Sunday December 15th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    The Power Of Godliness

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

    God would have us live as His own sacred possession, separate from this world-system, but godliness is out of style these days. Religious leaders in ever greater number are telling us that to win the world we must become part of it and to win the people of the world we must fellowship with them in the things they do and the places to which they go. But the believer cannot impress the world by conforming to it. And even if he could this approach would still be contrary to the Will of God, for His Word exhorts us:

    “Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the re- newing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and accept- able and perfect, will of God” (Rom. 12:2).

    It is true godliness, consistent separation to God from this world, which most deeply impresses the lost to whom we bear witness.

    True godliness exerts enormous spiritual power. It causes men to toil and sacrifice, yea to suffer and die for Christ and for others. It exerts a profound influence upon those with whom it comes into contact. A truly godly believer will win the respect of other believers and by his example encourage them to live godly lives, while at the same time his godliness will convict the lost, so that they will either be angered or will turn to Christ for salvation.

    This is why II Tim. 3:12 says: “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Carnal Christians do not like to think about the word “all” in this passage, but it is there and stands as a rebuke to their lack of consecration to God. They have “a form of godliness” but deny “the power thereof” (II Timothy 3:5).

    https://www.bereanbiblesociety.org/the-power-of-godliness/

    Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

    2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

    2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    The bond between humans and dogs is incredibly strong and sweet. Because of their long association with us, dogs reflect human values and emotions. They do this as best they can often showing the kind of absolute trust and courage that personifies the very best human values. This dog was in dire danger yet he put his complete trust in the human who was equally determined to rescue him from certain death. Neither dog nor man was going to give up. At the moment of rescue, the thousands of years of association combined in a vivid moment and you can easily sense the strength of the ancient bond between them. When these things happen it isn’t just the dog that gets saved . . . it’s us too.

      Most of my adult career centered around people in distress. Drug addicts, street walkers, homeless, you name it.

      Semi-retired today, I now spend a few days each week at the rural animal shelter where I live working with animals. This experience has prompted me to consider whether animals, especially dogs, would have been a better focus.

      Great video, thanks for posting.

    I always thought that Romney threw in the towel and gave Obama the election in 2012. Romney blew him away in the 1st debate but it always seemed like Romney did not try to win the other debates. Did Obama spy on Romney and therefore bribe or blackmail him into losing on purpose? Has anyone else thought this? Has it even been addressed? Did I miss something?

      What’s important is that Romney did it, thereby exposing his unreliability, and his treacherous disloyalty to the nation, to the Constitution, and to his national Republican constituency.
      That betrayal should never be forgotten nor forgiven.

      Romney lost in 2012 because he’s nothing but a blowhard who speaks out of both sides of his mouth. He said he was against Obamacare, but had no trouble signing a bill that forced the same type of healthcare mess upon the people of Massachusetts. He was also one of the Bain Capital Boys, who are well known for buying up distressed companies, laying off all of the employees, then selling off the assets of those companies, rather than to try and save them.

      Take a look at the recent poll numbers in Utah for Romney. He’s not doing well, which is probably why he has pretty much gone silent lately. He’s nothing but a creep who cares nothing about Main Street and is bed with Wall Street. Him and Paul Ryan are cut from the same mold, the one that creates spineless and gutless humans who would sell their souls to the devil so they could enrichen themselves.

      I expect better from the Republican Party going forward. Lord help us all if they run another candidate in the future like McCain or Romney. President Trump has now raised the bar high as to what a president can do, including keeping campaign promises and putting America FIRST. It will take a mighty tall person with integrity who could even come close to filling the shoes that President Trump is wearing.

    If the impeachment scam does not make it out of the house, Rep McCarthy should put a motion on the floor to vote on a resolution of no confidence for Pelosi, Schiff and Nadler. Probably an exercise in futility, but Pelosi won the speakership by a scant 4 votes…quite a few democrats voted for someone other than her and would be good to see how they feel now…

    Joe Cunningham of South Carolina; Jared Golden of Maine; Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey; and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia voted for Cheri Bustos;
    Jason Crow of Colorado and Max Rose of New York voted for Tammy Duckworth, who was not a member of the House at the time;
    Kathleen Rice of New York voted for Stacey Abrams, who was not a member of the House at the time;
    Anthony Brindisi of New York voted for Joe Biden, who was not a member of the House at the time;
    Kurt Schrader of Oregon voted for Marcia Fudge;
    Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania voted for Joe Kennedy III;
    Ron Kind of Wisconsin voted for John Lewis;
    Justin Amash of Michigan voted for Thomas Massie;
    Ben McAdams of Utah voted for Stephanie Murphy.

    Additionally, three representatives answered present when their name was called:[33]
    ■ Jim Cooper of Tennessee; Elissa Slotkin of Michigan; and Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey.

    I live in VA-2, represented by Elaine Luria, who has stated her support for impeachment. Just posted the following on her FB page:

      …That enough House Dems leave the party so that Pelosi is no longer House Speaker.
      I read so much so far today I forgot where I read it- but there were 3 long time elected Dems petitioning Clinton in the 90’s against a very unpopular action. Not only did they lose their next elections, but the House went Republican for the 1st time in forever (paraphrasing).
      I bet that elected ‘elites’ are getting ‘what for’ over impeachment, as are the 31 newbies, so my guess is that a change in House majority COULD happen.
      Just imagine all the wonderful legislation that could take place almost immediately.

