I use your “likes” on the prayer post to get a sense of the level of activity on the Pres. Politics thread on a particular day. As you said, many can’t “like” so the next day I’ll compare the number of total comments on the thread to your likes to get a sense of overall exposure on a thread. I know many more thousands view it and don’t/can’t comment or “like”. It also sometimes helps me decide which days to post things though I’m still trying to work that out.

So between the time you clicked on this thread, and the time you hovered over the likes, six more people had liked it. 😄

I don’t even have a WP account. Most others show up correctly, definitely some sort of bug or just lag with the way/timing it re-renders pages.

I think this is actually even more outrageous than the impeachment is. Impeachment is at least ostensibly being run by elected Democrats, and thank God President Trump campaigned for Republican Senators as hard as he did in 2018. He knew he had to. I know it’s actually the lawfare lawyers running things, but at least there’s a veneer of democracy there. What boasberg has done, is an in your face, the hell with your stupid democracy power play. We’re lawfare, and we’ll do whatever we want. What are you going to do about it? And in some ways, they are right. What are we going to do about it? I don’t think these guys are all as smart as they think they are. But the Republican party is full of soft men. And they know that.

***Today’s WeBuildTheWall / Fisher Industries posts***
    (Previous posts: https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/01/13/january-13th-2020-presidential-politics-trump-administration-day-1089/comment-page-1/#comment-7743190)

    – – – – – –
    Monday night update – 1/13/20

    – Short video clip from Project 1.
    – Article about border monument access dispute at Project 1 gate.

    – Foreman Mike video.
    – 🧱 2 photos of the first wall sections going up on Project 2.

    – 🧱 KRGV news video of the new wall going up on Project 2. Same video posted 3 times. A little redundant but it made it easier to sort out the associated Q & A comments underneath the main tweets. (Looks like Fisher was able to start Sunday.)

    – – – – – –
***Praise: 👍 (11/20/19)… DHS Secretary Chad Wolf & CBP Chief gave a huge endorsement to WeBuildTheWall while visiting Project 1. CBP Chief called it a “Game Changer”. It’s the only time CBP or DHS have ever endorsed a wall builder.
***Praise: 🧱 (12/2/19)… Fisher Sand & Gravel was awarded a $400M border wall contract to build 31 miles of wall in the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge in Yuma County, Arizona.
(Fisher receives $268M of this $400M project)(Estimated contract completion date is Dec 30, 2020.) (2 days of posts here & here.)
***Praise: (12/4/19)… Brian Kolfage & his family were given the opportunity to visit the White House.

***Praise: Fisher Industries and crews were able to keep working on some aspects of Project 2 from the Dec. 5th hearing (while still working within the limits set by the Temporary Restraining Order) up through Dec 12th, after which they agreed to stop until Jan 4th, the day after the amended TRO expired.
***Praise: (Jan 3)… Although Judge Crane extended the TRO another week to Jan 9, he lifted/removed section 8b from the TRO so that Fisher may now continue to shave, grade, or cut the riverbank.
***Praise: (Jan 9)… Judge Randy Crane lifted/removed the TROs from both the Federal government’s lawsuit (on behalf of the IBWC) and the North American Butterfly Association’s lawsuit (on behalf of Marianna Trevino-Wright’s National Butterfly Center) against Fisher Sand and Gravel Co.
🧱 Fisher plans to start installing bollards on Sunday (Jan 12) and complete wall construction 8 to 10 days later.

***Praise: (Reported on 12/11/19)… Although WBTW doesn’t have $50 million for Project 2, as a result of the success on Project 1, investors have united to come together to secure that stretch of the border on Project 2.
***Praise: 🔍 (Reported on 12/18/19)… Senator Kevin Cramer was able to complete his in-depth review of the USACE procurement process and send a letter with his findings and recommendations to President Trump on 12/6/19.
***Praise:🇺🇸 (12/22/19)… Brian Kolfage was awarded Patriot of the Year award by Turning Point USA at their Student Action Summit for his work with WBTW in helping to securing our border.

🙏 Prayer for the work crews. 🙏
Heavenly Father, we pray in Jesus’ name:
    – for safety for the work crews as they work on Project 2; that they would be able to continue uninterrupted (w/ no new TROs) until completion (~ 8 to 10 days later).

    – that the DoD IG’s office audit of the $400 million border wall contract which the USACE awarded Fisher Sand & Gravel would show everything is fair and above board; that the swamp in DoD and USACE wouldn’t be able to corrupt the process; & that Fisher would be authorized to proceed with the project as planned.
    – that Rep. Warren Petersen’s (R-AZ) bill,HB 2084, making it easier to build border wall on private property in Arizona would get passed.
    – for the bi-national summit with the Mexican IBWC and American politicians that WBTW will be hosting; for open lines of communication/understanding; that WBTW/Fisher Industries would learn what they need to know to facilitate the sign off and approval of their projects by the Mexican IBWC.

