James Comey Justifies FBI Spy Operations – More Reason to Release His Volumes of “Spygate” Memos….

Former FBI Director James Comey gave a radio interview to Los Angeles radio station KNX 1070-AM after the New York Times outlined FBI spies used in the 2016 election. When questioned about the FBI using intelligence assets to engage with Trump campaign official George Papadopoulos, Comey replied:

“Really? What would you have the FBI do? We discover in the middle of June of 2016 that the Russians were engaged in a massive effort to mess with this democracy to interfere in the election. We’re focused on that and at the end of July we learn that a Trump campaign adviser — two months earlier, before any of this was public — had talked to a Russian representative about the fact that the Russians had dirt on Hillary Clinton and wanted to arrange to share it with the Trump campaign.”

(Link to Radio Interview)

What Comey is describing there is “Russian representative” Joseph Mifsud talking to George Papadopoulos. Mifsud allegedly told Trump aide George Papadopoulos in April 2016 that Russia had “thousands” of Hillary Clinton’s emails.

On May 6th, 2016, some unknown intelligence apparatus ran an operation using Australian aide to Ambassador Downer, Erika Thompson, to interview Papadopoulos; and on May 10th, Ambassador Downer interviewed Papadopoulos and recorded their contact.

Later, in July 2016, the May 6th meeting with Thompson was used by FBI Agent Peter Strzok to write an Electronic Communication memo, transferred from CIA Director John Brennan to FBI Director James Comey, opening Crossfire Hurricane on July 31st.

It is worth remembering from a recent court filing by the FBI we are now aware that James Comey documented each intelligence decision in a series of multiple CYA memos that remain hidden. An additional court filing originally scheduled for April 15th, to determine the outcome of those memos, has been delayed until May 7th (next week).

The trail to understand the scale of the Comey memos surfaced as part of the FOIA case [Backstory Here] where DC Court Judge James E. Boasberg -an Obama appointee and also a FISA judge- asked the FBI to file an opinion about the release of Comey memos to the public. There were two issues: (1) can the memos be released? and (2) can prior sealed FBI filings, arguing to keep the memos hidden, be released?

In a very revealing filing April 8th, 2019, (full pdf below) the lead FBI investigator for the Mueller special counsel, David W. Archey, informed the court that with the ending of the special counsel some of the memo material can be released, such as their existence; however, Archey also stated much of the memo content and sealed background material from the FBI must continue to remain sealed and redacted.

Within the filing we discover the lead FBI agent was David W. Archey (background here). Archey was selected by Robert Mueller when the special counsel took over the counterintelligence investigation from Special Agent Peter Strzok. According to ABC: “Agent David Archey is described by colleagues as a utility man of sorts within the FBI”. However, until now his exact role was not known.

(Source pdf)

Following the conclusion of the Mueller probe, David Archey was moved. Effective March 8, 2019, Archey became head of the Richmond, VA, FBI field office. (link) Due to the corrupt nature of the special counsel, this is somewhat concerning. I digress…

The first three pages of the filing consist of David Archey explaining to the court that some of the material can be released, but other material must be withheld. He then goes on to reference two prior sealed attachments outlined as “Exhibit A” and “Exhibit B”.

“Exhibit A” is a filing from the FBI on January 31st, 2018, essentially supporting an earlier “in camera ex parte declaration” requesting continuance of a prior court order to keep the background material sealed from public view. In essence, the FBI didn’t want the public to know what was/is contained within the Comey memos (including the scale thereof).

“Exhibit B” is where the action is.

This is the original declaration outlining to the court on October 13th, 2017, why the Comey memos must be sealed. It is inside this exhibit where we discover there are many more memos than previously understood, and the content of those memos is far more exhaustive because James Comey documented the FBI investigation.

In essence Comey created these memos to cover his ass. (pg 13):

FBI Agent Archey then goes on to explain what is inside the memos: It is in this section where we discover that Comey made notes of multiple meetings and conversations with investigators.

