Secretary of State Rex Tillerson Recaps 2016 Religious Freedom Report…

As a consequence of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 the U.S. Secretary of State is required to deliver an annual report on the status of religious freedom.

Today Secretary Rex Tillerson completes his duty as outlined within the law and delivers remarks regarding the 2016 International Religious Freedom Annual Report.

[Transcript] SECRETARY TILLERSON: Morning, all. We are releasing today the 2016 International Religious Freedom Report. This report is a requirement pursuant to the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 – legislation that upholds religious freedom as a core American value under the Constitution’s First Amendment, as well as a universal human right.

This law calls for the government to, quote, “[Stand] for liberty and [stand] with the persecuted, to use and implement appropriate tools in the United States foreign policy apparatus, including diplomatic, political, commercial, charitable, educational, and cultural channels, to promote respect for religious freedom by all governments and peoples.”

Almost 20 years after the law’s passage, conditions in many parts of the world are far from ideal. Religious persecution and intolerance remains far too prevalent. Almost 80 percent of the global population live with restrictions on or hostilities to limit their freedom of religion. Where religious freedom is not protected, we know that instability, human rights abuses, and violent extremism have a greater opportunity to take root.

We cannot ignore these conditions. The Trump administration has committed to addressing these conditions in part by advancing international religious freedom around the world. The State Department will continue to advocate on behalf of those seeking to live their lives according to their faith.

The release of the 2016 International Religious Freedom Report details the status of religious freedom in 199 countries and territories, and provides insights as to significant and growing challenges. Today I want to call out a few of the more egregious and troubling examples.

As we make progress in defeating ISIS and denying them their caliphate, their terrorist members have and continue to target multiple religions and ethnic groups for rape, kidnapping, enslavement, and even death.

To remove any ambiguity from previous statements or reports by the State Department, the crime of genocide requires three elements: specific acts with specific intent to destroy in whole or in part specific people, members of national, ethnic, racial, or religious groups. Specific act, specific intent, specific people.

Application of the law to the facts at hand leads to the conclusion ISIS is clearly responsible for genocide against Yezidis, Christians, and Shia Muslims in areas it controls or has controlled.

ISIS is also responsible for crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing directed at these same groups, and in some cases against Sunni Muslims, Kurds, and other minorities.

More recently, ISIS has claimed responsibility for attacks on Christian pilgrims and churches in Egypt.

The protection of these groups – and others subject to violent extremism – is a human rights priority for the Trump administration.

We will continue working with our regional partners to protect religious minority communities from terrorist attacks and to preserve their cultural heritage.

As the 2016 report indicates, many governments around the world use discriminatory laws to deny their citizens freedom of religion or belief.

In Iran, Baha’is, Christians, and other minorities are persecuted for their faith. Iran continues to sentence individuals to death under vague apostasy laws – 20 individuals were executed in 2016 on charges that included, quote, “waging war against God.” Members of the Baha’i community are in prison today simply for abiding by their beliefs.

We remain concerned about the state of religious freedom in Saudi Arabia. The government does not recognize the right of non-Muslims to practice their religion in public and applied criminal penalties, including prison sentences, lashings, and fines, for apostasy, atheism, blasphemy, and insulting the state’s interpretation of Islam. Of particular concern are attacks targeting Shia Muslims, and the continued pattern of social prejudice and discrimination against them. We urge Saudi Arabia to embrace greater degrees of religious freedom for all of its citizens.

In Turkey, authorities continued to limit the human rights of members of some religious minority groups, and some communities continue to experience protracted property disputes. Non-Sunni Muslims, such as Alevi Muslims, do not receive the same governmental protections as those enjoyed by recognized non-Muslim minorities and have faced discrimination and violence. Additionally, the United States continues to advocate for the release of Pastor Andrew Brunson, who has been wrongfully imprisoned in Turkey.

And in Bahrain, the government continued to question, detain, and arrest Shia clerics, community members, and opposition politicians. Members of the Shia community there continue to report ongoing discrimination in government employment, education, and the justice system. Bahrain must stop discriminating against the Shia communities.

