Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    The Apostle Of Grace

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

Did you know that St. Paul was chosen by God as the apostle of grace? He was God’s great example of grace, the “chief of sinners” saved by grace (1 Tim. 1:12-16). To him was committed “the dispensation of the grace of God” (Eph. 3:2). He was sent forth to proclaim “the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).

Paul wrote far more about grace than any other Bible writer. All his epistles open or close (or both) with the salutation “Grace be to you.” He declares:

“We have redemption through [Christ’s] blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace” (Eph. 1:7).

He shows how this grace was planned for believers in ages past:

“Who hath saved us and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and [His own] grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (II Tim. 1:9).

He shows how this grace will be ours in ages to come:

“That in the ages to come, He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:7).

He shows how this grace is greater than all our sins:

“Where sin abounded grace did much more abound” (Rom. 5:20).

He shows how grace gives us a righteous standing before God:

“Being justified freely by His grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 3:24).

He shows how God’s grace has given believers a position in heaven:

“[He] hath… made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus… for by grace are ye saved, through faith….” (Eph. 2:6,8).

He shows how God’s grace is sufficient for our difficulties and can help us to live consistent Christian lives:

“My grace is sufficient for thee” (II Cor. 12:9).

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” (II Cor. 9:8).

Accept salvation “by grace, through faith” as “the gift of God” (Eph. 2:8,9), and eternal life is yours.

    1 Timothy 1:12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

Ephesians 3:2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

    Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Ephesians 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
…. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

2Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

In the late 70’s guitarist William Ackerman founded Windham Hill Records and single handedly jump-started the “New Age” music genre. He was a WWII German war orphan who was adopted by a Stanford professor and his wife at age 9. At age 13 his adoptive mother committed suicide.
He was the first person to discover her body. Being an orphan, coming to a strange country, and then again losing a parent had to have been an emotionally devastating experience for a young boy.
A few years later, in his 20’s, he composed this moving lament as a way of conveying the profound grief he felt at losing his second mother. When I first heard this piece although I didn’t know Ackerman’s back story, I immediately knew that it was written and played by someone who was trying to expiate a grief that couldn’t be put into words. Over the years Ackerman has recorded several different versions of this song. I think this is his best performance.

Thank you for the song and story behind musician. I always love the stories behind the songs. I have always thought a TV show with various artists explaining their works and ideas behind them would be an instant hit. Might even make a person who never “thought” they’d like something all the sudden our around and LOVE a genre. I’d even take a book 😉 Music has a way of fast tracking me to my long stored memories and has a way of stirring up emotions and feelings that always make me smile regardless of the sadness that some of those songs are attached to. Thank you again, for reintroducing me to Windham Hill Records and Mr Ackerman.

Garrison, thank you for posting this Will Ackerman piece. I have a couple of his CD’s. Very contemplative music. Very enjoyable to listen to, and I like to “paint pictures” in my imagination of the songs. I have never heard this piece, and I did not know Will’s story.

I play guitar myself, and love his phrasing, and the music between-the-notes. Thank you again for sharing!

      • Garrison Hall says:

Early on Will got seriously into alternate tunings. Alas, they remain a mystery to me . . .

What a beautiful song… I have been a Windham Hill — and Ackerman — fan since high school… So pretty much since their beginning… But I never knew Ackerman founded the company or his compelling story… I often learn things from these posts and you have expanded my musical horizons as well… Thanks, GH.

If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself.” Matthew xvi. 24

Individuality is the husk of the personal life. Individuality is all elbows, it separates and isolates. It is the characteristic of the child and rightly so; but if we mistake individuality for the personal life, we will remain isolated. The shell of individuality is God’s created natural covering for the protection of the personal life; but individuality must go in order that the personal life may come out and be brought into fellowship with God. Individuality counterfeits personality as lust counterfeits love. God designed human nature for Himself; individuality debases human nature for itself.

The characteristics of individuality are independence and self-assertiveness. It is the continual assertion of individuality that hinders our spiritual life more than anything else. If you say – “I cannot believe,” it is because individuality is in the road; individuality never can believe. Personality cannot help believing. Watch yourself when the Spirit of God is at work. He pushes you to the margins of your individuality, and you have either to say – “I shan’t,” or to surrender, to break the husk of individuality and let the personal life emerge. The Holy Spirit narrows it down every time to one thing (cf. Matthew v. 23-24). The thing in you that will not be reconciled to your brother is your individuality. God wants to bring you into union with Himself, but unless you are willing to give up your right to yourself He cannot. “Let him deny himself” – deny his independent right to himself, then the real life has a chance to grow.

On the other hand, those adults around her who have tortured and brainwashed her into her abject terror and hatred should be prosecuted. Better yet, dragged into the town square and horse whipped. Outrageous what they have done to this child.

    To Ponder

Let me ponder on God’s wonderful Paradise (Genesis 2):

    1. How it was a kingdom of innocence, purity and righteousness.
    2. How there was no trace of sickness or death, for there was no thought of sin.

It is ‘the kingdom of God’ and it was bought on the cross by Jesus for us all, but to access is the ‘narrow path’. Not in endless laws but in love and the way of this fallen world is taught from birth.
When you catch a glimpse of Gods kingdom you understand, Paul writes about it, how ‘the flesh is at war with the spirit’. It’s real and attainable but through Jesus only which is not only Gods word but righteousness which gives us the ‘grade’ needed to enter training.
“Showing thyself approved” a power and freedom so great it changes all things.
“Climbing up some other way” is rejected, it entails “acts of man” and “false religions”or ‘spiritual works’ that are not of God.
To see and grasp his kingdom if only for a moment is such joy, it propels a life into an addiction that is holy, and we were created for. I would say it would heal all faults if it could be related in some physical understanding.

On Thanksgiving Day, the largest local / regional newspaper here had a large number of advertising inserts for “Black Friday” and the days to follow.

The majority of these ads used a lot of red, green, silver, and gold colors to evoke a special sentiment to somehow honor a special season.

Very few of these ads from national and local retailers included the word Christmas. The ones that did so included products from specific manufacturers that put the word on the product in the ad. There were some afs from certain retailers that called a Christmas tree a Christmas tree. The ads from Lowe’s and Michael’s were better than most of the others in identifying merchandise for Christmas.

The best ad of all was from a family-owned company headquartered in Wisconsin. The Black Friday ad for Menard’s included a prominent blurb stating why the company would be closed for Thanksgiving Day. Then the company inclued a separate insert actually labelled as “Christmas Catalog.”

Fifty years ago, the ads for Christmas in the same newspaper routinely featured black/white images of Nativity scenes and references to Jesus Christ.

There should be a seperate Tony category for ‘Best Tapdance by a Politician Avoiding Calling a Spade a Spade’. The gov and AG for the state of New Jersey would win hands down for their press conference on the Jersey City shooting.

They’re unwilling to call iot terrorism even though the shooters are part of the Black Hebrew Israelites, a group of black ‘jews’ who believe they are the true descendants of the original Israelites and the Jewish-jews are fakes. Ironically the sect has even put out numerous antisemitic tracts.

We have a sect that has published antisemitic texts, believes they are the ‘true’ descendents of the early Israelites, we have at least one sect member specifically targeting a Jewish business and video of him and his accomplice opening fire on the store as soon as they exit their van. Oh yeah, they were also in possession of a (police description) ‘viable pipe bomb’.

OK, New Jersey politicians, what’s your definition of terrorism is but even de Blasio, right across the river, called it terrorism. The Jerusalem Post called it terrorism. A deaf hermit living in a cave in the Himalayas called it terrorism – what’s it gonna take for the NJ pols to do the same?
