Thursday March 21st – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes! First spring we were in Texas, I walked out into the front yard just around sunset. I looked towards the neighbor’s property and just beyond the treeline on the far end of his property, it looked like that next field .. was on fire! I ran in, told hubby to come see, I think there is a fire! He came out, we ran over…..to discover that entire field was COVERED with Indian Paintbrush in full and glorious bloom! The way the setting sun was shining onto the field lit the paintbrushes just right – it was glowing orange.

My favorite combo, though – Bluebonnets and evening primrose (hope this image loads)

The one difference back then? We didn’t have 56 million foreign born legal and illegal residents with a cultural, political and economic agenda that conflicted with American values. In 1970 are foreign born population was about 4.7% of the population. Today it is about 18%.

You’re welcome, Weather Watcher! It’s a good item to pass along to relatives and friends simply to give encouragement that battles CAN BE WON if we engage. A dozen or so of my relatives still reside in California…three in San Diego. I left upon retirement in 2008.

California was stolen from us by wealthy lefties including the Brown family and the Newsom family and their socialist cohorts. It happened gradually and then all at once. Essentially there is no Republican party in the state. Opposition resides in small pockets here and there and a few elected officials remain in office but have absolutely no influence and make no difference except perhaps for honorable men like Devin Nunes.

Beyond sad. It’s terrible when “you can’t go home again.”

In an effort to provide the missing answer, the Center for Security Policy is making available via the Internet a new, free ten-part video course called “The Muslim Brotherhood …

Having watched each of these videos 3 times, taking notes, I can tell you this informative package will open your eyes:
as to how the moslem mullahs got into our military as ‘chaplains’ (B. Clinton)

how the regime of 2008-2016 was stacked w/dozens of moslems put in high ranking
      positions

how CAIR is and has always been, a front group for more radical Islamic activity

      and much, much more.

I was very impressed w/how Mr. Gaffney calmly and methodically presented case after case, fact after fact. It is people like he, Robert Spencer, Daniel Horowitz, and others (Dan Bongino is in this circle), who are trying to educate and show Americans what is/was
      being done to your country.

    God’s Unconditional Love

“But God commendeth [directed] His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8).

We often hear couples speak of their love for one another after years of marriage, but there is a greater and deeper love—the love of God. The above is perhaps one of the most profound verses in the Word of God. It is amazing when we consider that God has directed His love toward us. But in what way did He do so? The answer is found in the very next statement: “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” In other words, when we were in total rebellion against God, dead in trespasses and sins, and shouting profanities in the face of God out of hatred for Him, God intervened to provide a way of salvation. In unconditional love, He sent His Son, the Son of His love, to die for His enemies—you and me!

God has made a provision for all, but only those who place their faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary will be saved from their sins. You see, God will not accept your good works for salvation. The Word of God could not be clearer on the matter: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us” (Titus 3:5). Perhaps you are wondering: “What must I do to be saved?” It is simply this: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died for your sins, and rose again (I Cor. 15:3,4). The moment you trust Christ as your personal Savior, all of your sins will be forgiven, and God will grant you the free gift of eternal life.

God loves you; Christ died to save you; what more could He do for you? Trust Him today before it’s too late. Believe me when I say, you do not want to leave this life without Christ. To do so will leave you with an eternity of regret, because there are no second chances beyond the veil of death—it’s now or never! Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and God will save you wonderfully by His grace. But the good news does not end here; He will also give you a new life in Christ!

Lucille: Thanks for posting Juan’s vlog ! FWIW, I’ve long railed agaist the ” Two Pilot ” cockpit ! I grew my fldegling flying feathers in the company of a lot of “old pelicans ” that grew to be old because they survived – i a three/four seat front end ! Juan makes very clear some cogent points in a very technical and abstruse ( to anyone not a pilot ) arena . I’ll only add one point I think significant . In pursuit of efficiency ” hand flying ” of the aircraft is not merely “discouraged” but actively thwarted by the training syllabi and dicta issued from the “Chief Pilot”s office ! Piled atop are the “Manufacturer’s Training manuals ” and resutant ” Procedures Manuals ” all not necessarily crafted by those that are pilots or have ever flown the aircraft . Today’s pilots aren’t “flyers” so much as ” machine managers ” overseeing and directing the activities of flight/navigation computers and engine/aircraft management systems . I tend to think of them as drone pilots that happen to be aboard !

I’ve been friends with many pilots over the years and admired them greatly. None of them flew anything as complicated as the 737 MAX, though….mostly smaller jets like Lears, Gulfstreams, Hawkers. One USMC friend in the early 1960’s flew reconnaissance in a F8U Crusader. But me? I know nothing about the inner workings of aircraft and would be way too chicken to learn. LOL!

