Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

50 years ago on Christmas Eve, this photo was taken by Apollo 8 astronauts. They also read Genesis 1:1-10. The atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair sued the government on First Amendment grounds, because of this reading. The Supreme Court dismissed the suit, stating their jurisdiction did not extend to the moon.

    Some light Xmas humor 🙂

In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it “Christmas” and went to church; the Jews called it “Hanukka” and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say “Merry Christmas!” or “Happy Hanukka!” or (to the atheists) “Look out for the wall!” ~Dave Barry, “Christmas Shopping: A Survivor’s Guide”

    If it weren’t for Christmas
    We’d all be Jewish.

Today, walking along the little boardwalk at the state park, I saw a family group, visitors from afar, I am guessing India. So I was wondering if a heartfelt Merry Christmas was appropriate. I decided not to ponder this and gave them a really happy Merry Christmas greeting. One of the younger woman flashed a lovely smile, chuckled and said Merry Christmas right back. Joy. Spirit. It’s a thing. Merry Christmas visitors. Safe travels.

      Christmas Eve Prayer

Give us, O God, the vision which can see Your love in the world in spite of human failure.
Give us the faith to trust Your goodness in spite of our ignorance and weakness.
Give us the knowledge that we may continue to pray with understanding hearts.
And show us what each one of us can do to set forward the coming of the day of universal peace.

      — Frank Borman, Apollo 8 space mission, 1968

      History of the Christmas Carol
“May the forgiving spirit of Him to whom we dedicate this season prevail again on earth.
May hunger disappear and terrorists cease their senseless acts.
May people live in freedom, worshiping as they see fit, loving others.
May the sanctity of the home be ever preserved.
May peace, everlasting peace, reign supreme.”

      — Soundings, Vol. 2, # 12

Loving God, Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
      the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

      Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

We are about to leave to go to our son’s home for a Christmas Eve celebration with our 3 kids, their spouses and 7 grandchildren. How blessed and fortunate we are to have gathered from New York, Connecticut, Boston, Houston and Boulder to all be together for what promises to be a feast, and a warm and loving evening.

I don’t know about most of you, but I always feel somewhat melancholy on Christmas, recalling the many past Christmases growing up, and then raising our own family. So many memories of receiving a bride doll, stocking cap, new ice skates, wrapping late into the night, balancing out the presents….. Wonderful highlights to our Christmases of 59 years together.

I do want to wish everyone at the Treehouse all best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and the very, very best in 2019. You have been so generous and thoughtful in your comments and analysis of the world events, and have been such a support in these difficult times. I love our dear President and find such comfort in knowing that we have a marvelous leader in Sundance, and I savor all of your comments that give me comfort and hope. Merry Christmas!!

A wide range of illustrations of the Adoration of the Magi. The song is one I sang with my high school choir, and still brings great warmth to my heart.

How can we allow the glorious traditions of Western Civilization to be supplanted by the evil nihilism of of Neo-Marxist, Post-modern totalitarianism? It is a travesty beyond all imagining. If a history of the “American Era” is allowed to be told in the wasteland that civilization will become without its beneficent influence, those of us who lived it and benefited from it will be held accountable. It’s happening under our watch. What will we do? What can we do? I don’t know. Does anyone?

      • I’m sorry. I don’t see anything like what seems to be upsetting you. I see the same separation of political and religious viewpoints that one sees thru the ages. Everyone is passionate about their own point of view and down on those of others. My tilt is completely to Trump. He’s the center of my philosophy, and he’s doing fine fighting for values we share. But perfectly decent people see it from the other side and I”m not going to put them down for not seeing the same world I’d like to see. Western Civilization isn’t falling. In fact, with Trump at the head of our government, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg retiring in January, things aren’t half bad.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Col. Flynn:

    Prayer to St. Michael

    St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
    by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
