FTA – President Trump will move Wednesday to cancel the family “loophole” that’s allowed illegal-immigrant parents and children to pour into the U.S., proposing new rules that would replace the 2015 Flores Settlement court order that created a de facto catch-and-release policy for the families. According to details provided by an administration official, migrant families could be held in detention together while their cases are heard by immigration judges. That would supersede the 20-day limit imposed by the federal judge in Flores. If the families can be held in detention, they can be deported, security experts say, and once people in Central America see an increase in deportations, they’ll stop coming.

      • Right now, there is a thriving international business of human trafficking. It exists because of the way that our immigration laws are intentionally written. Many nations besides our own are willing to look the other way as unimaginable human rights abuses are heaped onto the heads of these Les Miserables. These are not really “immigrants,” folks, and they’re not really “seeking asylum.” They’re victims of hideous crimes – crimes that exist because “there are none so blind.”

Why don’t we begin to frame this issue using these terms?

Well, the first order of business would be to shut the trafficking down here. Seems like Trump is working on that, but unfortunately, our Congress is complicit in the trafficking. Some of them with first hand experience it appears.

          • Exactly so. And they’ve been doing it for decades. The 13th Amendment may have been passed in 1865, but today we use our immigration law to skate around it, re-creating both slavery and indentured servitude. And, it is deliberate. Lots of money in it. Lots of money. Plenty enough to buy Congressmen and Senators.

Those nations allowing the pass through are not just looking the other way, they collect a “transit tax” from the human traffickers, just as they have done for years from the narcotics and prescription drug (legal and illegal) traffickers.

It will be a very useful step, but in my opinion, nothing would help the problem as much as properly interpreting the XIVth Amendment; if people who come to America believe they can just drop a baby who will become by definition an American citizen, and entitled to all the rights (and benefits) of same, they will continue to pour in.

It is equivalent to someone breaking a window to sneak into your house, delivering their baby on your living room rug, and you then being required to put that baby’s name on the deed to your house and also support them and their progeny for life. Ridiculous. Nonsense. Unconstitutional. And completely in contravention of the direct language of the Congressmen who passed the XIVth Amendment, they were concerned that it would be abused in such a way, and were assured that it would not.

Since 1982, 37 years, since one little stupid comment in dicta, not even the ruling itself, bastardized how we treat the foreign national babies born here of foreign nationals. With American citizens screaming about it the entire time.

This giving away of our country is being done intentionally. I see it as a bigger draw even than the bennies, the jobs, the drug cartels/gangs, etc., because they know that with enough time, these foreign national babies (now grand-babies and great grand-babies) are given a LEGAL VOTE. When will we have an Anchor Baby as President? THAT should scare you (such as the children of Ilhan Omar). !!!!

Here’s an idea. Replace immigration judges with a panel of American citizens (like jury duty). This panel is in place for a week and hears the whiners for asylum make their case. Then orders them to “go home.” Regular Americans have much more at stake than an immigration judge.

BTW – where in the Constitution is “immigration” enumerated to the federal government?

10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

                A quote from the above:
Joe Biden was lying on the operating table and about to get surgery for his second brain aneurysm when the doctor told him he might not recover.

“What’s the most likely thing that will happen if I live?” Biden asked him. “Well,” the doctor replied, “the side of the brain that the first aneurysm is on controls your ability to speak.”

That’s when the gaffe-prone Biden thought to himself: “Why in the hell didn’t they tell me this before the ’88 campaign?’ It could’ve saved us all a lot of trouble, you know what I mean?”

That joke, which Biden told in a speech in 2013, has taken on new relevance now that he’s on the campaign trail for president again and facing questions about his gaffes. Though Biden has had a longstanding reputation for verbal flubs, they’re now inextricably linked to the 76-year-old’s age.

A few years ago I was tasked with trying to train approx 50 people under age 35 to use critical thinking in their job performance – a skill which was of supreme importance in that professional setting. After days of various exercises it became astonishingly clear to me that these young adults had absolutely NO concept of this skill, and seemingly no ability to attain it. It was as if that part of their brains was atrophied. My conclusion was that our dismal education system had attained it’s goal.

The Democrats, meanwhile, are pandering about – “business as usual” for them – as though nothing at all happened in 2016. I hate to tell them that in 2020 they’re going to have to have a candidate. Right now, they don’t … and apparently they don’t know it, and/or don’t care. Kinda painful to watch, really. In 2016 DJT was an unknown quantity, now he has a successful track record. It should be easier to find the disengaged and convince them to vote. The movie: a synopsis–Obama is casting aspersions on white collar workers: As if Pres Trump would allow this. I know #DemScum would

      I quote:

“The streaming service promises “a deep dive into a post-industrial Ohio, where a Chinese billionaire [Cao Dewang] opens a new [car glass] factory in the husk of an abandoned General Motors plant and hires 2,000 blue-collar Americans.”

Still, “early days of hope and optimism give way to setbacks as high-tech China clashes with working-class America,” according to Netflix’s official plot synopsis.

