Friday December 15th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

The White House website that I would go to for links to live press briefings and daily news and statements has been changed. Lots of nice pictures and a spot that shows President Trump’s latest tweet – but no link found for upcoming, live, events and press briefings. If someone navigates that page and finds how to go to current (or upcoming) press briefings link, please share. Thank you.

To find live coverage on the site now requires a confusing maze of clicks starting with the subtle top left-hand corner “hamburger” icon. Once there, click “About the White House” and on that landing page head to the bottom footer where a small font says “Live.”

I was gonna suggest you use the “contact” button to tell them about it, but it’s no longer on the front page either, it’s 3 clicks in, you gotta hunt and peck around to stumble on it.

… although the actual link is still simple and sensible:
      https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

If you write them, please suggest they hire webmasters who know how to make their pages simple and intuitive and obvious instead of stupider. Even that would be a simple matter if they had a “webmaster” link at bottom – you know, like most pages do.

As I fear we’re bound to be saying more and more in this changing nation of ours:
      “Que lastima!”

  3. full disclosure, i’m a lifelong star wars fan….but the new star wars movie sucks. there was a scene/event that happened relatively early that after taking a moment to process what i had just seen, i seriously considered getting up and leaving. the force is gone with this one.

You just have to laugh at these surveys and reports like the one that surfaced today on the MSN front page: “Cities Where Your Retirement Nest Egg Will Stretch the Furthest.”

The writers miss the irony that many of the top cities listed (e.g. Detroit, Memphis) also happen to be some of the most violent cities in the country. Baltimore, St. Louis and Cleveland are also on the list.

Of course your retirement nest egg will stretch further in many of these places. You’ll likely be dead before you run out of egg.

I remember a few years ago you could buy a home in Detroit for $5,000 bucks but the caveat to the deal– you had to live in the house.

On Chinese TV recently, there was a program for students featuring a biophysicist who had trained for his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
This man said that when he came to the United States he became disillusioned for the first time in his life; because he had imagined the United States as a beautiful place of freedom, democracy, human rights and more.
He was mugged twice and his car stolen while he studied in Baltimore
These cities disgrace our beloved nation

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
