        • My opinions have never changed. “Yes, you have the right to keep and bear arms.” But you also have the responsibility that goes with it. And, you are surrounded by other citizens (each with the same Constitutional rights as you) whose various rights must simultaneously be considered … including the right to “domestic Tranquility.”

So, suddenly the total issue moves well beyond “twenty-seven handwritten words” and becomes something that we have debated since the day they were penned in a very hot Philadelphia meeting room behind closed doors.

Some available weapons are “safe and appropriate” for ordinary civilian use; some are exactly the opposite. (Some weapons can shoot through an ordinary house and kill someone on the other side.)

Nevertheless, the Founders knew that “the Common Defense” is both institutional and personal. Thus, they provided for institutions such as armies and police forces, and the self-defense provided by individuals. They left it to all of us to find the necessary balance between the many rights that they guaranteed and the responsibilities that go with each one.

We should ban a firearm if it fires a round that can go through a house?

What kind of house? Brick? Stucco? How many walls? Just the external wall on each side, or would the criteria include an inside wall or two?

TLDemocrat, re “through a house”, in case folks may not be aware, if you choose a handgun for home defense there are ammunition choices which solve this eventuality for most common calibers of hand guns.
Such ammunition is designed to fragment when hitting any hard surface, yes, to include drywall.
Most recently recommended this ammunition for church defense, and it is crucial for those living in apartment housing.
You can investigate this option on any site which sells ammunition.

You are referencing frangible bullets which disintegrate in the intended target (unless you miss). They are available in standard calibers. The original poster does not want to restrict me to using frangible bullets in my 9mm, he wants to take my 9mm, but will let me buy a pistol that shoots only frangible rounds. Infringement!

So you only think we should own arms that cannot penetrate drywall and a layer of vinyl siding. That would pretty much leave us with BB guns.

Your words strike me as eloquent gun grabbing. You either know nothing about weaponry or are trying to persuade those who don’t. The “living document” approach has always been used to nullify our inalienable rights . The intent of the Second Amendment is clear.

We need our arms for the day the government decides it has the power to take them away. We will no longer stand for incremental confiscation through contorted or deceptive reasoning. Give in on the Second Amendment and the rest soon fall.

“Later that day, Harris, Weaver, and his daughter, Sarah, left the cabin, allegedly for the purpose of preparing Sammy’s body for burial. FBI sharpshooter Lon Horiuchi, waiting 200 yards away, opened fire, allegedly because he thought Harris was armed and intending to fire on a helicopter in the vicinity. Horiuchi wounded Weaver, and the group ran to the shed where Sammy’s body was lying. When they attempted to escape back into the cabin, Horiuchi fired again, wounding Harris as he dove through the door and killing Vicki Weaver, who was holding the door open with one hand and cradling her infant daughter with the other. Horiuchi claimed he didn’t know that Vicki Weaver was standing behind the door. Harris, Weaver, and Weaver’s three daughters surrendered nine days later.”

Seems to me that if the government can use weaponry bought with my tax-dollars to shoot and kill an innocent civilian through a door, then I should be able to defend myself against the government with a like weapon. How else can I deter tyranny?

The 2nd Amendment does NOT give citizens the “right to keep and bear arms”…this a natural right. The 2nd Amendment instructs the federal government that it “shall not infringe” my right to keep and bear arms. As I’ve mentioned many times, each sovereign State may decide the level of “domestic tranquility” you speak of. This allows me to “use my feet” and decide what level of “domestic tranquility” is best for me and my family.

The 10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” This Amendment provides the “necessary balance between the many rights.”

Notice the gun grabbers always start with the “premise” that the Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms. Soon followed by an infringement….something like “but not any arms”

People love to ignore the “well-regulated militia” part.

But though the scheme of disciplining the whole nation must be abandoned as mischievous or impracticable; yet it is a matter of the utmost importance that a well-digested plan should, as soon as possible, be adopted for the proper establishment of the militia. The attention of the government ought particularly to be directed to the formation of a select corps of moderate extent, upon such principles as will really fit them for service in case of need. By thus circumscribing the plan, it will be possible to have an excellent body of well-trained militia, ready to take the field whenever the defense of the State shall require it. (Federalist 29)

If we’re going to reference the Second Amendment we should do so completely.

Not sure your point? But I’ll bite.

The federal government pretty much abolished State militias via the Militia Act of 1903. Now States have a National Guard which is under federal control. By the way, this act is unconstitutional since “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State” means that EACH sovereign state has the right to defend itself. No law can change the Constitution…changes are made via the constitutional amendment process.

First step to globalism/socialism/feudalism: disarm the States in 1903.

Second step: disarm the people…pending success of Mike Robinson’s persuasive use of arbitrary terms like “constitutional rights,” “domestic tranquility,” “safe and appropriate,” “some weapons can shoot through an ordinary house and kill someone on the other side,” and the catch-all: “the necessary balance between the many rights that they guaranteed and the responsibilities that go with each one.”

IMHO – History in general, and our specific history indicates the obvious: the globalists/socialists/feudalists want us disarmed. MR says yes. I say no!

I think Judge Thomas Hardiman understands the 2A very well. He said, “The only gun law needed is the Second Amendment”. Didn’t say anything about “balancing” it or adding “common sense gun laws” to it. Huh! Wonder why the Fathers didn’t either.

Worse, is the implication that government, the very body the 2A is in place to protect us from, should decide which guns are “safe and appropriate” for us to have.