    – for 100% safety/health/guidance/direction for the work crews, security personnel, legal team, CBP, DHS, Army and all involved in Project’s 2, 3, and other projects.
    – that work would go smoothly with continual, innovative improvements in method/process/efficiency and quality of construction; and with transitioning as they scale up capacity(manpower, equipment, etc.) to build larger projects
    – that there would be no outside interference (cartels, IBWC, courts/judges, protesters, swamp, etc.) and that if outside interference takes place that it would only work toward WBTW/Fisher Industries/USA’s benefit (exposing corruption, raising awareness, fundraising, etc.)

    – that Project 2’s wall will prove that WBTW/Fisher Industries can rapidly complete large sections of wall, with a superior build, at the lowest price
    – that this wall would prove that the design is sound and they are able to safely and effectively build it on a large scale in the Rio Grande Valley (Project 2’s “water wall” design is the first border wall that’s ever been built inside the flood plain)
    – that the federal government would provide funding for WBTW to build 250 miles on Private Property in Texas

    – that the Government would purchase all of WBTW’s projects so the funds can be rolled into future projects and Fisher Industries will be able to scale up with additional equipment and manpower as needed.
(This, in addition to ongoing fundraising from public/investors, will allow WBTW/Fisher Industries to continue to self fund projects, build their reputation/resume, while they continue to pursue other avenues which could lead to government contracts down the road.)

It’s not that they CANnot see, they simply WILL not. I used to listen to talk radio all the time. It was part of my journey to eventually end up here.

2 weeks before the election I stopped listening to talk radio because they were stressing me out – and I’m a pretty mellow guy. They were going gallows pole and I didn’t need to hear that. So people are realizing the same thing for media and cable news. It’s why, at least in my area, you rarely see news stations on in public places (bars, restaurants, mall) anymore.

Unfortunately, for proof that the Democrats have already rigged it for Biden, all you have to do is look at the latest fake news push to convince the electorate that Russia hacked Burisma so they could implicate Biden. This proves that a) Biden is guilty and they think they can intimidate everybody into ignoring it because RUSSIA and b) Biden will be their nominee or they would not be going to all this trouble.

The only question remaining is who they will try to install as VP. I believe this is their real play, as Biden is not likely to live out his term.

It is imperative that Trump is re-elected this November. I don’t want to be proven right on this one.

The Senate must perform its duty without the House dictating how, when, or if the Senate perform its duty. The Senate has no choice but to dismiss the impeachment.

Cash-Stuffed Secret Hideaway Discovered in Chinese Banker’s Apartment
    Bloomberg News
    January 14, 2020, 11:12 AM GMT+8 Updated on January 14, 2020, 12:42 PM GMT+8
Ex-chairman of Huarong confesses in state TV documentary

    CHINA DEVELOPMENT BANK
    Private Company
The former chairman of one of China’s bad banks has confessed to taking millions of yuan in bribes which he kept in metal cabinets in a Beijing apartment he nicknamed “the supermarket.”

Lai Xiaomin, former head of China Huarong Asset Management Co., has been charged with taking bribes, corruption and bigamy in one of China’s biggest financial corruption cases.

On Monday, he confessed in a state TV documentary that he preferred cash payments and said he would drive trunk loads of bills to the apartment, where more than 200 million yuan ($29 million) was uncovered.

“I got the money and just left it there, just like making regular trips to the supermarket,” the 57-year-old Lai, wearing a gray-blue polo shirt, said on the program. “I didn’t spend a cent. It’s all confiscated in the end.”

Confessions such as Lai’s are becoming a more common ritual in China as President Xi Jinping tightens his grip on the Communist Party-ruled nation. Xi is also contending with the slowest economic growth in three decades, rising financial risks, a trade dispute with the U.S. and growing opposition to the Communist Party in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Authorities are taking an increasingly tough stance on corporate malfeasance, broadening Xi’s seven-year corruption crackdown into the nation’s boardrooms. In a speech Monday, Xi said the state will also punish people responsible for corruption linked to local government debt risk. China is in the midst of a record wave of bond defaults as growth slows, with even state-backed firms now missing bond payments.

Detained in 2018, Lai is accused of taking 1.65 billion yuan in bribes, people familiar with the matter have said. He was found to own a large number of properties, luxury watches, cars, gold and art collections.

    ‘Shocking’

The revelations about Lai have been a hot topic among top policy makers, regulators and state-owned entities. The central bank has said that Lai’s “shocking” activities caused severe losses for the state, undermining both financial security and stability. State media calls him the nation’s most corrupt financial official.

