Friday October 19th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    214 Is Going Down

I heard something over the radio a few weeks ago, the like of which I’ve never heard before — and certainly never want to hear again. I heard the last words of the pilot on No. 214, a big jet plane that crashed to earth with 81 persons aboard.

Because of the weather conditions the planes were “stacked” rather high around the Philadelphia airport, so the airport tower had just asked him: “Do you want to go on or do you want to hold?” The pilot had barely replied that he wanted to “hold,” when he said something about his big Boeing 707 being on fire! Then came the awful words: “We’re going down. Two fourteen is going down in flames.” He said it calmly, and the Philadelphia tower answered back: “We have your message, two fourteen.”

Just imagine, hearing the actual last words which the pilot uttered while he and eighty others were being hurled more than 5,000 feet to their death amid the flaming parts of their stricken plane!

Yet, one does not have to be in a plane to meet death suddenly. He can stumble off a curb and be killed or die suddenly in a hundred different ways.

The important thing is to be ready. We do not wish to frighten people into accepting Christ as Savior, but it is a fact that we ought to think more than we do about the uncertainty of life. P r o v e r b s. 22:3 says: “A wise man foreseeth the evil and hideth himself, but fools pass on and are punished.”

No wonder Paul wrote in II Cor. 6:1,2:

“We then as workers together with Him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain…. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of salvation.”

We cannot offer salvation yesterday, for yesterday is passed. Nor can we promise it for tomorrow, for the opportunity may be withdrawn by then. The best we can do is to tell you that God loves you, and that Christ died for you, and urge you to act upon this now.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

P r o v e r b s 22:3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

2Corinthians 6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

    Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

    1Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

    3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

    To the Reader:

Some of our Two Minutes articles were written many years ago by Pastor C. R. Stam for publication in newspapers. When many of these articles were later compiled in book form, Pastor Stam wrote this word of explanation in the Preface:

“It should be borne in mind that the newspaper column, Two Minutes With the Bible, has now been published for many years, so that local, national and international events are discussed as if they occurred only recently. Rather than rewrite or date such articles, we have left them just as they were when first published. This, we felt, would add to the interest, especially since our readers understand that they first appeared as newspaper articles.”

To this we would add that the same is true for the articles written by others that we continue to add, on a regular basis, to the Two Minutes library. We hope that you’ll agree that while some of the references in these articles are dated, the spiritual truths taught therein are timeless.

When my parent’s were sound asleep, around midnight or so, I used to sneak into the living room and watch “Playboy After Dark”. The show opened with the arrival of “Heff” at the Chicago mansion,in his 300SL Gulwing Mercedes, accompanied—as always—with a beautiful Playboy model. To my 12 year old eyes, the whole thing was the height of cool, although I now remember how obviously uncomfortable Heffner was before the camera and how contrived the whole “party” actually seemed. What was not contrived, however, was the quality of the music—usually first class jazz. This piece by Stanly Turrentine reminds me of those long ago late night TV shows.

    • Thank you so much for sharing this. As the mother of an organ recipient this touches pretty close to home. My son’s Liver Transplant was probably one of the most impactful things in my life as a mother (the years lead up, the surgery & recovery course, & now the lifelong medical care that is required)…

We’ve just hit the 5 year mark post-transplant & haven’t yet been able to (in-)directly thank the donor family. This family has been on my heart & in my prayers for years, in particular Prior to the transplant. It was an excruciating sorrow that someone would need to lose their loved one for my son to receive a whole organ transplant. Praying fervently for that family to build beautiful memories with their loved one, for the Lord to minister salvation & peace to them, & for His comfort to overshadow them as they dealt with their overwhelming loss were some of the things that were near constant prayers.

I’ve written about transplant a number of times at my blog so if anyone is facing that situation if you might find comfort &/or encouragement by reading some of what another family experienced in their journey please stop by & search “transplant”.

This particular post is focused on an article about numerous transplant recipients who met with their donor’s family & how reading about that encounter impacted me at that time. Here’s a link to that original article, fyi.

      Blessings to all!