In China, the government tortures, detains, and imprisons thousands for practicing their religious beliefs. Dozens of Falun Gong members have died in detention. Police – policies that restrict Uighur Muslims’ and Tibetan Buddhists’ religious expression and practice have increased.

Religious freedom is under attack in Pakistan, where more than two dozen are on death row or serving a life imprisonment for blasphemy. The government marginalizes Ahmadiyya Muslims, and refuses to recognize them as Muslim. It is my hope that the new prime minister and his government will promote interfaith harmony and protect the rights of religious minorities.

Finally, in Sudan the government arrests, detains, and intimidates clergy and church members. It denies permits for the construction of new churches and is closing or demolishing existing ones.

We encourage the Government of Sudan to engage concretely on the religious freedom action plan provided by the department last year.

Unfortunately, the list goes on.

No one should have to live in fear, worship in secret, or face discrimination because of his or her beliefs. As President Trump has said, we look forward to a day when, quote, “people of all faiths, Christians and Muslims and Jewish and Hindu, can follow their hearts and worship according to their conscience,” end quote.

The State Department will continue its efforts to make that a reality. Recently nominated Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Governor Sam Brownback, will be the highest-ranking official ever to take up this important post. We look forward to his swift confirmation.

I thank my many colleagues at the department and overseas who contributed to this report, and specifically the Office of International Religious Freedom, including Senior Advisor on Global Justice Issues Pam Pryor, Special Advisor for Religious Minorities Knox Thames, and the previous ambassador-at-large, David Saperstein.

We look forward to working with Congress, and the administration, to continue America’s indispensable role as a champion of religious freedom the world over. Thank you very much.

QUESTION: Mr. Secretary, do you have any response to Kim Jong-un’s decision to pull back his threat on Guam?

SECRETARY TILLERSON: No, I have no response to his decisions at all at this time. Thank you.

QUESTION: Any comments on the situation there, in North Korea?

SECRETARY TILLERSON: We continue to be interested in finding a way to get to a dialogue, but that’s up to him. Thank you. (transcript link)

It’s NOT ‘violent extremism’ that is going around murdering people. There is NOBODY fighting under the banner of (or in the name of) ‘violent extremism’. That PC gobbledygook-speak is infuriating.

    It’s islam.

Plain old (1,400 years old) by-the-book islam.

islam was founded by a MASS-MURDERER.

Can you imagine if YOUR worldview and religious belief was conceived of by a MASS-MURDERER? No matter how ‘nice’ you are, how do you get around the reality that you are FOLLOWING in the footsteps and precepts of a MASS-MURDERER?

Worse (if it could be!), an unrepentant mass-murderer!

    …………………………………….
Former Muslim, Ali Sina, said: “Muhammad is a narcissist, a pedophile, a mass murderer, a terrorist, a misogynist, a lecher, a cult leader, a madman, a rapist, a torturer, an assassin and a looter.”

“Ali Sina offered $50,000 to anyone who could prove otherwise based on Islamic texts.

    The reward has gone unclaimed.”

    …………………………………….

What’s the difference between the Charles Manson murder-cult and the ‘Charlie’ Mohamad murder-cult?

Charles is only responsible for the murder of several people, while Mohamad is responsible for the murder of tens of millions (probably hundreds of millions), and counting more EVERY SINGLE DAY.

The annual Ramadan Bomb-a-Thon is like the Murder Olympics, where the objective is to see if they can rack up an even higher body count than the previous year.

You can be sure that if their numbers were as small as, say, ‘white supremacists’, they would be international pariahs and political-class types would trip over themselves getting to a microphone to condemn this grotesque anti-human belief system as fast as possible.

But since there are close to a BILLION of these murder-cult followers, and because the money flows like wine, the political-class feels obligated to treat this murder-cult like a civilized belief system. But because they know the truth, they overcompensate by elevating islam above all others, virtue-signalling so hard many of them throw out their backs and shoulders, requiring chiropractic relief and rotator-cuff surgeries.

This is not a complicated thing, people just make it complicated.

Jesus is the best and highest example of Christianity. It is NOT possible to reject Jesus, or His teachings, or His deeds and be a Christian. Obviously and without credible dispute, it is not possible, it would be hopelessly contradictory to reject Jesus and claim to be a follower of Jesus.