In yesterday’s Open Thread I posted a pretty plaintive plea for any spare thoughts or prayers for my wife.
As a recap we were having to deal with lowlife scums who had a racket going stealing donated goods from the charity at which she is the CEO. To the Treepers who responded with so much kindness and concern I can only say thank you so so much.
I’m a little ashamed to admit now that, we’ll, I took counsel of my fears and my courage failed me.
Honestly, your kind words were like an arm around the shoulder and a gentle reminder to hold my head high and really believe that courage and a good cause can never really be beaten.
We are still facing the same issues we had yesterday, but They don’t seem anywhere near as mountainous.
I have hardly slept at all, but last night I found myself drawn to your messages because I found that the more I read them, the more the strain and stress seemed to seep away.
As I went about my day today when I found myself looking a bit like a beaten dog, I thought of your messages of support and imagined you were there with me. How could I be worried or afraid when I had all of these good and true people standing at my shoulder?
You guys may not have realised it, but you actually spent the entire day in Tasmania with me!
Don’t ever let anybody tell you that kind words can’t make a difference.
    Thank you.

Jase,, how very kind…. I had a feeling that you lived in another country, Tasmania seems very exotic to me… But the sun never sets at CTH.

SD has created a place where there is a thing called crowd sourcing… Usually that involves sleuthing a certain event, the people involved, videos etc, but I think it also includes feedback from others that have faced a similar issue.

Not to mention the power of prayer. That in itself is powerful.

Don’t put yourself down, sometimes listening to your fears is wise. Sometimes you have to stand up to them. I guess it all boils down to that old saying “pick you battles”.

BTW I did a distance calculator and we are roughly 9500 miles apart!!!!

      Jase,
Part of our discouragement (despair/darkness, whatever), comes from the sinking feeling that there really are terrible people in this world, who do terrible things.

The darkness of what they do (temporarily) enters into our world, and (temporarily) affects us.

But don’t let the darkness of what they do, stay in your world. There are ways of driving that darkness out.

And as many of the commenters suggested, use security cameras, deliver footage to LEO’s.

If your wife is CEO, does she not have access to the perp’s job application (the one who was shelling the stuff out the door).
Why can’t she turn that information over to the police, and have the police/sheriff do a formal inquiry on this guy: it’s called being AN ACCESSORY TO A CRIME.

This rat can turn over the names & address of the creeps who tried (notice the word
says ‘tried’) {but did not succeed}, to intimidate you.

Run scenarios through your mind as to what you are going to do if anything similar would ever happen again. This is what ALL cops, firefighters, LEO’s, military, etc., do.
      Practice for possible scenarios.
That way, you have control over your reactions.

Still strongly suggest going through the employment records/applications, and see if
there are ANY SIMILARITIES/connections between any and all of the applicants.
Usually word of mouth in the criminal element tells them where they can go to “get in
good” w/a source or supply of stuff to sell on the side. Keep your eyes open.

    ===

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
    BY WILLIAM WORDSWORTH

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
    A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
    They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
    In such a jocund company:
    I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
    Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils.

Dutch police are working on the possibility that the shooting on a tram in Utrecht in which three people died was a terror attack.

detectives said their investigation has not established any relationship between main suspect Gokmen Tanis, 37, and the victims.

Public prosecution office spokesman Ties Kortmann said three people are now in custody including the alleged gunman and two others who were also detained on suspicion of involvement in the shooting.

Connecticut Assisted Suicide Bill Would Allow Doctors to Kill Mentally Disabled Patients

Let’s not be confused by double speak. The bill (HB 5898) that the Connecticut legislature is poised to consider has nothing to do with “aid in dying.” Aid in dying is palliative care to improve the quality of a person’s remaining life. The World Health Organization views such care as a human right. The bill would not expand desperately needed access to palliative care or expand patient autonomy – patients already have the right to refuse any type of treatment. Instead, the bill concerns the authority of doctors. It sets forth the circumstances under which a doctor could actively prescribe lethal drugs to directly cause the death of a supposedly willing patient without fear of liability.

Yesterday I had my six month dentist visit. This time they did x rays and a cleaning… I mentioned the temperature sensitivity I was experiencing, and the dentist checked my bridge and said that it was “leaking”… *sighs This is about the worst thing he could have said… because the only fix is a new bridge.. I really don’t know, he seems like a good dentist, buy my husband thinks he may just be looking to make money… I was wondering if anyone ever went for a second opinion, for dental work??? Is that being paranoid? 😦🤔😟

Would not hurt to find a second opinion, my dentist whom I had been going to since I was a child told me I needed a root canal in 2001, my employer had been bought out and I was very sick (long story) and was not working (not to mention 9/11 depressing employment potential for me).