A slew of officials have been caught up in Xi’s dragnet, including Yang Jiacai, a former assistant vice chairman at China Banking Regulatory Commission, Yao Gang, who was vice chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission and Wu Xiaohui, who oversaw Anbang Insurance Group Co. They were all sentenced to at least 16 years in prison. More than 1 million government officials have been punished in Xi’s anti-corruption campaign, according to the official People’s Daily.

In another high-profile case, China’s Communist Party last week expelled former China Development Bank Chairman Hu Huaibang after finding “serious” disciplinary and legal violations.

Lai oversaw Huarong from 2012 until he ran into trouble in 2018. It’s one of four companies set up in 1999 to help clean up a banking system riddled with bad debt. The state-owned enterprise held a $2.5 billion initial share sale in 2015, giving it a market value of more than $15 billion. Its Hong Kong shares are now worth less than half of that.

Under Lai, Huarong’s business was expanded into securities, trusts, investments and futures, deviating from the mandate of disposing of bad loans. The former head of its international operation said Lai only cared about short-term profit and invested heavily in high-risk assets such as properties and stocks. Lai also created a culture of nepotism by hiring people from his province in Jiangxi, even snatching the chef at Huarong from his home region, according to the documentary.

Lai had previously worked at the central bank and China’s banking regulator.’

He must have avoided paying Cumshaw to Chairman Xi Mao2.0.🤣

They are threefold: 1. burnish the reputation of the GOP senate as stately, fair-minded truth-seekers NOT as overtly partisan hacks as in the House, 2. impugn democrats by comparison as to ensure a GOP majority, 3. subtly weaken and marginalize President Trump (while playing for time if possible to remove him — the abiding wish of a wing of the GOP).

That could help primary the GOPe TDS crazy wing. Rob Portman apparently did not fully appreciate the Toledo rally energy and support.

To the extent that PJT’s defense resulting from the GOPe anti-Trump votes, then ensnares GOP corruption-kickbacks in a “trial free-for-all”, the GOPe senators will not curry favor with their fellow Repubs. And will have given up on re-election whenever they run again, if they remove PDJT.

FTA “the Schiff-Nadler Star Chamber violated President Trump’s Fifth Amendment rights to procedural due process, rendering the resulting impeachment articles null and void as “poisoned fruit.” The GOP leadership should do what the Founders would have done: challenge the legal legitimacy of the impeachment articles. The logic blueprint I will present below — Mr. Jefferson knew logic — will help make the case in court…
What happened in the House should never have happened in the first place and must not be allowed to happen again. It may be necessary to ask for a Supreme Court ruling on the matter to set a binding precedent.
By proceeding to the trial phase, the GOP is implicitly granting legal legitimacy to House impeachment proceedings, which demonstrably violated President Trump’s Fifth Amendment rights. This sets a bad precedent.
The GOP cannot allow even the possibility that President Trump will be found guilty. A successful court challenge would send a message to Trump-supporters that the GOP means business and stands united behind our president.”

Why isn’t this approach to the partisan Unconstitutional impeachment being looked at? Now the Senate won’t vote to dismiss, next will be Republicans can have witnesses, then in order to be “fair” Democrats will be allowed to present witnesses (thanks to Romney et al) and the Senate trial will turn into a sh*t sandwich shoved down our throats! The outcome will be unknown but in the process such an Unconstitutional impeachment will be granted “legal legitimacy” for all of perpetuity! Godspeed President Trump!

      • The Senate will establish that §1.9.3 is not part of the US Constitution: a Bill of Attainder is perfectly acceptable, and a President may be impeached for committing no violation of the United States Code. Presidents and Justices serve at the pleasure of Congress and may be arbitrarily removed by them. In the future, if the public elects the “wrong” President, (s)he shall be impeached on Inauguration Day and replaced by the Speaker of the House and other appointees. The separation of powers is swept away and tyranny will be the inevitable result. The authors of our system of Government were scholars of history.

      • I’m fairly certain that “Due Process” will apply in the Senate, but not the House. It’s a matter of having legal representation when actually Tried, but not necessarily when a case is prepared by a prosecutor seeking indictment, which is what the Impeachment process has been likened to.

        Liked by 1 person

        • Bubby says:

So what you’re saying is the House is the prosecutor and can use evidence sufficient for indicting a ham sandwich to indict a sitting President? Some how that doesn’t seem to me to meet the Constitutional standard of high crimes and misdemeanors. But I’m not a legal scholar or any kind of scholar. All I’m suggesting is let the Supreme Court decide if the House process was Constitutional and if it does then have the Senate trial. If what Pelsoi did in the House is Constitutional I will have change what I believe the Founders had established for influence/control over the Presidency! In my mind the separation of powers the Founders had established in the Constitution will be fundamentally changed for the worst forever!

