are Chinese students and professors that just returned is my understanding.

What I am most curious about are the 33 that tested positive and the 5 that moved out of state. The 33 were tested by whom? How did 5 sick people up and leave and where did they go?

Nevermind finally figured it out 5 sick people WERE moved out of state, when you go to link. They were moved to specialized hospitals I presume.

Although the tweeter is in China (I think) and is vetted, the data he’s retweeting is new information and will need further confirmation.

I wouldn’t doubt that it is true though…..