    By the exact SAME token:

Mohamad is the best and highest example of islam. It is not possible to reject Mohamad, OR his deeds, OR his teachings, and be a Muslim. It is NOT possible. No matter how sweet and kind and nice any follower of Mohamad might seem, they must embrace and accept and believe in the example, deeds and teachings of a mass-murderer.

And we haven’t even yet discussed the tens of millions murdered in the name of islam over the past 1,400 years!

If there is any way around that simple reality, if anyone can explain how my understanding is in error, I would love to know it.

We are we playing ‘footsie’ with this heinous ideology of atrocities and crimes against humanity?

“We” are playing footsie because we are playing for time. Fortunately for the world, islam was divided into two camps after Mohammed died, and each has been trying to erase the other in the 1400 years since. In trying to contain Shia Iran and its nuclear aims, Pres Trump needs the support of and the Sunni States.
In the meantime, everyone else, in my opinion, should be promoting the idea of freedom for muslims to leave islam without punishment. That would do more for us than opposing islam outright, because at least half of islam is obviously only there because of fear. Publicity and sunlight on the koran and its vile messages should be done in tangent with getting muslims to leave safely.

“Publicity and sunlight on the koran and its vile messages should be done in tangent with getting muslims to leave safely.”

        _______________

Agreed. The solution is simple and effective.

        1) declare islam for what it is, an ideology of hostile subversion that is incompatible with the Constitution for the united States of America

        2) after exposing that islam is an ideology of subversion and violence that seeks to overthrow every ‘host country’ it infiltrates, outlaw islam. It’s not a ‘religion’, it is a cultural and political doctrine of conquest with religious trappings

        3) close every single mosque (might as well be the islamic word for ‘terrorist indoctrination & training center’) in America

        4) deport anyone who refuses to renounce islam

        5) begin a worldwide information campaign exposing the truth about islam in the full light of day

        .

Expose the false religion of islam in the light of day.

        And it would be easy.

The easy way to defeat islam is to expose the violent, sadistic and perverse teachings of islam and the atrocities committed by Mohamad to the whole world, so that the whole world is properly repulsed and rejects islam openly, like Germans who were forced to tour Hitler’s concentration camps after WWII.

This is not even a difficult thing to do. We have their Authoritative books, we have the secular history of the adherents of this ideology called ‘islam’, and we have a veritable FLOOD of video, in living color, of adherents carrying out acts of horrific violence, based on the declared and written Authority of their texts.

Consider the communications technology at our disposal, and our preeminent position in the world from which to expose this great evil, and the LONG experience we already have with shaming and the coercive power political-correctness (a.k.a. adult peer-pressure).

Imagine if the West ever got serious, and engaged in the propaganda war which islam is fully engaged in against the West?

islam has been in all-out war — including propaganda war — against the West for at least 30 years, and we’re not even fighting back (yet).

Not only are we not fighting back, our own political-class and mass-media are assisting (aiding and abetting, excusing and enabling) the enemy. Openly. They should be prosecuted. Imagine, for even a moment, what would happen to them, if the Left had been committing these same acts of treason and subversion during WWII.

        What is different now?

It’s HARD for the Leftist / Globalist / anti-America news media and political-class to keep berating people to be tolerant of islam, when islam is so obviously, hyper-violently intolerant of anything that is not islam. It is cognitive dissonance on steroids. It is not regular Americans who are the ‘bigots’, it is ISLAM that is bigotry codified.

islam is the ideological embodiment of ‘bigotry’,

        …………………………………….
        Bigotry
        noun
        1. stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one’s own.
        …………………………………….

Imagine how easy it would be — instead of defending islam and berating Americans to avert the much-deserved ‘backlash’ — imagine how simple it would be to unleash the public AGAINST islam, which is the NATURAL reaction any normal human being has toward the atrocity of islam?

The ‘powers that be’ certainly KNOW that, which is why their first response to every atrocity of islam is to trot out the phony ‘backlash’ narrative to quell any natural, human reaction AGAINST islam.

Imagine if every TV news report on islamic attacks was accompanied by a brief review of the Koranic verses which authorized that atrocity, and a strong condemnation of islam by the reporter, as the reporter would do to any other criminal atrocity.