So instead of a root canal he sculpted me a tooth and it still rock solid today, of course he said if it didn’t hold had to do the RC to CYA himself, 1000 root canal vs 79 sculpted tooth dentist’s got room to play if they want to. He did do a RC to a different tooth a few years later and didn’t mention the shape of the one he sculpted a few years earlier.

If you have a dental college around locally (or nearby big city) my mother got all her bridge work done for free or at low cost there as the dentists in training need the “procedure” for their grade / experience. One of those bridges she got was gold paid for by the DiT as he apparently needed that checked off his list, mom was giddy over it being gold.

      Hope this helps.

My father had a temporary filling put in when he went into the Navy in 1938. He was told it had to be replaced in 6 mo. When he died about 70 years later, he took it to his grave with him.

Do it, amwick. One dental problem often leads directly to another. The dental school solution sounds like a plan. Win-Win for you and for the dentists in training who need to complete their “apprenticeship” requirements & training hours. Plus, they’ll probably be happier to spend sufficient time answering your questions.

        • My husband had his wisdom teeth removed at a dental school (many years ago). The professor did all the work and explained the entire procedure to the students. The cost was very reasonable. Good luck!

RUN……….do NOT walk. My friends got a new dentist who was new in town and he started removing ALL their well done fillings and replacing them. They finally spoke to each other about it and found out he was doing this to everybody. He was paying for his schooling.

We switched to a new dentist a few years ago. Our 18 year old daughter was told she had a cavity on the back of a bottom front tooth. She went in to have it filled and the dentist took 15 minutes just to find the cavity then fill it. Turns out it was just a natural indentation in the tooth, no decay.

When she got home and told me I called the office manager and told her I was calling the insurance company next to report this. She quickly said there would be no charge to us or insurance.

Last time for that dentist and we told everyone to stay away from him.

Ineptness is common everywhere now. Doesn’t matter if you need a plumber, a dentist, an electrician, or a doctor. Morons exist in ALL fields! My wife and I visited a dermatologist several years ago. He probably took an African safari vacation after removing a couple dozen “pre-cancerous” skin tissue samples from each of us over several visits. Of course all the biopsies came back negative. This could have gone on for months, but we finally smartened up and quit going. Many so-called professionals act like the 3 Stooges with their diagnoses! Natural indentation in tooth called a cavity! What’s next? Diagnosing falling down injury to butt as “cracked”…must fill up the crack with caulking?!!

Yes do go for a second opinion! If you live near a dental school (University type) I would recommend that route.

    The Lord Comforts Sinners
    MARCH 21, 2019

    John 8:1-11
1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, 4 they said to Him, Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?” 6 They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. 7 But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. 10 Straightening up, Jesus said to her, Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?” 11 She said, No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.”

We expect a loving heavenly Father to care for His children when they are hurt, persecuted, or misunderstood. But you might be surprised to realize that God comforts believers even when they have sinned.

Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save anyone who believes in Him (John 3:17). Consider His response to the woman whom the Pharisees caught committing adultery. They brought her behavior to Jesus’ attention and wanted to stone her. But instead of taking up a rock, Jesus offered forgiveness. The Lord did not defend her actions or completely erase all consequences of her choices. However, He did offer compassion as well as an opportunity to turn her life around and live in the forgiveness He granted: “Go. From now on sin no more” (John 8:11).

The Lord understands our human frailty. And even before we do wrong, He knows the poisonous harvest that we will reap from sin. We certainly want a lot of comfort when we are suffering from our own foolishness. A loving heavenly Father does not abandon His children at their hour of great need—His Spirit wades into the mess we have made. He offers to guide us out of the pit, soothes our broken heart, and provides reassurance that He is always close by.

Sinning against the Lord makes us feel unworthy of His care and solace. Yet God’s forgiveness is based on His great mercy rather than our conduct. If Jesus Christ sacrificed His life to save you from your sins, then He will love and comfort you, no matter what.

I would definitely look for a second opinion before jumping into this new expense, amwick. My friends learned to their horror that their long time dentist had not done work properly for years and damage to daughter’s teeth has cost them $15,000 so far. Look around before proceeding please. I think the new dental procedures are because so many people now have dental insurance. I don’t. My insurance agent advises against it.

Well, it’s a catastrophe that hasn’t happened. Once again, the hoaxer’s alarmist predictions prove wrong. They are thriving.

Oh my goodness. Freaky beyond words, and a ridiculous, dangerous (to survival of species) message. I don’t get what the hand motions are…? Actually at the end they do make one reasonable point, about western medical doctors making medical decisions and directing patients sometimes toward their financial interest operations, such a owning an Alzheimer’s care facility and recommending/directing an elderly go there and leave their home and family.