    This really, really pisses me off…one Executive Order prohibiting alcohol on any and all military aircraft would be be awesome. Checkout the receipts for booze in the article…all top shelf stuff. In an earlier life I was often tasked to go to the liquor store to buy the booze to stock the bar on these aircraft. So here am I, an AF Captain at the time, using taxpayer money to buy booze for a bunch of congressional members to have an open bar on a junket where they spend a lot of time buying trinkets and getting wined and dined by a foreign power. Pissed me off then, and does to this day.

    POTUS pulled the plug on an earlier Pelosi led junket to Europe, he really needs to cut off the booze too. Military members cannot drink on military aircraft, why should the Imperial Congress be allowed to.

    Also, did ya know Empress Pelosi demands certain aircraft from the 89th Airlift Wing at Andrews AFB to avoid having to stop in flyover country to refuel on her frequent trips back to San Francisco?

    APPROVED UNTO GOD

    “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Tim. ii. 15

    If you cannot express yourself on any subject, struggle until you can. If you do not, someone will be the poorer all the days of his life. Struggle to re-express some truth of God to yourself, and God will use that expression to someone else. Go through the winepress of God where the grapes are crushed. You must struggle to get expression experimentally, then there will come a time when that expression will become the very wine of strengthening to someone else; but if you say lazily – “I am not going to struggle to express this thing for myself, I will borrow what I say,” the expression will not only be of no use to you, but of no use to anyone. Try to state to yourself what you feel implicitly to be God’s truth, and you give God a chance to pass it on to someone else through you.

    Always make a practice of provoking your own mind to think out what it accepts easily. Our position is not ours until we make it ours by suffering. The author who benefits you most is not the one who tells you something you did not know before, but the one who gives expression to the truth that has been dumbly struggling in you for utterance.

    From an insider: A compare/contrast look back at Wategate and today’s sham impeachment.

    Five men were caught red-handed on June 17, 1972, in the offices of the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate Office Building. One of them had been a CIA wireman and was head of security for Nixon’s reelection campaign, the Committee for the Reelection of the President (CRP). It soon came out that two others, also connected with CRP, had directed the break-in: G. Gordon Liddy, a former FBI agent, and E. Howard Hunt, a career CIA agent. All were indicted on September 15, 1972, and convicted on January 30, 1973. There was speculation from the outset that knowledge and approval of the break-in went far higher within the Nixon administration. It was soon revealed that there had indeed been an extensive cover-up — which collapsed gloriously shortly after the break-in defendants’ sentencing on March 21, 1973.

    For those tracing parallels to today, this is where the two situations part ways. In Watergate, there was no doubt that real crimes were committed: there really was an actual break-in and an actual cover-up. The only issues were who and how many were involved. From a legal perspective, a cover-up is a conspiracy to obstruct justice — and one of the more interesting things about the law of conspiracy is that, once a conspiracy plot is shown to exist, it takes almost no proof to add additional defendants. Thus, in a highly politicized prosecution, simply having been nearby could (and did) have catastrophic consequences. With Trump, there is no proof that a conspiracy existed at all. So naturally, the likelihood of prosecution from association with Trump is much lower.

    I just want to know if Obama spied on Romney in 2012 election. Was Romney blackmailed?

    • Lucille says:

      IMO, yes on the first; no on the 2nd. Romney basically has led a circumspect life morally and religiously. There has never been even a mild scandal connected to him outside a few somewhat questionable business ventures…and though it is scandalous to a conservative, you can’t really consider his governorship of Michigan a scandal. All the Obama team could find was that his family drove to a vacation destination with their dog in a secured kennel on the vehicle roof rack…a big nothing, though it was something a lot of animal lovers find unkind.

      There’s no reason to believe that he’s done something so horrible that he could be blackmailed about. He lost the election because he had no courage. After the election, one of Romney’s sons said his father hadn’t really wanted to be President, and I think that covers it…that lack of courage determined his fate.

      “Reports that say that something hasn’t happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.” – Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

      When the organization known as Black Lives Matter (BLM) was first formed right after George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the death of Trayvon Martin on July 13, 2013, most overlooked the true intentions of the group beyond their calls for “justice”. Fast forward to today and it can no longer be overlooked that their calls for justice now result in retaliatory violence against those whom they believe are the oppressors… By tracing the origins of the organization back to its philosophical formation in the 1960’s, we can begin to see how BLM is rooted in the radical ideological beliefs espoused by none other than President Barack Obama.

    Socialism bred confusion, discontent, and starvation

    Excerpt from “History of Plymouth Plantation”
    by William Bradford, governor of Plymouth colony

    The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s and other ancients applauded by some of later times; and that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this community (so far as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. [ ] Upon the point all being to have alike, and all to do alike, they thought themselves in the like condition, and one as good as another; and so, if it did not cut off those relations that God hath set amongst men, yet it did at least much diminish and take off the mutual respects that should be preserved amongst them. And would have been worse if they had been men of another condition. Let none object this is men’s corruption, and nothing to the course itself. I answer, seeing all men have this corruption in them, God in His wisdom saw another course fitter for them.