“They refer to us as the foreigners,” one downtrodden worker at the Fuyao factory says in the film. The twist: The worker is American — not Chinese — and finds it hard to reconcile his new working life under “Chairman Cao.”

The blue-collar community looked forward to the 2014 reopening of the factory, bringing jobs back into the region that struggled after the plant’s closure in 2008. But bitter disappointment set in as Fuyao’s management style exhausted plant employees — both American and Chinese. The transition is marked by slipping wages, layoffs of American middle managers and heightened nationalism among Chinese managers and staff.

Let’s stop the euphemisms. These aren’t “refugees” that are “seeking asylum.” These aren’t “caravans.” These are brutal abuses tantamount to the slave trade. Let’s stare this in the face, call it by its true name, acknowledge the part that our own laws have played in facilitating it, and stop it.

I do agree it might get more traction if we focus on and highlight the “slave” ships or flights.
(How the COC and “evil” corporations take advantage, and they do, but even more so with the legal visas)

From my view, even everyday dems want an end to the madness. It is mostly the paid off politicians who advocate open borders. (So your suggestion of shaming them publicly for slavery is right on)

  25. Recession?
The professional liars at WAPO floated a baby ruth in our pool recently reporting that “Unnamed White House Officials” are discussing payroll tax reductions to “head off a possible economic slowdown”. Wow that’s overwhelming evidence indeed. Time to make a run on the banks and set up some soup lines!

Recession by definition is 2 consecutive quarters of economic CONTRACTION. Our quarterly GDP numbers are softening but still beating expectations ( https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/gdp-growth ) and with the exception of the weird print in Jan 2019 still very strong.

What we have here is a failure to communicate- mostly by uneducated parrots and simple minded news consumers. In short this is another “If we build it they will come” attempt by the Leftists to redefine reality into something that is not conforming to the truth- kinda like Hillary’s presidential polls. They reason that in spite of a measurable wealth increase from Trump economic policies the chattering class can jawbone the economy into a recession and Presto! defeat Trump in 2020.

The Fed’s premature rate increase was, IMO, designed to throttle the amazing growth we were enjoying under Trump’s leadership. Additionally we did get a little ahead of ourselves investing and spending. We needed a little digestive break. (Bull runs in the economy are stair steps up and bear runs are elevators down. That’s due to the to main attributes off human investing: Fear and Greed.)

I’d like to see another tax cut- in payrolls, income, and corporate. I’d like to see a tax credit for capital equipment purchases. I’d like to see a 5 year depreciation schedule for real estate. I’d like to see second home deductions- for purchase, improvement and interest expenses. In a perfect world I’d like to see zero corporate and trust income tax. I’d also like to see the Fed obliterated and Congress retake the authority of coining money it ceded in 1913. I’d also like zero income tax. Productivity should never be penalized. Tarriffs could run our Government. Of course it would have to go on a diet. Oh the humanity!!!

What refreshes me is that in our (sort of) free markets money is the irresistible force and it cares not about the whims of deconstructionist leftists. The US is growing in wealth in spite of the mess in China, the goo in the EU, and the contractions in Canada. We are growing because productivity is being rewarded under Trump and will continue to be.

    • America will “grow” because – and to the extent that – America produces. It won’t grow because of financial numbers and knobs. It will grow because it will once again employ Americans to make things in America for Americans to consume. There’s absolutely nothing complicated about it. It’s just that for about fifty years we stopped doing it – we propped-up every other economy but our own – and then we wondered where our “prosperity” had gone.

It’s a myth to say that the “prime interest rate” is the motivation for borrowing and that it’s a magic knob that controls a nation’s economy. If people perceive something that is worth investing in, they’ll borrow the money with which to do it. What Trump is now doing is to create those opportunities. The people who committed John Ruskin’s error and “considered price alone,” investing in China and not the USA, will get slaughtered. Domestic producers will have advantages they can’t match. While they’re literally “waiting for their ship to come in,” their more-nimble domestic competitors are stealing their business.

Chief Investment Officer of Largest US Public Pension Fund Has Deep Ties to Chinese Regime
    July 8, 2019 Updated: July 11, 2019

    https://www.theepochtimes.com/chief-investment-officer-of-us-largest-public-pension-fund-has-deep-ties-to-chinese-regime_2992183.html

Newly discovered deep ties between the chief investment officer (CIO) of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and the Chinese government, along with CalPERS’s China investment holdings, have provoked controversy about the operations of the largest public retirement fund in the United States.

CalPERS manages more than $350 billion for public employees either retired from or currently working for most of the state and local public agencies in California.

The fund holds tens of millions of shares in equities of Chinese companies. Among other things, these companies develop advanced weapons for China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and, according to one expert, are involved in unethical business practices and human rights abuses, including the concentration camps holding Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

According to a 2017 report by People’s Daily, the official mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), CalPERS’s current CIO, Yu “Ben” Meng, as of 2015 was a participant in the Chinese government’s prestigious headhunting program called the Thousand Talents Plan (TTP).