Mexican Feds arrested one of the “very loud” leaders of the “caravan” of 4,000 illegals as they tried to pour into Mexico yesterday…they are being sponsored by Pueblo sin Fronteras which is funded by Soros…for whom the “leaders” allegedly work.

the radical arrested is Irineo Mujica…who resisted arrest

…and here come the <b.immigration attorneys screaming about “human rights violations”…

…and that both the US and Mexico are “breaking international asylum laws” which “prohibits countries from sending people back to countries where they feared for their lives.”

so…they’re entitled to invade the USA ??

…and the USA must take them in ??

apparently so, according to the Left (surprise surprise I’m shocked shocked).

today…those same “migrants” are “holding a protest outside the consul general of Guatemala’s office.”

the “protest” is called End the Repression Against Honduran Refugees.

Please thwart the evil plans of men, and expose the evil deeds of men so that they will not escape justice, and rescue from destruction the innocent, the helpless, the unwary, and the unsaved. Protect those facing persecution, blessing and shielding them, and touch the hearts of their persecutors, lifting the veil, so that they will recognize their sin, repent, and trust Jesus Christ as savior.

Father we pray that you would give us politicians who have clarity, integrity, and passion for what is right. Give them great intelligence to solve problems, but please give them great strength of character, to stay away from anything corrupt or sinful as well.

Bless all who love us and all whom we love. Bless and protect Donald Trump, Mike Pence, all incoming Cabinet Members and Aides to the President, all lawmakers who uphold Biblical principles, law-keepers in all branches of the military and in all law enforcement agencies and ALL of their families, and work your good and perfect will in their lives this day, so that they will lead spiritually fruitful, spiritually productive lives, and as happy, healthy, and long as you have appointed with your good and perfect will, free from malevolent interferences.
Protect us from a slow agonizing destruction we pray.

    Contagious Anger
    OCTOBER 19, 2018

    Prvbs 22:24-25
24 Do not associate with a man given to anger; Or go with a hot-tempered man,
25 Or you will learn his ways And find a snare for yourself

Anger can wreak havoc on both the body and soul, but its scope extends beyond the individual and impacts everyone nearby. In this way, bitter outbursts and silent resentment are not just our own personal issues.

An angry spirit is contagious. It can pass from one person to another—and even from one generation to the next. Workplaces can become tense environments full of caustic words and attitudes. Ire turns homes into battlegrounds of verbal explosions or silent hostility. Even churches suffer from malicious gossip and fights over personal preferences.

God created us to live in fellowship with others, but anger can poison our relationships. Tragically, those closest to us are the ones who suffer the most. Children learn to respond to life’s situations by observing their parents’ example. They then develop similar attitudes and patterns of behavior. We need to give serious thought to what kind of heart we are passing down to our sons and daughters.

Thankfully, God is in the heart-changing business. Just as we learn an angry person’s ways by association, so we can learn righteous ways by walking closely with the Lord. Christ calls us to come, learn from Him, and find rest for our souls (Matt. 11:28-29) 28 Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS

Which would you prefer: churning anger or Christ’s peace? Both require sacrifice. To maintain anger, you forfeit healthy relationships and possibly a godly heritage for your descendants. But to acquire peace, you simply ask God to help you leave grudges, personal rights, and insults at the altar.
    Dr. Charles Stanley

Psalm 86:12 New King James Version (NKJV)
12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore.

Grandma Covfefe has alerted us to the plan of some witches to gather TOMORROW (Sat, 10/20) to collectively put a curse on Justice Kavanaugh. As a counter to their efforts, I’m praying Psalm 35. Below I’ll be placing the full text of the Psalm and a link so you can share it with ease if you’d like to do so. (AND PLEASE NOTE I AM NO EXPERT, I’m just trying to counter the demons as best I can!)

Before I add those two items, I wanted to say that Psalm 35 is a little long. To make it easy and quick for me to pray this Psalm throughout the day, after reading the FULL Psalm aloud in the morning, I’ll be reciting the just the opening verse multiple times during the day on Saturday. (Recall Jesus on the Cross – “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” – NOT A CRY OF DESPAIR, folks – actually the opening of Psalm 22. Read the entirety of Psalm 22 and what you will find is that it is a prophecy of the Lord’s death, resurrection and His Church.)

35 Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them.

6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them.

7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

9 And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

10 All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

11 False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.

12 They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.

13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.

14 I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.

15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:

16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.

18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.

19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.

21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.

22 This thou hast seen, O Lord: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.

23 Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.

24 Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.

25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
