Yes, but which one has the more corruption, China or PR? Have spent 3 weeks in PR and had lots of face time with the locals. Would very much prefer to spend taxpayer money on promoting their independence movement than supporting infrastructure development.

Puerto Rico is still a democratic territory of the United States under the full control of the US government, production in Puerto Rico would be far preferable to China, even the with the current corruption in Puerto Rico.

        • I worked in Puerto Rico for several years and it is a beautiful place … but the fact that it is not the 51st US State is sometimes painfully obvious. And yet, many local people resist this because they fear the impact on their speaking of the Spanish language, which they consider to be part of their heritage. (Many but not all residents also speak English, but day to day they speak Spanish by choice.) The question of “Statehood” has been debated endlessly.

They keep their US Passports proudly, and you can be damned sure they bring them along and keep them very close at hand when they visit “the Mainland!”

          • P.S.: For example, an acquaintance who was visiting relatives in Texas came upon a border patrol traffic stop and then had to very patiently explain her way out of the fact that she spoke fluent Spanish but was nonetheless the valid possessor of a US Passport. For a little while, the intrepid and over-zealous officer was prepared to accuse her of having a forged document … until she politely asked him to look it up on his computer, and he did. She had to explain that Puerto Rico was “part of the United States.” This is a not-uncommon scenario.

Not everything smells like roses in Puerto Rico. How does a newly established company deal with a seriously corrupt government used to squeeze everybody, including the very population that puts them in power, and unions bosses who don’t care about anybody but themselves, as clearly demonstrated by their abysmal failure to distribute urgent supplies to the population after a major hurricane … unless their crooked $$$ demands were met first?

Where does is it enumerated in the Constitution that the federal government can own territory? It doesn’t…10 sq miles for a capital/forts/ports. To hold PR as a territory is unconstitutional – either they are admitted as a State or they are on their own.

Besides – we want the companies and their business back in the States.

      Like

      • Bert Darrell says:

To be admitted as a state, Puerto Rico’s citizens must first approve becoming a U.S. state. To-date, every single vote by PR citizens has been negative in that respect. They seem to be happy remaining a territory. I very much doubt they can be forced.

I believe the tidal difference at Martha’s Vineyard is less than 2 feet. If Obammy’s mansion is 10 feet above sea level, then at high tide the house is 9 feet above the ocean. At low tide it would be 11 feet above the ocean. You have lunar tides which are higher. If we all pray hard enough, a hurricane that parks itself off Orient Point, Long Island for a day should raise the Atlantic enough to send Obammy to Atlantis or Davey Jones Locker.

From reading your short paragraph I can see you have the ability to present information concisely. Perhaps you could do the research and either write an article yourself or gift the research to a professional writer. Reposting a response to commenter “Spectre” from the last page. Spectre feels as though POTUS’ tweets about Jerome Powell today show a lack of control and bad temperament by POTUS. I disagree.

    “No, you’re wrong.

You don’t see the strategy, which is ok. But just because you don’t see the strategy does not mean there is not a strategy.

    This is calculated, a plan.

That doesn’t mean the plan will work, but believing the tweets and the actions demonstrate a “complete lack of control and temperance” evidences that you do not understand that there is a strategy, or what the strategy is.

POTUS is pushing Powell where he wants him to be. He knows what Powell can and cannot do.

We are at war when we say we are at war. The enemy is who we say the enemy is. (this is in reference to a supposed rule on the books about the administration telling companies who they can and cannot deal with; meaning China here)

Think outside the box here. Don’t be hemmed in with constrained thinking.

Above all, trust POTUS. He is a brilliant strategist and is executing a deliberate plan here. Thinking this is some childish reaction by him is a misreading of the situation, IMO.”

The government also prints out more than one million work permits for foreigners, tolerates about eight million illegal workers, and rarely punishes companies for employing the hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants who sneak across the border or overstay their legal visas each year.”

    And there are two tells.
    1. Aircraft now included. But only business jets and helicopters, NOT big Boeings because China has no where to turn.
    2. Now includes autos. US exports $9 billion, but only 230k vehicles, all high end luxury. The companies mainly hit are Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes.