Along with writing notes of the meetings and conversations, apparently Comey also made notes of the sources and methods associated with the investigation. Why would Comey generate classified information in these notes (sources and methods) unless he was just covering his ass because he knew the investigation itself was a risk?…

The content of the memos seems rather exhaustive; it appears Comey is keeping a diary for use in the event this operation went sideways. (page #14, exhibit B)

All of those investigative elements would likely be contained in official FBI files and notes by the investigative agents. There is no need for a contemporaneous personal account of meeting content unless Comey was constructing memos for his own protection. These memos appear to be motivated by the same mindset that caused Susan Rice to generate her email to self on inauguration day.

In the next section FBI Agent David Archey explains the scale of the memos. There are obviously far more than previously discussed or disclosed publicly. Additionally, look carefully at the way the second part is worded.

Archey is saying Comey’s written recollections should be withheld because it might affect the testimony of people familiar with the “memorialized conversations”. (page #15, Exhibit B)

This is an October 2017 filing, Comey was fired May 9th. FBI Agent Archey is outlining Trump as the target who might adjust his testimony. Again, more evidence of the special counsel focus being motivated by the obstruction case they were hoping to build. [Reminder, Comey was still FBI director at the time these memos were written]

The next section gets to the heart of why the FBI wants to keep the Comey memos hidden and not released.

In this section Archey outlines how FBI Director James Comey wrote down who the sources were; what code-names were assigned; how those confidential sources engaged with FISA coverage initiated by the FBI; what foreign governments were assisting with their effort; and what the plans were for the investigation.

Again, why memorialize all of this classified information unless the memos were intended as CYA protection for himself?

There’s also potentially good news here. Now we know the anti-Trump operation is memorialized in writing.  Somewhere there is documentary evidence of the entire operation within these memos.

Therefore, it looks like President Trump can add the Comey Memos to the pre-existing declassification list. At any time, President Trump now has a set of documents he knows to exist that his office can ask to be released. If the FBI was running an honest and genuine investigation; what do they have to fear from the release of the Comey Memos now that the investigation is over.

Here’s the full filing:

♦ President Trump can prove the July 31st, 2016, Crossfire Hurricane counterintelligence operation originated from a scheme within the intelligence apparatus by exposing the preceding CIA operation that created the originating “Electronic Communication” memo. Declassify that two-page “EC” document that Brennan gave to Comey.  [The trail is found within the Weissmann report and the use of Alexander Downer – SEE HERE]

♦ Release and declassify all of the Comey memos that document the investigative steps taken by the FBI as an outcome of the operation coordinated by CIA Director John Brennan in early 2016.  [The trail was memorialized by James Comey – SEE HERE]

♦ Reveal the November 2015 through April 2016 FISA-702 search query abuse by declassifying the April 2017 court opinion written by FISC Presiding Judge Rosemary Collyer. Show the FBI contractors behind the 85% fraudulent search queries. [Crowdstrike? Fusion-GPS? Nellie Ohr? Daniel Richman?]  This was a weaponized surveillance and domestic political spying operation. [The trail was laid down in specific detail by Judge Collyer – SEE HERE]

♦ Subpoena former DOJ-NSD (National Security Division) head John Carlin, or haul him in front of a grand jury, and get his testimony about why he hid the abuse from the FISA court in October 2016; why the DOJ-NSD rushed the Carter Page application to beat NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers to the FISA court; and why Carlin quit immediately thereafter.

♦ Prove the Carter Page FISA application (October 2016) was fraudulent and based on deceptions to the FISA Court. Declassify the entire document, and release the transcripts of those who signed the application(s); and/or depose those who have not yet testified. The creation of the Steele Dossier was the cover-up operation. [SEE HERE]

♦ Release all of the Lisa Page and Peter Strzok text messages without redactions. Let sunlight pour in on the actual conversation(s) that were taking place when Crossfire Hurricane (July ’16) and the FISA Application (Oct ’16) were taking place.  The current redactions were made by the people who weaponized the intelligence system for political surveillance and spy operation.  This is why Page and Strzok texts are redacted!

♦ Release all of Bruce Ohr 302’s, FBI notes from interviews and debriefing sessions, and other relevant documents associated with the interviews of Bruce Ohr and his internal communications. Including exculpatory evidence that Bruce Ohr may have shared with FBI Agent Joseph Pientka. [And get a deposition from this Pientka fella] Bruce Ohr is the courier, carrying information from those outside to those on the inside.

