Unfortunately, McC caved to RINO pressure by allowing the charade to go one more day (3 days now) for opening arguments. Worse than that , they are allowing the House record to be entered in full. This sucks given that the entire record is all hearsay, supporting the fake narrative of the left. This was something he shoulda held firm to…now we just elongated the trial by at least a few days.

He either has 51 votes or he doesn’t….we don’t know how much pressure he is putting on Collins and Murkowski…Romney is hopeless. As an aside, screwing around with the Alabama Senate election was a huge mistake, one more PDJT reliable vote could make a huge difference in how this sh*t show plays out.

I admit I would have these jokers have to sit at their desks 12 hours a day, every day they are in session. But they set the rules…

        Excellent point about Alabama SHV.

When people are counting votes, don’t forget there are 4 republican senators that are retiring. Nobody ever mentions them, always Collins, Murkowski, Romney and sometimes Gardner. McConnell has other cats to herd too like never-trump Sasse and Lee or the unpredictable Rand Paul.

I don’t know that any of the others are threatening to vote with the D’s, I seriously doubt Rand Paul is, but it’s not always Collins, Murkowski or Romney. In this case Collins sort of outed herself, but clearly she’s not the only one.

I’m not buying the Collins excuse. She may be in a close election, but hell, Clinton beat Trump in Maine in 2016 by only 2.7 points (47.9 to 45.2).

If Collins doesn’t know that standing by POTUS now would guarantee her a Trump rally or two in her state on her behalf, then she’s lost her mind.

Something else is up with her.

Collins is exactly wrong with politicians. Her crap allows her to play both sides against the middle all in the name of being reelected rather than carrying out her faithful duty. She, Murkowski, Mittens, McStain, and the like are always too happy to be used as useful idiots by Democrats. Collins has no standards or principles unless they result in acquiring votes.

As disappointing as she and the other RINOs are, they give the GOP the majority and Mitch as majority leader, the control of the Senate agenda. They also ensure that the judicial confirmation train keeps rolling along. Mitch knows this and has to deal with it.

I agree but come to a different conclusion. Collins has a better chance of retaining her seat WITH the President at her side rather than without him. He’s even more popular in that state now that he was in 2016, and then he got 45 percent of the vote.

This is what it is all about: put pressure on some of the vulnerable republicans. It will be a lose lose situation for them: if they cave, the base will despise them for caving and hurt them at the ballot box. If they stand strong behind Trump, the left will try to use that to drum up their base. McConnell has to navigate through this. I still think that this stupidity will ultimately backfire. I hope.

As has been said before, the Dems know they cannot remove President Trump. The have already hun the Impeached tag on him. Unfortunately for the Dems, President Trump will wear it like a badge of honor. They have forever changed the view of impeachment. Now it is strictly a partisan maneuver, designed to embarrass the opposition party. The embarrassment now lies with the House Democrazies,
Can they sully the names of the Republicans in swing states? Why do you think deBlubbero has been deporting the homeless to swing states? Bet the farm half are already registered to vote in these states. That would completely fit the Democrazy Lawfare playbook. That’s why I go ballistic when these idiots charge the President and other Republicans with “cheating”. It’s called bait and switch. They throw the bait (like sending homeless to other states but providing them with financial incentive—aka bribery) and then switch everything to turn the tables and accuse Republicans of what they have been doing!

Schiff talks to the Senate like a trial lawyer might talk to an average big city jury with varying levels of education and little or no knowledge of the law. Downish.

Sekelow and Cippolone knew that the senators knew the basics of the impeachment case from the news saturation, and that many of the senators are lawyers; those without legal training have still been in the Senate long enough to know preliminary matter on rules do not really involve the factual record.

Schiff reminds me of Ricky Ricardo “splainin'” things to dimwitted Lucy.

Sekelow is an experienced appellate litigator who presented it today more like an appellate lawyer presenting legal arguments to a panel of judges whom he considered his intellectual equals.

There is certainly an element of this that wants to just go through the motions and quickly dismiss and/or acquit. Whether covering up their own complicity in Ukraine corruption, the need to get back to regular business, the need to create a certain record, or the requirement to play the political game, a speedy trial (a few days) is possibly a favored outcome.

For me, I prefer an acquittal. I also prefer the ability for President Trump to finally be able to defend himself for the first time. If that turns the tables on the corrupt Democrat party, then that works for me as well.
