Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh Sentenced to Three Years in Federal Prison for Corruption and Fraud…

Political leaders, specifically mayors in Baltimore Maryland, are predisposed toward corrupt behavior.  Remember Sheila Dixon in ’08, or Stephanie Rawlings Blake in ’15… It’s a perpetual cycle. I digress…

Into the corrupt landscape comes Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, who was arrested in 2019 for taking bribes and payoffs through a pay-to-play bribery scandal for books she “authored” called “Healthy Holly”.   Want a city contract?…. buy her books, easy peasy.

BALTIMORE – Former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, who held elected offices in Baltimore for two decades and was elevated by voters to lead the city following the upheaval of 2015, was sentenced to three years in federal prison Thursday for a fraud scheme involving a children’s book series.

Pugh, 69, asked U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow for mercy and apologized in court “to anyone I have offended or hurt through my actions.”

[…] In handing down the prison sentence, which was to be followed by three years of probation, Chasanow called Pugh’s crime “astounding.”

“I have yet frankly to hear any explanation that makes sense,” the judge said. “This was not a tiny mistake, lapse of judgment. This became a very large fraud. The nature and circumstances of this offense clearly I think are extremely, extremely serious.” (read more)

“The word on the street was that he could quit the race or face charges – so he kept his City and dropped the State.”

Another thing that torpedoed his political climb was his son Roosie (Roosevelt) being arrested for keeping two little girls in an apartment for sexual purposes. He beat the charges, and a subsequent perjury charge, but there was evidence of jury tampering.

Baltimore,Dec.11(UP)- A Baltimore city grand jury recommended today that Franklin D. Roosevelt D’Alesandro, son of Baltimore’s Mayor, be prosecuted for lying during his recent rape trial.

The grand jury also recommended that an indictment be drawn against James Pollack, long-time Democratic political leader, for trying to obstruct justice during the trial in which the youth won acquittal. The grand jury made its recommendations in which presentments, which in this state precede the issuance of indictments. D’Alesandro, 20-year-old son of Mayor Thomas D’Alesandro, was charged, with more than a dozen other youths, of moral charges in two girls, ages 11 and 13.

              • The sad thing is, when I was young, I thought FDR was a HERO for digging America out from the Great Depression. Only (after learning a thing or two) did I realize that his programs actually PROLONGED it. It was the wartime economy that brought about America’s recovery.

And now I have to wonder… would FDR have made the same decision Truman did, regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Long after Nancy’s dad was gone, FDR was still on the city
payroll. Got married, laid low, retired with a city pension. Died
in 2007 of cancer. Worked in the city land records department
              (nudge, nudge).

Wonder if Nancy PLUMB FORGOT to go to his funeral?
Like her other brother, the former Baltimore Mayor who died
a few months back. Nancy had more important things to do.

$600,000 in her pocket, 3 year sentence. Blago $0 in his pocket $0 to his campaign fund, 14 years.

The DOJ lawyer in his closing argument said : “If a traffic cop asks you for money and you don’t give it, he still committed a crime”. Agreed. But 14 years, did 8, is alot of time for an attempted Pay to Play, which local/state Pol’s do 365, somewhere in the US at this very moment.

Dopey Blago didn’t know the way.

I’m not pro-Blago, never was even 15 years ago. I am pro American common sense in sentencing penitentiary time.

Blago’s real crime was embarrassing the Chicago machine. It wasn’t being corrupt so much as being incredibly stupid about it and getting caught.

      • Les D says:

Really stupid. Ain’t the way it’s done everyday legally everywhere, ethically not my issue.
But it wasn’t the Chicago Machine turning on Blago that got him, he and they had parted ways quite some time before, including, and publicly, with his father in law who made him and was big in the Machine. Blago was also at all out war with both branches of the Dem legislature, which is run by the Chicago machine.

It was a Republican prosecution, Mueller’s FBI in fact, and the prosecutor, Peter Fitzgerald (you NY folk should remember His Holiness) is the Godfather to one of Comey’s kids. The heavy sentence came from a Repub Judge who came up thru the state Repub machine which ran anything state under the longest serving Gov Thompson, 15 years. Blago’s judge had all kinds of political positions in those 4 terms including head of the State Police.

The stiff sentence was really pay back for a Dem Fed judge sentencing the successor Republican Governor, Ryan, to 6 years a few years earlier. Blago’s judge said Blago “didn’t learn” from that Gov’s sentence, so this 14 will give him/others the message, hahaha. It was petty pay back, but way, way over done. Alot of people don’t remember Blago was tried twice, hung on all counts the 1st trial EXCEPT lying to the FBI. Changed lawyers, a mistake, and went down.

Anyone who talks to the FBI unless very, very briefly with a tape running, especially when you have unclean hands like Rod–unlike Flynn– isn’t thinking clearly, unless you’re a victim of a crime. What was in the news now Nat’l Security Advisor KT McFarland thinking–hours with them, sensed it stunk, before she got help? I guess she never imagined the FBI is what it has been for quite awhile.

The justice system is working fine, we even convict Democrats.” The game of “HIde the Coup D’Etat”…until you all get used to just commenting about lesser things, such as this corruption case. It will take a mass civil disobedience — million person marches on Washington, whatever — to make this horse go where we want it to go. There are many book/Netflix deals that are as equally corrupt as Mayor Pugh’s. She just happened to get caught. The entire money-laundering operation needs a hard look by the Feds, but counting on them to uproot corruption seems to be a pipe dream. Thankfully people are waking up to a practice that in the past was never scrutinized. Explains how so many people of modest means end up multi-millionaires.

She’s nearly seventy, so those three years mean more than if she were younger. Age may have softened the sentence, which should have been doubled at least, though it was the opposite with Stone.

These politicized book deals are a joke. Book stores reduce the prices within weeks and they all end up in the discount bin. And eventually in thrift stores because the suckers who bought them realize they have no intrinsic value.

    A little personal confession.

When I’m in a bookstore and I see these leftist books or magazines I wait for a moment and discretely turn them upside down. I usually keep them in my hand, pretending to read, but when no one is around I quickly put them back upside down. And if there is a conservative authored book I move it to a more prominent spot on the shelf. Scuttle symbolic protest.
