Monday December 9th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

The Path Of A Good Soldier

    By Pastor Paul M. Sadler

“Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” — II Tim. 2:1,2

If we were to ask the average Christian to write down what they expect in a spiritual leader the list would probably read something like this: A man of God must have completed college and seminary. He should be eloquent and be able to articulate his thoughts well, enthusiastic, insightful, creative, and have a good sense of humor. In addition, he should not have too many shortcomings, and be well dressed.

Interestingly, just the opposite was true of the spiritual leaders found in the Scriptures. Most of the giants of the faith in biblical times were unlearned and ignorant men by the world’s standard. The Bible is a who’s who of shortcomings: Noah’s drunkenness, Moses’ speech impediment, David’s adulterous ways, Peter’s denials, Paul’s repulsive appearance, etc. Nevertheless, God used these souls mightily to the pulling down of strongholds. As it has been said, “God took a handful of nobodies and made somebodies in His sight.”

While we are an advocate of higher education, intellectualism is not a prerequisite to be used of the Lord. God has accomplished great things through those who merely had a willing heart. Timothy, for example, wasn’t educated at the Ivy League Schools of Jerusalem, nonetheless, God chose him to carry the torch of grace after Paul’s martyrdom.

2 Timothy 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Garrison, the first long-playing album I ever purchased was the soundtrack for THE GLENN MILLER STORY (1954) starring James Stewart and June Allison and still have it in an album frame.

When I started 7th grade, we danced to swing music, as rock n’ roll wasn’t yet a big thing. If you watch the James Dean film REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE which was filmed in 1954, you won’t hear rock but big band music.

“And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” Gal. v. 24

The natural life is not sinful; we must be apostatized from sin, have nothing to do with sin in any shape or form. Sin belongs to hell and the devil; I, as a child of God, belong to heaven and God. It is not a question of giving up sin, but of giving up my right to myself, my natural independence and self-assertiveness, and this is where the battle has to be fought. It is the things that are right and noble and good from the natural standpoint that keep us back from God’s best. To discern that natural virtues antagonize surrender to God, is to bring our soul into the centre of its greatest battle. Very few of us debate with the sordid and evil and wrong, but we do debate with the good. It is the good that hates the best, and the higher up you get in the scale of the natural virtues, the more intense is the opposition to Jesus Christ. “They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh” – it is going to cost the natural in you everything, not something. Jesus said – “If any man will be my disciple, let him deny HIMSELF,” i.e., his right to himself, and a man has to realize Who Jesus Christ is before he will do it. Beware of refusing to go to the funeral of your own independence.

The natural life is not spiritual, and it can only be made spiritual by sacrifice. If we do not resolutely sacrifice the natural, the supernatural can never become natural in us. There is no royal road there; each of us has it entirely in his own hands. It is not a question of praying, but of performing.

Media complicity in the ethnic cleansing of Bethlehem – and gloating during the Advent of Christmas!

Alternative Bethlehem: A new form of tourism is taking root in the Palestinian city that’s so long focused only on Christmas, promoting traditional guesthouses, the local cuisine and the British artist Banksy’s work. By @MohammedDaragh1 and @josephkrauss.

” In 1950, Bethlehem and the surrounding villages were 86 percent Christian. But by 2016, the Christian population dipped to just 12 percent, according to Bethlehem mayor Vera Baboun. Most of that decrease was between 1950 and 1967, when many Christians left, mainly for Europe, the U.S., and Canada, for they saw little future for themselves in a Muslim sea. But when the Israelis took over in 1967, the Christian population stopped its long decline. When Israel handed Bethlehem over, most unwisely, to the Palestine Authority in 1995, the slide in the Christian population resumed, and is now 12%.

OK completely random but relevant to woke culture complete amnesia about American :

I’ve been watching “Game of Thrones” after avoiding it for the entire run of the show. At the end of each episode, the writers discuss what happened in the episode which is helpful because I haven’t read the books and didn’t really watch the first 4 seasons while my wife was streaming them. The explanations help to fill in details I otherwise would miss.

Anyhow – there is one scene of a war council where all the power players around the table are women: Queens, noble ladies, etc. The writers make a point of how refreshing and exciting it is to see a war council where it isn’t a bunch of old graybeards, but women including some who are quite young.

WHAT DECADE ARE THESE PEOPLE LIVING IN? This is 2019, not 1969.

When I was a young child in the early 1970’s one of the big “surprise” elements in popular entertainment and advertising was to show a figure doing something very exciting – for example, a motocross rider tearing up the track and making big jumps – only to have the rider remove the helmet to reveal the long flowing hair of a GIRL! **gasp** I didn’t know women could do THAT! An old Sesame Street episode from the same period featured women muppets singing a song about “there’s nothing we women can’t be!”

And 50 years later, these Hollyweird woketards still think it’s amazing that women in a fantasy TV series can be something other than eye candy.

    Really annoying.

    To Ponder

Let me ponder on the wondrous creation of the world (Genesis 2):

    1. How the Lord God made man, and made woman out of man.
    2. How Adam and Eve were naked and were not ashamed, for they did not yet know sin.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
