Sunday July 21st – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

The Lord Jesus Christ commands that His church be doctrinally and morally pure.
That was His message to the seven churches in Revelation.
Two thousand years later it is still His command.

Hi Frank – glad to know the series blessed you!
Unusual for me, as I usually only post Mondays and Thursdays.
The Spirit’s prompting to do this this way, however, was unmistakeable.

    The Living God

“My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God” (Psa. 42:2).

The recent “God is dead” theory had little true comfort or satisfaction for men in trouble or sorrow.

For years we supposed that the term “the living God,” in the above passage, had reference to God’s power to help, in contrast to the impotence of dead heathen idols. A careful examination of the context, however, leads us to believe that it has rather to do with His ability to respond. The gods of the heathen, by contrast, were like children’s dolls; they could not even change their countenance or respond in any way.

“The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

    “They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;

“They have ears, but they hear not, neither is there any breath in their mouths” (Psa. 135:15-17).

But the true God is a living God. He does see, hear and respond. The Psalmist, in Psalm 42, compares himself to a stag, panting with thirst. It is sometimes supposed that the scene is one of a stag pursued in the chase, but the passage says nothing of this. Palestine is a dry land and entirely apart from being hunted down, a deer might well pant for streams of running water.

Be this as it may, the stag, in this passage, is not seeking for help; he is thirsting for refreshment, and so did the Psalmist long for the refreshment of fellowship with God, the living God.

How wonderful it is that we may know the living God through faith in Christ! This is why the Apostle Paul declares in Heb. 10:19:

“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus… a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us through the veil, that is to say, His flesh. “

By His death at Calvary our Lord tore away the veil that kept us from entering into God’s presence, and now in response to our need He says:

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16).

Yes, God is a living God!

    • As a native Oklahoman, ‘Okie’ is no longer the slur that it was during Steinbeck’s time, and “The Grapes of Wrath” era. You could even call an acquaintance an Okie without them taking offense.

That said, I wish the nasty gash would just leave it off her bio, entirely. We don’t claim her, and we don’t want anything to do with a damned Dim. Oklahoma is proud that all of its 77 counties voted for PDJT in 2016. And, in 2012 every single county voted against BHO. And, in 2008, Oklahomans displayed good sense by every county again voting against O’zero. All 77 counties voted against Al Gore, in 2004, too,

There have only been 3 instances since statehood, that Oklahoma has even voted for a Democrat President (FDR, Truman, and LBJ). Oklahoma City was the largest city that voted for PDJT, in the entire United States. (Even Dallas voted for Hillary.)

Sadly, while we’ve got a great voting record, our past history means that there probably won’t be any Trump Rallies in our future.

As far as I know there can’t be any racial slurs aimed at whites as, by progressive definition, the only ones who can be racist are those who hat ‘The Power’. As minorities don’t have ‘The Power’ they can’t be racist so whatever they say cannot be construed as racist. On the other hand those of European extraction have The Power and therefore anything and everything that comes out of their mouths is racist. see what a degree in Sociology can get you?

“. . . the only ones who can be racist are those who hat ‘The Power’. As minorities don’t have ‘The Power’ they can’t be racist . . .” Racism is a social psychological state in which someone is hated simply because of their race. Critical Race Theory seeks to excuse Black people’s feelings and expressions of racism by concocting this new Marxist derived definition. Racism is not an Anglo-Saxon disease, it is a social-psychological condition based on irrational beliefs.

Love this song! I’ve heard and sang this song all my life. It was written by Bro Claude Ely, who was an amazing Preacher and songwriter from SW VA. My Grandfather was friends with him and he and my mother sang with Bro Ely many, many times. Many people/bands have recorded this song and this is a good version, but IMO none can hold a candle to the original, especially during a service when the Lord and the Holy Ghost is moving.

I had been hoping that the snatching and illegal separation of American children by CPS from their families would finally receive more attention. Not only are American children at grave risk to become confined in questionable foster homes in this country – but may also be sent to another country for adoption.

I am not concerned about the Red Whines from the Democrats’ Bigot Squads. The Health and welfare of Americans and our children must come first – not for a replacement population of people who want to kill us. We must stop the ethnic cleansing of America, and it must begin with our children.

Ah yessssss, CPS with its questionable, if not UnConstitutional, abduction of children on subjective grounds.

We had issues in the city with foster homes, it’s a mini-industry where kids are ripped from their homes and folks are paid to mind them. One of the major problems is that as resources thin the amounts of money available dry up and the foster parents can’t realize a profit anymore – or at least as big of a one as they’d like. CPS doesn’t have the bodies to adequately police the children placed, we saw some homes that had not been visited for months, and CPS become an official government abuser that polices itself – badly – and isn’t about to amit it screwed up. It’s wrong to neglect/sabuse your own children but the government can do so as policy.

We deal directly with the government on these matters and they are ruthless in destroying families. If you have a brush with them at any point during a child’s development age they want to take that kid and destroy them. It is as if the devil himself is running these programs.
Be a good parent and do not put your child’s life in jeopardy by being stupid with drugs or alcohol.

In retrospect, don’t know if I could have tolerated the crowded and messy/muddy environment, in spite of the great musicians who performed. Of course, when we are young, our tolerance level is much higher. Still, it was a once in a lifetime experience, never to be repeated.

    THE GATEWAY TO THE KINGDOM

“Blessed are the poor in spirit.” Matthew v. 3

Beware of placing Our Lord as a Teacher first. If Jesus Christ is a Teacher only, then all He can do is to tantalize me by erecting a standard I cannot attain. What is the use of presenting me with an ideal I cannot possibly come near? I am happier without knowing it. What is the good of telling me to be what I never can be – to be pure in heart, to do more than my duty, to be perfectly devoted to God? I must know Jesus Christ as Savior before His teaching has any meaning for me other than that of an ideal which leads to despair. But when I am born again of the Spirit of God, I know that Jesus Christ did not come to teach only: He came to make me what He teaches I should be. The Redemption means that Jesus Christ can put into any man the disposition that ruled His own life, and all the standards God gives are based on that disposition.

The teaching of the Sermon on the Mount produces despair in the natural man – the very thing Jesus means it to do. As long as we have a self-righteous, conceited notion that we can carry out Our Lord’s teaching, God will allow us to go on until we break our ignorance over some obstacle, then we are willing to come to Him as paupers and receive from Him. “Blessed are the paupers in spirit,” that is the first principle in the Kingdom of God. The bedrock in Jesus Christ’s kingdom is poverty, not possession; not decisions for Jesus Christ, but a sense of absolute futility – I cannot begin to do it. Then Jesus says – Blessed are you. That is the entrance, and it does take us a long while to believe we are poor! The knowledge of our own poverty brings us to the moral frontier where Jesus Christ works.

You posted a piece yesterday Stevie on the dangers of VR and AI. I hate to think about those ideas because the answers parallel our world now.It is disturbing to go forward in that thought.
The rich man was immersed in this world, he could not free himself enough to see Gods kingdom, a place we all originated from. The kingdom has all the answers and yet we cannot free ourselves enough to see. It is a constant battle to free our thoughts even for a moment. The more a person struggles to achieve, the farther he finds himself from God, home.