There is great danger in using civil defense as justification to protect the Second Amendment. For example the government could say… “fine, you do not need to own the weapons or ammunition, we will buy them and keep them safe in the armory until they a civil defense crisis arises. ”

Our Founders would be shooting by now.

History is replete with examples of Governments disarming their own citizens before imposing central rule, internment and/or genocide. Our right has been infringed upon already, to excess.

Hong King citizens are not in the streets as an act of civil defense, it is an act to defend their rights against a tyrannical government. But, their inalienable right to bear arms was taken from them by that same government.

I listened to the interview on FBN, and that is not what was said. The round table said that corporations also have a duty to the communities where they operate and have facilities. This is a restatement of the old Bush II’s Civil or Kinder Gentler Capitalism. They specifically said that they have an obligation to their shareholders yet, the shareholders and the corporation owe something to the community and less fortunate.

Profitability and share holder equity are still a priority. NWO wants to have command of the entire chain, resources to factory to the market place as well as naming winners, losers and who is allowed to succeed as where it all was headed under Obama.

Doesn’t it seem odd that these “Right Wingers” were there to protest or make some sort of statement and not fight ?? Yet, CNN targeted them for Antifa as well as goaded Antifa to attack them, during an entire day of Right vs Left brewing fight.

Every image shown by the media shows Antifa attacking people carrying signs or riding vehicles.

Russia, racism and now recession. The three Rs the opposition, including the media have been counting on to defeat Trump 2020.

Without Russia, racism and definitely without recession, it means Reelection for Donald J. Trump. MAGA!!

Actually Fox News is attempting to spin age into being an issue. Their banners are pointing out ages of Biden, Warren, Bernie and others as they make gaff’s in public. The implication being these old codgers are not mentally up to the task at hand and are very prone to major mistakes due to their ages. It’s only a matter of time before the President’s age is used.

    https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2019/08/election_2020_its_the_crowds_stupid.html

FTA “I suggest another metric to gauge voter enthusiasm, crowd size. As we are in campaign mode, all of the candidates are holding campaign rallies around the country. Trump was famous for holding massive rallies in 2016, several in one day, as election day drew near. In fact, on the day before the 2016 election, Trump held five rallies in five states, his last one running into the wee hours of election morning.”

Crowd size does matter. And 700 people showing up for Fauxcahontas is not a crowd this is a crowd! Godspeed President Trump!

      I wouldn’t grow complacent over Trump’s crowds.

Democrats are excellent propagandists and have become the “default” party for the politically uninformed.

low-info voters don’t attend rallies, which is why Democrat town halls are always such snooze-fests.

This is also why so many states were razor-thin for Trump last election.

The “resistance” has primed and tested their ballot harvesters and has never been this pissed at an incumbent in living memory (yes, this includes Reagan), so make sure you have friends and family lined up to support him at the polls, particularly in swing-states and contestable congressional districts.

Do NOT trust the mail, show up in person and watch it hit the secured boxes.

First we’re an exceptional country not because of our wealth but because our FREEDOMS & unalienable rights come from GOD and not some bureaucrats! I guess they don’t know at the New York Times the wealth generated in this country by slavery was primarily in the South which was destroyed during the Civil War. They need to read Sherman’s March to the Sea and destruction his army did to the South! The South really didn’t recover until during WWII. The great wealth of this country was created during the American Industrial Revolution in the decades following the Civil War. The industrial revolution occurred primarily in the Northeast which had freed the slaves even before the Civil War. So Daniel Pipes is exactly right their ignorance and revisionism is vile, racist and not supported by any historical facts!

Sorry but this is just not true. Coolies and Navvies, that is to say Chinese and Irish built America. Plus loads of other immigrants. The slaves, sorry this is uncomfortable, picked cotton. King cotton is important, just ask my ancestors from Northern Britain, but not that big of a deal.

Poor Brits SPUN cotton, it entered your lungs and they said you didn’t need to eat, it served as food. They worked 15 hours a day and 7 days a week. From childhood.

The larger question is how does a 90+ year old woman living in “inhumane conditions” in “Palestine” know anything about US domestic politics and Donald Trump for that matter? Why not condemn Israel? After all it is Israel that is “preventing” her beloved “granddaughter” from visiting her – for THIRTEEN – years, right? Does anyone else find that at least strange?

1689 British Bill of Rights, historical precedent for US 2nd amendment.

    https://avalon.law.yale.edu/17th_century/england.asp

Our founders knew what they were writing. They had history. Some 2nd amendment related excerpts:
    By causing several good subjects being Protestants to be disarmed at the same time when papists were both armed and employed contrary to law;

The 1689 bill of rights remedy:
    That the subjects which are Protestants may have arms for their defence suitable to their conditions and as allowed by law;

Notice how our founders changed “which are Protestants” to all people. Notice also, “as allowed by law” was changed to “shall not be infringed”.

This is a good retort to those who say it was a govt militia they were taking about. No, subjects are individuals.

Our founders specifically wrote our 2nd amendment as an improvement on the 1689 British Bill of Rights.

Consider that the algorithmic, super computer traders are using “Headline” based algorithms (in place of actual empirical data) to drive the market through these wild swings. It has a dual purpose; first is to attempt to discredit the President and give the “experts” something to use and second to stampede the week minded to create “deals” and line their pockets or portfolios.

It’s likely the closest thing to insider trader one can find. The MSM creates the headline based on a statement from the administration or some international event, the VIX goes wild and opportunities are created. The President knows how to play this game as well but the only downside is often the algorithmic-machine traders gain as well.

Ever notice the lack of volatility on the Honk Kong Market, with all the turmoil there.

Curious cat on all of it.
