Dereliction of Duty – Four Broward County Deputies Remained Outside Florida High School, Neighboring Police Dept. Were First Into Building…

Yesterday it was revealed that Broward County School Police Officer Scot Peterson refused to enter building for over four minutes during the active shooter rampage.  Today we discover that an additional three more Broward County Deputies arrived yet did nothing.

Officers from neighboring Coral Springs police department arrived on scene, noted the four Broward Deputies refusing to engage, and the CSPD immediately went into the building.   According to a CNN report, the following day, February 15th, Coral Springs City Manager Mike Goodrum confronted Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel over the dereliction of duty and cowardice exhibited by the Broward deputies.

I wish I could tell you I’m surprised; but I’m not.  As we previously researched and outlined, the conduct by the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) is not unexpected.  Their behavior is shameful, but not unexpected. From the top down, officials within the BSO are focused on political objectives within Broward County and maintaining/defending a political status amid all county officials:

(Via CNN) When Coral Springs police officers arrived at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14 in the midst of the school shooting crisis, many officers were surprised to find not only that Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson, the armed school resource officer, had not entered the building, but that three other Broward County Sheriff’s deputies were also outside the school and had not entered, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. The deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles, the sources said, and not one of them had gone into the school.

With direction from the Broward deputies who were outside, Coral Springs police soon entered the building where the shooter was. New Broward County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, and two of those deputies and an officer from Sunrise, Florida, joined the Coral Springs police as they went into the building.

Some Coral Springs police were stunned and upset that the four original Broward County Sheriff’s deputies who were first on the scene did not appear to join them as they entered the school, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. It’s unclear whether the shooter was still in the building when they arrived.  (read more)

The day after Coral Springs City Manager Goodrum confronted Broward County Sheriff Israel, Coral Springs Police Chief Anthony Pustizzi sent out this email to his staff Feb 16:

Everyone in the surrounding communities know exactly how corrupt Broward and Miami-Dade officials are.  No-one outside the area with any common sense is blind. The only difference amid outside observers is how much they know.   Only a few, like the CSPD, know how bad it really is because they encounter the participants during overlaps.

The Broward system of civic society has one filter, that filter is politics.  Everything else comes after that filter is applied.   Do some research and you’ll see it surface EVERYWHERE; not just in school administration and law enforcement, everywhere.

If reporters keep digging and asking questions people will discover they are only seeing the very tippy-top of the heavily politicized agenda within Broward County law enforcement, school administration and all around civic leadership. Citizens are co-dependents to their own abuse.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is just one cog in an institutional system that is fraught with corruption and negligence at multiple levels.   You don’t pull off this level of gross malfeasance, openly -in front of the entire population- for years,  without strong internal support mechanisms.

Factually I’m shocked this much has surfaced.  Normally Broward and Miami-Dade keep a tight cover on all these issues through their ideological friends and allies at the top of the media enterprises.  Obviously the local news media editorial boards and corporate owners are struggling to keep control over inquires from outside news agencies.

However, given prior experience don’t expect this sunlight to last much longer.

We can be relatively certain executives at news groups within the Miami-Dade and Broward affiliates are quickly calling their outside peers with instructions to remain focused on the larger political objectives.  Inquiries will stop soon…. all will be swept under the proverbial rug… the blood will be washed away….. and the citizenry will be lulled back to sheep…

That’s not cynicism, that is reality.

All your children are belong to them.

There is no Donald Trump type political strength of character in the area to confront the corruption.  The system will self-protect.

I am confused as to how the parents of the deceased and surviving kids of that school are not on every channel in America, calling for the heads of these non-cops?

How can the former FBI agent Hoggs put his kid out there to shill for gun control in light of the gross negligence ( NOT extreme carelessness) of these non-cops and their masters?

This PC Govt place-holder is enough to make you puke!
Anyone living in those 2 counties of FL need to become CCW holders/carriers – for their own safety. OR, they should just start packing in the face of this bozo…
I also noticed all this BS flowing in the MSM re: the NRA…These companies are attacking over 5 million Americans – that most likely “influence” another 5 mil or more… The NRA had nothing to do with this sicko in FL… Such a boycott is going to backfire to the max, just as soon as the dust lands and those members can turn the tables on them!… How about all those HR dept’s that are headed by NRA members – issuing blanket bans on “using” any such hotels, car rentals, and airlines? How about “members” letting such companies know that they will never again use their services – and, they will insure all “family members” do the same… Such a “force multiplier” should be applied in this case of “unprovoked attack”.
I thank God for finding this site and SD…we need to spread this location to all we know and then we need to ACT as a GROUP in all matters of interest! Check-6

I don’t believe there were any mistakes made with this whole mess. They found a potential shooter and waited for it to happen. Heck, it wouldn’t shock me at all to find out that the four Derpities that were there were only there to make sure a certain body count was hit.

I don’t see anything more complicated than a libtard Sheriff’s department that is more concerned with leftist policies than doing their job.
          Same with the FBI,

This scenario started 10 years ago with the shooter commiting frequent violent actions with no consequences.

I’ve read elsewhere how the Sheriff staffed his department with political hacks for his re-election efforts. I’m not at all surprised that leftist deputies are craven, incompetent, cowards. I’d expect that.

I suspect there was a policy or there were orders. I can’t believe that zero out of four would stand by while kids were being slaughtered. One always goes in, and breaks the logjam. Others then follow. That’s natural. All 4 staying out doesn’t seem natural. I suppose you could have an entire police force of weasels. Then again, the 2 are not mutually exclusive. I suspect we will learn they were following orders or procedures.