          Like

          • There’s a difference between indicting someone, and convicting them. But, while the House proceedings were obviously biased, they may have been entirely in line with the letter of the Constitution, and not the spirit of it.

IMO, the Framers never intended for impeachment to be used as a partisan tool when opposing ideologies collided. But that’s exactly what it has become, and the Dems have played fast and loose with their interpretation of “High Crimes and Misdemeanors”

ANOTHER question this raises is the degree to which, if any, that the Judicial Branch can intervene. Separation of Powers applies THERE, too, since a SCOTUS intervention could take a decision (to remove a sitting President) OUT of the hands of the Senators, and into the hands of only FIVE Justices. That’s DEFINITELY NOT what was specified in the Constitution.

I can’t bear to look at that man’s face at this point. Barr insists he’s doing a bang-up job. I’m not feeling it. Wray needs to be fired, like, yesterday.

The lead editorial from today’s Wall Street Journal supporting the president’s streamlining of red tape now currently strangling our country in so many ways:

    (My emphasis in bold)

“If you visit an aging American megaproject—say, the Hoover Dam—you’ll probably see a startling statistic about how quickly it was built. Congress authorized the damming of the Colorado River in 1928, construction started in 1931, and the 726-foot concrete wonder opened in 1936. That’s a “shovel ready” job.

Today even modest public works, including roads, bridges and airport runways, can spend years in limbo, no thanks to the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA. That 1970 law requires an environmental study of any major project that involves federal funding or permitting. NEPA hasn’t been overhauled in 40 years, which is why the Trump Administration deserves applause for moving last week to modernize it.

Everybody wants to protect the environment. But NEPA isn’t doing the job sensibly….Environmental assessments and impact statements are often monstrously detailed, since agencies and sponsors are trying to make them litigation proof.

The result is a regulatory morass. From 2013 to 2017, the average final impact statement took more than four years and ran 669 pages, the Council on Environmental Quality said last summer. The longest file was for a contentious 12-mile expansion of Interstate 70 in Denver. The final report ran 8,951 pages, plus another 7,307 pages of appendices. The whole rigmarole took 13 years.

… As Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said on a call with reporters: “When I asked our senior managers if they were reading these documents that were several thousand pages long, they said, emphatically, no.”

In 2017 Philip Howard’s outfit, Common Good, estimated the cost of a blanket six-year delay on big projects. He came up with $3.7 trillion, including environmental losses, injuries to health, highway congestion, and so forth. Think about it: 13 years of studying I-70 is 13 years of Coloradans cursing traffic while their engines vaporize gasoline in first gear.

On Thursday the Trump Administration released a proposed rule to streamline NEPA reviews. One highlight is that the process would have presumptive limits: two years and 300 pages for a full environmental impact statement; or a year and 75 pages for a smaller environmental assessment….

…Liberals are atwitter because the rule would delete language that requires evaluating a project’s “cumulative impact.” That’s a fuzzy concept—which is why environmentalists love it, since they can claim that a study of an oil pipeline didn’t account correctly for its contribution to the rising sea level in 2100.

…Sean McGarvey, head of North America’s Building Trades Unions. “This proposal does nothing to take away from the protections for our citizens, for our taxpayers, for our workers, or for our environment,” he said. Mr. McGarvey added that he’s hoping for thousands of new construction jobs.

America reached the moon in 9 years, but now Leftist Environmental Lunacy prevents progress for 13 years on building a freeway. Projects are “studied” to death and go nowhere for a decade.

The Empire State Building was created in 13 months: it took a decade to replace the World Trade Center.

By electing DEMS and RINOS who have created massive bureaucracies for 80 years, we have elected to strangle our country slowly and painfully. Is America finally realizing that the Lilliputian Leftists have tied us down with a million ropes?

    • Excellent points, the “fuzziness” is intentional as it allows for politicizing, well, everything.

This process is going to be necessary to ever get any more nuclear or other type of clean energy facilities off the ground. Which, if the greenies were not typical leftist hypocrites, they would be encouraging.

This is one of the “quiet” things Trump does to MAGA. These are real benefits that businesses will see even after big-government Presidents after him undo and coast off his re-structuring of the American economy.

Is it true the Senate doesn’t have 51 votes to dismiss the impeachment trial?
    What does this mean?

Nancy Pelosi continuously says that now Trump is “forever impeached” (which apparently was her motivation). No one ever replies, “so was Bill Clinton, for an ACTUAL crime.”
