President Trump Elevates Status of U.S. Cyber Command…

Statement by The President –  I have directed that United States Cyber Command be elevated to the status of a Unified Combatant Command focused on cyberspace operations.

This new Unified Combatant Command will strengthen our cyberspace operations and create more opportunities to improve our Nation’s defense. The elevation of United States Cyber Command demonstrates our increased resolve against cyberspace threats and will help reassure our allies and partners and deter our adversaries.

United States Cyber Command’s elevation will also help streamline command and control of time-sensitive cyberspace operations by consolidating them under a single commander with authorities commensurate with the importance of such operations. Elevation will also ensure that critical cyberspace operations are adequately funded.

In connection with this elevation, the Secretary of Defense is examining the possibility of separating United States Cyber Command from the National Security Agency. He will announce recommendations on this matter at a later date.

Through United States Cyber Command, we will tackle our cyberspace challenges in coordination with like-minded allies and partners as we strive to respond rapidly to evolving cyberspace security threats and opportunities globally.   (link)

Interesting and maybe indicates some concern about NSA (Snowden comes to mind.)

Excellent! This unified command will of course have to carry out studies on threats and weaknesses. Not all the the resulting reports need to be classified, and some, like an analysis of the Congress IT-support, may well become public. Hmmm……

I said those words as part of my Oath of Enlistment, I don’t recall any time limit on it.
I’ll never disavow or betray it.

The key for me was this part: “That I make this obligation freely, without mental reservation or purpose of evasion.
          So help me GOD.”

Warning lefties snowflakes, I swore to GOD. Good Luck with your little tantrum.

The NSA/CIA/FBI is loaded with swamp dwellers. The military is behind Trump 100%. This is Trump’s way of getting around those in the goobermint who do not support our president.

While this Unified Combatant Command is concerned with national security, it opens a door for discussion. Why did Obama hastily sign away USA’s internet oversight to foreign interests after the election? Why was that such a pressing matter? And shouldn’t antitrust laws apply to internet conglomerates like google, which now has a monopoly on internet searches, even as it hides/censors information, redirects inquiries and tracks/shares user activity? Inquiring minds want to know. With the fake news media controlling everything else we see and hear, we definitely need to provide and preserve a free internet.

Yes Plain Jane. The NSA was supposed to be forbidden from spying on us. They lied. Of course. That shirt is sarc to anybody who knows that, and informs those who don’t.
I have one of those shirts too!

BTW, section 702 of the Patriot Act sunsets before the end of the year. Because of all the SPYING, and SNOOPING, and LISTENING, & CAPTURING it does not need to be renewed.

The congress-criminals were discussing this before they left.

After Labor Day, (when they come back & before they go take another vacay SERIOUSLY, if they stick to their original calendar, I don’t know why, but both chambers will be off for two weeks in the middle of October!) the SECTION 702, will need to be watched and defeated. They’ll try to stick in with something else.

Shrub never let a good crisis go to waste either!!! (9/11)

I have one of those, too. It is great! I bought mine after I heard about the makers defeating the NSA in court when the agency tried to stop them from selling them.

    Wiki background of agency:

    “Mission statement

According to the US Department of Defense (DoD), USCYBERCOM “plans, coordinates, integrates, synchronizes and conducts activities to: direct the operations and defense of specified Department of Defense information networks and; prepare to, and when directed, conduct full spectrum military cyberspace operations in order to enable actions in all domains, ensure US/Allied freedom of action in cyberspace and deny the same to our adversaries.”[3]

The text “9ec4c12949a4f31474f299058ce2b22a”, located in the command’s emblem, is the MD5 hash of their mission statement.[4]

The command is charged with pulling together existing cyberspace resources, creating synergies and synchronizing war-fighting effects to defend the information security environment. USCYBERCOM is tasked with centralizing command of cyberspace operations, strengthening DoD cyberspace capabilities, and integrating and bolstering DoD’s cyber expertise.”

  15. Bull Durham says:

Cyber Command has always had a failed leader.
The black hats and white hats all know it is a flawed organization from birth.
    And the Chinese own it.
They turned all the devices (hardware and software) the NSA used to penetrate China upon the Cyber Command.
Most probably, the Russians have it also.

Moving it to DOD will be like moving the Fitzgerald to the shipyard. It will get patched up, but what matters is commanders.

They will primarily weaponize more cyber creations, but they have no idea about doing defense.
Look at our EW and Missile Defenses. Same mentality. Huge budgets. Cost overruns. And we can’t depend on them. All we have is firepower.

So, we will have Cyber Attack Command and not Cyber Defense Command.
That is more than inevitable inside the DOD.

And without the Infrastructure program how do we harden the Grid, protect and shield our networks?

It’s a nice story on the surface. Dig a little into Cyber Command. It’s quite different.

Interesting perspective BD We will watch and see.

What would be your recommendation for cyber defense certainly the NSA and CIA have proven they follow the path you discribed

      Is there an answer

Complete new organization from the ground up. Don’t allow any contractor or corporations near it. Only American-born or raised as officers and management staff. No recent immigrants.
All hardware “sterilized” so NSA, CIA and FBI have no trapdoors or worms inside any of the equipment or code.

And mandate Infrastructure as part and parcel.
It totally must be integration of Infrastructure or all they are is another weapons system dressed up as something else.

  17. Well done Mr. President, a common sense approach that gives autonomy to an agency that has no business under any other command.
