Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    The Father Of Believers

“Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness” (Rom. 4:3).

Has it ever occurred to you that the most loved, the most honored, the most respected person of all history is — not Christ, but Abraham. Christ ought to be most loved, honored and respected, but Abraham is. Besides the millions of professing Christians there are untold millions of Jews and Mohammedans who speak with reverance of “our father Abraham.”

Clearly this is why God used this man to show how to be saved and justified before a holy God. As Paul is God’s great example of grace, so Abraham is God’s great example of faith — saving faith.

“If Abraham were justified by works,” says Rom. 4:2, he has something to boast about — but not before God, who sees and knows all. But Abraham was justified. How? “What saith the Scripture? Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness” (Ver. 3).

God, of course, had planned salvation through the redemptive work of Christ and has always saved anyone who simply trusts Him and takes Him at His Word. Since Abraham, of course, more of God’s Word has been revealed and we know the details of Christ’s death for sinners. If we now take God at His Word and simply trust Christ as Savior we are completely justified, for salvation is not; cannot be, by works:

“But to him that worketh not but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Rom. 4:5).

“…through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins, and by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses” (Acts 13:38,39).

Romans 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Acts 13:38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Was not our father Abraham justified by works when hw offered Isaac his son upon the alter. Faith without works is nothing. (James, chapter 3) ….btw- James is believed by many to be the brother of this same Jesus. Pretty good source, I’d say.

Last night Livefreeordieguy commented how a friend had long ago recommended Richard Thompson’s song about a ’52 Vincent motorcycle. He’d never listened to it until I put up Thompson’s performance of it last night. I had a similar musical mystery. When I was a little kid my favorite Saturday morning radio drama (remember those?) was Sargent Preston Of The Yukon. The program always started with this stirring theme music that I always identified as “The theme from Sargent Preston”. That wasn’t the title of course and so as I got older I whistled and hummed that music as best I could to countless music professor and classical musicians, none of whom could recognize the tune. Then one night on a classical music station I heard it! I called the station and told the announcer all about the Sargent Preston radio show. He laughed and said his phones were ringing with other people telling him the same thing. The Sargent Preston them music is actually the overture to the opera “Donna Diana” by Emil von Reznicek, a bandmaster in the Austro- Hungarian Empire. Listening to it, I can easily imagine my 9 year old self curled up in a big overstuffed chair waiting for my favorite radio drama to begin.

If so, you probably know it was Jeff “Skunk” Baxter who lit us all up with his guitar playing on too many hits to count here.

But in addition to being a music legend, he’s also a highly sought after national missile defense expert, who loves his country and is grateful to be in the fight to protect it.

In my view he’s a self made man and a really fine example of American exceptionalism.

    THE KEY TO THE MISSIONARY

“All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations.” Matthew xxviii. 18-20

The basis of missionary appeals is the authority of Jesus Christ, not the needs of the heathen. We are apt to look upon Our Lord as One Who assists us in our enterprises for God. Our Lord puts Himself as the absolute sovereign supreme Lord over His disciples. He does not say the heathen will be lost if we do not go; He simply says – “Go ye therefore and teach all nations.” Go on the revelation of My sovereignty; teach and preach out of a living experience of Me.

“Then the eleven disciples went…unto a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.” v. 16. If I want to know the universal sovereignty of Christ, I must know Him for myself, and how to get alone with Him; I must take time to worship the Being Whose Name I bear. “Come unto Me” – that is the place to meet Jesus. Are you weary and heavy laden? How many missionaries are! We banish those marvelous words of the universal Sovereign of the world to the threshold of an after-meeting; they are the words of Jesus to His disciples.

“Go ye therefore…” Go simply means live. Acts i.8 is the description of how to go. Jesus did not say – Go into Jerusalem and Judaea and Samaria, but, “Ye shall be witnesses unto Me” in all these places. He undertakes to establish the goings.

“If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you…” – that is the way to keep going in our personal lives. Where we are placed is a matter of indifference; God engineers the goings.

“None of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself…” That is how to keep going till we’re gone.

I can’t help but feel that the focus on Joe and Hunter Biden is draining the oxygen from that room. It may have been intentional to draw attention away from the missing Billions of dollars.

Think about it this way. Two crimes happen at the same time. A bank and hotdogs stand in front of the bank are robbed. Everyone is focusing on the hotdog stand. No one is talking about the bank robbery… It seems to me the bigger crime is the bank robbery.

I fear that Joe and Hunter were offered up to cover the missing Billions. I can’t help but wonder where the Billions went. I’m guessing the to whom and for what’s of this is a massive scandal that’ll make Joe and Hunter the proverbial hotdogs.

Here’s something that really bothers me, perhaps too much, but it’s how I feel.
My church has two Sunday services, a.m. and p.m., and an evening prayer meeting on a weekday.
The morning Sunday worship is held in the church, the vening service and the prayer meeting in another building on the property.
Last evening it was announced that due to security concerns, the doors to the building where evening services are held will be locked fifteen minutes after services begin.

Because there are “security” people out in the parking lot on Sunday morning, it is felt that the church itself can remain open.

W did have an incident, where a man with mental problems came into a service, and made rude, harassing remarks to a teenage member of the congregation, who was playing the piano.
So, they don’t want people to just be able to walk in off the street.

One of my big personal issues, is the way that, since 9/11, we have allowed “safety” concerns to erode our freedoms.
President Trump is wonderful. but this is not one of his issues.
I especially object to the way we accept security measures that don’t increase security, because they can’t.
Such as the theater in airports. It interferes with our freedom, yet it males no one safer.

The man who caused trouble in church, entered the building well before the service started.
Locking the door later would have served no purpose.
Another thing, although the service was not held in the church itself, it was the morning church service, which was moved into the other building due to hot weather, as the church is not air conditioned.
So, the “security” was in place in the parking lot when this happened.
It does not make sense to lock doors fifteen minutes after evening programs begin, because a man
was bothering people at a morning service he arrived ahead time for.

Maybe it’s my patriot blood. My ancestors did not fight for safety, nor did they fight for security.
    They fought for freedom.
We still represent freedom to the rest of the world, but meanwhile, at home, we are throwing it away.

One of the Seventy, he was Bishop in Damascus. In response to a vision from God, he baptised Saul, the future Apostle Paul (Acts 9), and courageously preached the Gospel in the face of all persecution, for which he was stoned to death in the city of Eleutheropolis. His holy relics were taken to Damascus, and later to Constantinople.