Libertarians are not conservative and those that are conservative really aren’t libertarian. The libertarian model is one that embraces freedom to the level of immorality in many areas. They believe that when our founders said we have the right to the pursuit of happiness that it meant that we could pursue whatever made us happy. It’s a very ignorant position as the term “pursuit of happiness” in colonial times did not have that same meaning. Our founders said that our government was designed for a religious and moral people and would not work for anything else. And, back then it was believed that true happiness came by living a holy life honorable to God. The settlers to our land fled religious persecution and the founders were focused on peoples’ ability to freely pursue a life of holiness without the government controlling it. To pursue happiness in colonial times meant to pursue a holy life.

If you are truly a libertarian, then you can’t agree with that because the embracing of “live and let live” and the immorality that comes with it flies in the face of pursuing living a holy life following God’s commands. But, if you agree with moral restrictions in society chances are you’re really not a true libertarian.

Why use this strategy on China? US cannot trust Communists economically because of political agenda and Communism cannot compete fairly due to inherent stupidity of central planning. Government of Germany sees its economy sliding into recession.

The Federal Chancellery is expecting a continued downturn in the German economy this year. “For the third quarter is again a slight decline in gross domestic product and thus a technical recession,” according to SPIEGEL information in a draft of the Chancellery.

In the second quarter, economic output had already shrunk by 0.1 percent compared with the previous quarter. The experts of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) now expect a similar decline for the period from July to October. According to a common definition, a recession occurs when the economy shrinks for two consecutive quarters. “A number of leading indicators that signal well into the second half of the year suggest that the weak industrial climate is likely to continue.”

As a positive, the bill emphasizes that the domestic economy is still intact. “A serious crisis of the German economy is nevertheless not to be expected, as long as the trade disputes do not escalate and there is no unregulated Brexit “, it continues in the submission. “For short-term economic stabilization measures, we therefore see no reason.”

Chancellor officials hope that at the end of the year, the bottom line will still be a minimal plus in economic growth. In the first quarter of 2019, the economy grew by 0.4 percent.

    • So … when is Germany, too, going to wake up and say: “Germany FIRST!” ???

It’s sheer stupidity to stake your nation’s entire future on “non-elected politicians in Brussels.” The only strategy that actually works, and that actually survives the test of adversity, is one in which every nation, simultaneously and without apology, strives to put its own national self-interests first. “This is a game, really a fight to the death, and there can only be one winner, and that winner’s gonna be me.” Each and every time, every nation that walks up to that negotiating table is out for blood. And, every nation knows this in advance.

“Yes, I like you. Your nation is a really nice nation. Now, you are gonna die. Sorry …”

The markets are going to go crazy and I hope people don’t get caught up in that. China is in an economic war with us and our survival is at stake.

China has fallen into President Trump’s trap. There will be major disinvestment in China and the Chinese economy will suffer for decades, if not centuries because of it.

By himself, President Trump is re-orienting the entire global trade structure.

I was watching John Solomon on Gorka’s radio show from the 21st. He mentioned that
a week before PDJT’s inauguration, Flynn and his expected deputy received a letter from a couple of British intel folks. In the letter, they stated you guys will probably find out some things about us.
They wanted to make clear that the Brits weren’t doing this on their own, they were being asked.
Supposedly, Congressional folks knew about this way back then. Did we already know this?

If Ruth Ginsberg die due to cancer any day now, then PDJT can appoint another supreme court justice. PDJT is the chosen one. Lots of head exploding…. I believe.

    • I seem to remember that President Trump said not long after Kavanaugh that he would be appointing at least one more SCJ, maybe two. I noted it at the time because he said it with such surety…..I wonder what he knew/knows that we don’t?

The long-time SCOTUS member completed a three-week course of stereotactic ablative radiation therapy at Sloan Kettering in NYC on Friday.

The focused radiation treatment began on Aug. 5 and was administered on an outpatient basis, according to a statement from SCOTUS. The tumor was first detected after a routine blood test in early July, and a biopsy performed on July 31 at Sloan Kettering confirmed the tumor was malignant.