I think either scenario is indeed possible. I don’t trust the Sheriff to tell us if it was policy, but I think the cops will if it was policy and they are being held up as cowards,

I guarantee you it was SOP and augmented by a culture of taking no police action at any school. And it was an SOP that was vigorously enforced. The Coward County Sheriff Dept. had been turning a blind eye to violations of the law for yrs., so this time was just SOP. They probably figured, so, there’s a shooter. We are supposed to get shot for what? We are not here to enforce any laws. In an emergency situation, You react in a manner in which you have been trained. They had been trained to ignore anyone on school grounds violating the law. They were not police officers. When Coral Springs PD arrived, they reacted like police officers. They had been trained to enforce laws, even on school property.

Peterson prides himself on doing a great job.

I guess his job was to protect the misunderstood youth AKA the shooter.

Peterson was doing the job he was being paid to do. He probably was an outstanding SRO, if one measures his performance against the program implemented by the Broward County NAACP. Make no mistake about who this program was meant to serve. The NAACP put this program in place w/a to willing liberal cabal.

        • You know at first I also thought Peterson could skate with that excuse. Pre Columbine he would have.

Since 2012 after a brief assessment officer immediately intervene. No, Peterson, the 3 others, and their chief all ought to expect to be facing dereliction of duty charges soon.

          From an interview in 2012:
“Baltimore County Chief of Police James Johnson. He is a 34-year veteran of the force. He’s also the incoming chairman of the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence.

JAMES JOHNSON: In the past, the strategy was to respond – initial patrol units respond, and secure both inner and outer perimeters; and wait – sometimes a lengthy wait; for more equipped, response-type units from tactical, for example. Today, all across America, the practice is, police officers who are patrolmen, who initially receive the call, respond at the scene. Once they make an assessment, they cause an immediate intervention to freeze; stabilize; and keep the incident from moving throughout a larger structure, such as a mall or a school. In addition, there’s been significant enhancements in officer armament, weapon upgrades and other technologies – from communication to other wireless improvements – to help us deal with active-shooter confrontations.”

Some realize, not all, (but more are sslowly starting to)
    – similar to the numerous cya mis-statements to the public in Las Vegas – that the Fl. Gov. and Broward Sheriff etc. feel the need to cower and to say some nonsense in order to defend their faults, their liability (keep their liability insurance intact) vs. potential lawsuits…
    so,
they stay with their public pre- mispolicy of “gun free zones”….
…knowing full well, that is dangerous and is an alluring notice to cowardice evils.
    Sick, reprehensible.

For the beholden to ‘gun free’ it is – not publicly admitting faults – about supporting their prior mis-policies (and associated insurance rules, money, and control),
not (really) about the vulnerable innocent children within their widely mis-advertised, and way, way under protected “gun free zones”.
    Sick.

In essence, the mis-motivation for “gun free” is about money and / or control by limiting god-given liberties.
(and they miss ‘say’ in the Fl. case, it is “for the kids”)
    Yet, what happened? Tragedy.

As a result, since before Columbine…there have been dysfunctional delays in performing corrective measures.
(allowing legal concealed self defense el pronto,
    and longer term
the improving the culture of the schools and society)

The often untold incrementally employing of backwards, progressive ‘demographic winter’ tactics for 50 years to undermine and degrade the U.S. culture / environment) is not good.
That needs a reversal, a Spring thaw, beginning with whole truths and honesty – and the fortitude to say, and do, so.

  6. As I, and a previous posters have acknowledged, the SCOTUS has ruled, on several occasions since the 1950’s, that law enforcement is just that enforcement. There is no requirement to protect. With this being said we must only be arming officers for their self protection. This in turn should be the overwhelming justification for more relaxed regulations for concealed carry. Our protection is our responsibility no one else’s, so degreeth SCOTUS. Broward officers are covered. Nothing will happen to them. At least Peterson had enough shame to resign.

“See something, say something” and “Why do we need guns when we have trained professionals, Just call the police” memes have been exposed for what they are.

Peterson was an SRO, School Resource Officer, so he could put his time in until he retired. It was a Monday thru Friday dayshift job. It’s a cushy position to have. Well, he put his time in and retired. When an LEO decides to retire, they file their paperwork with whatever retirement system they are a member off. When they do retire, they are submitting their resignation. Even though their resignation may state they are retiring, it is still a resignation for all intents and purposes. So, while it may sound good to the public, who think that the former deputy resigned because he didn’t want to face the music, he still had to submit his resignation, collect whatever sick and vacation pay he is entitled to cash out, and AVOID being subjected to an internal affairs investigation and resulting discipline that may have been taken because of his actions at the school during the shooting. He could still be facing criminal charges, but I highly doubt that. Sounds good coming from the sheriff’s mouth, but it’s all talk to appease the angry public.

Given all the new school policy information dug out by SD, the reported inaction by Broward County Police and the fact that despite 39 visits by the police Cruz had NO police record, the matter of the FBI’s “failure” needs to be seriously revisited.

Yes, there was a failure to pass along a threat to the local FBI field office that needs to fixed , but consider:
It was 1 or probably 100’s (if not 1,000’s) of social media threats to be checked. The action by the local FBI office before elevating this to direct action by the field office would have been to check Cruz’s criminal record to assess the threat level. Gee, Cruz had NO criminal record.
Plus, Broward County already knew of Cruz and the threat. So, this lack of communication was NOT a contributing factor.

Further, since Cruz had NO criminal record guess what the gun purchase background check yielded, by a person who did NOT know Cruz?? Yep, cha-ching its Ok to sell the guns.