♦ Release the August 2nd, 2017, two-page scope memo provided by DAG Rod Rosenstein to special counsel Robert Mueller to advance the fraudulent Trump investigation, and initiate the more purposeful obstruction of justice investigation. Also Release the October 20th, 2017, second scope memo recently discovered.  The Scope Memos are keys to unlocking the underlying spy/surveillance cover-up. [SEE HERE and SEE HERE]

I hear Mueller may testify before Nadler’s committee on May 15th…If I were President Trump I would release the FISA documents and materials in his possession a couple of days prior to set the narrative…..let him answer questions about how this nonsense all got started

    • Kay Sadeeya says:

Actually I would release them 2 days post the testimony to show if Mueller lied. That’s how Mueller and his merry band of rabid Deep State immoral agents of darkness inside the DOJ operate. They place the bait, then they spring the trap.

People ask why Trump was targeted if Hillary was a shoe in. I would say Obama, Obama, Obama. Who hated and possible feared Trump. One word sum it up Birthgate. Obama had motive to destroy Trump for one of two reasons.
    1. Obama was born in Kenya as stated in his own book and trump and the Arizona sheriff were close to the real answer.
    2. Change the focus from Seth rich to Trump and Russia. Don’t look here nothing to see here. Seth was murdered not assinated. Follow this Seth was leaving congress woman’s shultz crooked congressional I. T. man’s apartment just before being killed. The DNC was screwing Sanders over and DNC and Hillary probably did not know exactly what was given to wiki leak. Shift blame to Trump and Russia. Two birds for price of one destroy trump cover up dems worng doing. Clownstrike supposedly looked at servers fbi did not why? Seth was not robbed and was shoot from behind stocked. He Was killing a planned hit job? All that has transpired had multiple layers. He was Key to most damaging info is in a British jail. The answers I feel can only to explained by Assange and I if this is true Assange will never see the light of day. • Ummm no! You started off strong with Obama but by the end you resorted to silliness. If Assange is the answer, then that would implicate Trump. I’m very comfortable with the treatment of Assange and I’m shocked how we’re giving the Trump Administration a pass in this. What gives? Seriously, do you support Assange or not. Please let’s not devolve yet again into Trump is perfect if not for all if his incompetent appointees. CTH Ked the charge on framing Rex Tillerson as the indefatigable strong man T-Rex and we used to love Jeff Sessions, and I could go on. I like Trump, but he’s not a demigod for crying out loud. Support him by speaking up against things that don’t make sense.

      • I intended to say I am upset with the treatment of Assange and don’t understand why Trump has arrested him

CTH tends to quite often act more Trumpian than Trump.

Being objectively critical about Trump’s failures is also not their forte.

Having said that, I feel blessed that there’s place on the entire blogosphere where I can come everyday and enjoy reading such insightful coverage of Deep State’s wrongdoings related to Russia! Scare.

Please! <0 wasn't born in Kenya. There's no evidence of that–just lies and BS that were convenient at the time, but then turned out to be problematic for teh 0ne. He was almost certainly born somewhere in the USA, the bastard son of his mom and Chi-town communist, Frank Marshall Davis. It's <0's frauds afterward that are significant–taking advantage of "foreign student" admissions and financial aid benes, though he was a natural born bastard citizen of the USA. Then there's the whole Muzzy apostate thing resulting from his Indonesian sojourn and likely most influential father figure, Mr. Soetoro. It helps noone to continue to shout BS, when the facts are pretty clear and though not constitutionally damning, pretty damn damning anyway.

PLEASE bury the President in pleas to bring Assange home with him on Air Force One:
Only Assange can expose the liars who keep saying the Russians hacked the DNC server.
He is our ONLY hope for justice. It will take you less than 3 minutes to plea for asylum for Julian Assange. Do it NOW!

    This was one of the most difficult and excreble 38 min and 13 sec to which i have ever listened, 38 min and 13 sec of ear and brain power wasted on another putrid Swamp Ceature. {shudder} As difficult and laborious as listening to that voice of Benjamin Wittes. {teeth-grinding…}

Comey started lying from the second Comey opened his mouth. Every.Single.Sentence. was a lie, a bloomin’ blitherin’ lie.

You bet Comey’s “explanation” to KNX is now reason to declassify those memos.
Pres Trump has had a public trial conducted for over two years with no chance of presenting a defense. Our Attorney General is now also being slandered by more stench-covered KFC greasy Swamp Creatures. It is daggone bloomin’ time Our President has a chance to defend himself and his Cabinet members in public.

