Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Are you in L.A., Citizen? I grew up down there and live in northern California now. There is a tremendous problem in San Francisco, which is much smaller than Los Angeles and the neighboring Oakland, as well. The politicians have no will to fix the homeless situation, or

don’t know how. They hardly talk about it. President Trump is correct about opening the mental hospitals back yp.
Most of these people need help.
Meanwhile, resources go to a large, mostly illegal immigrant population, which is further protected by San Francisco and Oakland’s sanctuary city policy. I am further north, but the homeless have an encampment up here too, although not so large.
Liberals here seem to fear infringing on the homeless’ civil liberties…I would not let a dog live that way.
We are totally controlled by dems now. Almost impossible to get a Republican on the ballet, and the greedy dems us ballet harvesting to change election results.Look out.

I just saw a story about an increase in leprosy in LA.

I wonder….other countries see what has happened to our major cities, do people in those lands WANT what we have?

Back in the 50s, I can certainly see other nations thinking, “we need to adopt THAT kind of system” but today, I can see other nations RUNNING AS FAST AS THEY CAN from what we have.

    Continue Thou

“Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse…but continue thou” (II Tim.3:13,14).

These were among the last words of the great Apostle Paul, written in view of his approaching martyrdom, to Timothy, his beloved son in the faith.

Circumstances, outwardly, were anything but encouraging. It seemed that the last days of the dispensation of grace were indeed at hand. The apostle had borne many “persecutions” and “afflictions” and now “suffered trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds”. There were those who, like Jannes and Jambres, had “resisted the truth” (Verse 8). “Alexander the coppersmith” had done him “much evil” and had “greatly withstood his words” (4:14,15). “Evil men and seducers” had risen on every hand and were to “wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (IITim.3:13).

There was even defection among his own brethren in the faith, so that now, from his Roman prison, he had to report: “All they which are in Asia have turned away from me…Demas hath forsaken me…only Luke is with me” (IITim.1:15; 4:10,11).

And what, now, is his parting advice to young Timothy? Does he say: “Perhaps I have been too intense. My methods have made many enemies. I advise you to be more diplomatic and tolerant than I have been”. Hardly, for the records show Paul to have been of all men most tactful and considerate. His sufferings were not the result of a contentious spirit, but of his faithfulness in proclaiming that message which so embarrasses and enrages “our adversary, the devil”, that message which is God’s gracious response to man’s need and His answer to Satan’s slander — “the gospel of the grace of God”.

Thus it is that the Apostle urges Timothy: “Continue thou…be not ashamed…be strong”. He well knew that in this sin-cursed world the only hope for the individual is to be found in God’s offer of salvation through faith in the redemption wrought by Christ at Calvary.

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
    14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

2 Timothy 4:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:
15 Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

2 Timothy 1:15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

My fav chanteuse is Edith Piaf, I have her works on vinyl and CD and can listen to them over and over. I used to play her in my office when I had a load of work and needed something to keep me grounded, people would stop in to ask me who she was, they’d never heard her.

I ‘discovered’ her in Germany in the early 60s, there were bars with lots of ex-Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe, some in the postwar Heer and Luftwaffe, who’d loved her. She, like Marlene Dietrich, appealed to soldiers on all sides.

    • I did watch. I usually watch pilot episodes, to see if I’ll enjoy the series. I disagree completely with the review you linked to. He show mocks TELEVANGELISTS, NOT Christians generally, the kind of rich mega church moguls who fleece their flocks, then keep and squander the money. And I thought it was downright hilarious. Such an over-the-top, clueless family of tasteless, arrogant thieves and liars, with John Goodman as their patriarch.

It helps to keep in mind that the show is created by, written by, directed by and co-stars Danny McBride, whose previous two shows “Eastbound and Down” and “Vice Principals” featured the same style of wicked, unbridled satire. All three shows are designed to ridicule HYPOCRITES, in baseball, education and religion. The plots and jokes are about how their misdeeds cause their downfall. As an audience, you root for these characters to LOSE. To me, that’s a clever spin. Of course satire isn’t to everyone’s taste.

    A look back.

FTA: Although largely forgotten today, during the 1930s and 1940s my grandmother, Eunice Carter, was one of the most prominent black women in the United States.

At a time when so much was closed to those of her race and gender, she accomplished extraordinary things. She was a prosecutor in New York City, where she helped convict Lucky Luciano, the nation’s most powerful mobster.

Eunice was a tireless campaigner for women’s rights. She even warned of the evils of what we now call sexual harassment back in the 1930s, when few people imagined that the treatment of women in the workplace mattered.

At the same time, she was a prominent Republican, heavily involved in national and local campaigns.

How wonderful! Thanks so much for posting this. There are thousands of stories out there which can inspire us, especially our youth.

It comes from within, of course…that desire to succeed and prosper. That yearning, however, also needs to be nourished by a society and a family structure which expects that talents and gifts will be used to better oneself and others.

Such a person must also be encouraged NOT to look at herself as primarily a victim even though she may be victimized. She will be cheered on to think of herself as an overcomer, a person who triumphs over adversity, and who works toward that end each day.

“Come unto Me.” Matthew xi. 28

God means us to live a fully-orbed life in Christ Jesus, but there are times when that life is attacked from the outside, and we tumble into a way of introspection which we thought had gone. Self-consciousness is the first thing that will upset the completeness of the life in God, and self-consciousness continually produces wrestling. Self-consciousness is not sin; it may be produced by a nervous temperament or by a sudden dumping down into new circumstances. It is never God’s will that we should be anything less than absolutely complete in Him. Anything that disturbs rest in Him must be cured at once, and it is not cured by being ignored, but by coming to Jesus Christ. If we come to Him and ask Him to produce Christ-consciousness, He will always do it until we learn to abide in Him.

Never allow the dividing up of your life in Christ to remain without facing it. Beware of leakage, of the dividing up of your life by the influence of friends or of circumstances; beware of anything that is going to split up your oneness with Him and make you see yourself separately. Nothing is so important as to keep right spiritually. The great solution is the simple one – “Come unto Me.” The depth of our reality, intellectually, morally and spiritually, is tested by these words. In every degree in which we are not real, we will dispute rather than come.