That said, it still appears to be soon for full declass. Not yet. But soon.

You mention potentially good news here, documentary evidence of the entire operation.
In this KNX interview Comey again mentions Pres Trump’s tweet about potentially having tapes of the President’s conversations with Comey.
Comey is worried. Worried about those potential tapes. Why else would Comey keep bringing up that tweet from two years ago?

Tapes memorializing Comey’s lies to the President. Now, wouldn’t that be a hoot?

So true! I’d call it “excremental,” though execrable is on the mark, too. I continue to pray that PDJT will, much sooner, rather than later, RELEASE THE F’N KRAKEN!–every so called classified piece of BS and everything that proves it’s BS. So what if it burns “methods and sources”–they weren’t worth a shiite anyway. They need to burn the F out of Mifsud and all the other 5 a–holes operatives who participated in Crossfire Tempest in a Teapot and the Drossier!

@dayallaxede and @jeans2nd: I agree with both of you!

Here is what’s telling but first it now requires an answer to Comey’s activities before he even wrote these memos:

On the day he was fired he had limited info about the spying operation but most of all he had no inkling if he succeeded in playing his role sufficient enough to get his ‘desired’ Mueller selected to be the special counsel. Again it looks like that was planned long before as Comey strategically hands his buddy Richman copies of his memos.

Comey sought counsel from Mueller and visited with Mueller who now was investigating president Trump. As reported Comey sought answers from Mueller how to proceed as his testimony before the committee was scheduled. Reading @Sundance’s expose/court filing it is as clear as snow that Comey worked in his capacity as the head of the FBI with Mueller and Weissman on the investigation after he was fired. Conflict of interest anyone?

Inadvertently as always – liars and crooks slip up and so did Comey: Not only did he reveal the investigators colluded with the UK – as president Trump recently stated in this tweet about the involvement of the UK – but Comey also admits using planted spies which he labels human sources. He is ratting out who, where and whom they worked with spying on the candidate and president Trump. He can not now claim there was no spying nor can he claim that FISA court requests were on the up and up because based on these memos it proves otherwise.

Comey may think his CYA works to cover his ass but reading these excerpts shows him to be criminally corrupt beyond. There are no doubts. Nor are there any doubts that spying occurred and as usually hiding the truth in these memos kept classified which has worked for these crooks before.
We have since learned that the classifications have also been used to hide the criminality of the FBI. It’s easy to railroad any target they deem to destroy when they can use classification markings and withholding of documents to hide the truth.

  9. Alec Rawls says:

It seems that the central purpose of the Comey diary/notes, beyond memorializing his claimed justifications for his actions, would be to record a host of Trump statements, so that if Trump was ever foolish enough to sit down with Mueller any inconsistency with any of these previous recorded statements would give Mueller grounds to charge Trump with lying to investigators. It was part 1 of their perjury trap.

If so, this was all planned LONG before Comey was fired, but it would be most useful if Comey was fired, giving a possible hook for charges of obstruction. Was Rosenstein alert to all of this when he recommended Comey’s firing?

Rosenstein’s role here always seemed a little inconsistent. Once he got in it became clear that he was on the side of the deep state coup-attempt. It wasn’t clear immediately, as it became clear that Mueller was part of the coup attempt it became obvious that the man who appointed him had to be part of the coup attempt (likely because Rosenstein and Mueller along with McCabe were the three top dogs behind the massive Uranium One crime, which was sure to get exposed if Hillary’s many crimes were not covered up).

But if he was one of the coup plotters why did Rosenstein help oust their highest placed operative, James Comey? Because that was their collective plan from early on. In the absence of Trump Russia collusion they had to go with obstruction which required Trump to do SOMETHING that could be interpreted as obstruction.

Comey’s notes paint him as the key figure in a super-secret effort to stop a Manchurian Candidate in President Trump, notes that he leaked to the press immediately after he was fired in order to force a special council investigation.

Seems like a clear plan, and there was Rosenstein ready to immediately appoint Mueller, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he and Comey coordinated on Comey’s firing/obstruction plan from the beginning, with Rosenstein helping to get Comey fired.