Imagine a concerted review of all the atrocities committed by adherents of islam, along with the specific Koranic verses that Authorized those atrocities. Imagine if this was done with even one tenth the vitriol and vigor with which the fake news media goes after Trump on any given day of the week.

Imagine if every facebook page and social media outlet focused on the atrocities of islam, rather than making excuses for islam and enabling islam.

The only thing that is preventing all of these things from happening right now, right this moment, is the political WILL to do it.

        That’s it.

        Nothing more.

Imagine the international peer-pressure and condemnation, the righteous moral OUTRAGE that every genuine and legitimate victim of islam could (and should!) bring to bear against the horrific and barbaric ideology of islam, an ideology whose own Authoritative texts — when exposed — would only heap more shame upon those who follow them.

        What is their defense?

That emperor wears no clothes. Their ‘sacred’ texts don’t exonerate islam, but just the opposite — it is the very truth, the evidence and proof that condemns islam.

islam would rightly assume its deserved worldwide pariah status in weeks and months, not years. People would abandon islam by the hundreds of millions in civilized parts of the world, rather than be associated with such a heinous belief system, once it was exposed in the full light of day.

You think people are eager to distance themselves from association with ‘white supremacists’? Watch them run from any association with ‘islam’, once the shroud of government sponsored ‘legitimacy’ and social ‘protection’ and the ‘immunity’ that comes with being a member of a ‘protected class’ is stripped away…

After nearly 1,400 years of trying for the bottom rung of humanity — and missing even that — has islam not truly earned the right to be stigmatized as being worse, by many orders of magnitude, than Nazism?

If there is a better or more comprehensive every day in-your-face example of man’s inhumanity to man than islam… what would that be?

Considering that islam condones and teaches misogyny, oppression, violence, torture, mutilation, pedophilia, rape, slavery, murder and genocide (and that is certainly not an exhaustive list), if Satan was creating a religion, what would he add, that islam does not already do?

In the communications age, defeating islam doesn’t require a single bullet.

It only requires the WILL to do so. It only requires making the decision to speak the truth and to expose the truth about islam, making the decision to reject islam as the ideological Ebola that it is.

The Authority for the deeds committed by ISIS is in the Koran and associated islamic texts.

ISIS is faithfully following the example and teachings of Mohamad.

If anyone wants some other kind of islam, some sort of ‘cafeteria islam’ where people can pick and choose what to follow and what to ignore, that would be called “Apostate islam”.

    False islam.

A made-up belief system that looks like ‘islam’ to the casual observer, but which denies the Authority of the Koran and the example of Mohamad.

It’s like looking for a “Christian” who denies the Authority of God’s Word and the example of Jesus Christ.

Totally agree with all your thoughts on this, but I see this as a two step process. First, pressure all muslim countries to allow freedom of religion (Tillerson above). Secondly promote the idea that muslims should be able to leave islam without penalty (apostasy). Once those two things are accomplished, then islam will wither. However it will take a long time, and the danger is that islam will outbreed the rest of us. Which means promoting women having large families again. Which means….. educating people about islam, but try not to rant.

That’s sounds excellent in theory, but it is tantamount to pressuring Christians to allow sin in the church. It is antithetical to the entire belief system.

The source of the problem, in every way, always comes back to the Authoritative text and the example of Mohamad.

If you do not deal with that reality and confront it directly, then you are only addressing the symptoms of the disease, not the source of the sickness.

We can ‘pressure’ all we like, but we can no more change what is written in the Koran (and associated islamic texts) than we can change the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The difference is that one laid down His own life out of His love for mankind.

The other was a mass-murderer who butchered mankind for his own gain.

It is tantamount to promoting the idea that Christians should be able to engage in ongoing, unrepentant sin; it is antithetical to the entire belief system.

When one is creating a cult, there are a lot of loopholes that need to be closed, or it will never hold its water. One of those doors that needs to be slammed shut so hard that it is never opened again is the possibility that anyone can come after you and change anything.

        Mohamad did that.

Only a prophet through whom allah speaks could add to allah’s word, so by declaring himself the ‘last prophet’, Mohamad effectively foreclosed on the opportunity for anyone to change anything after he was gone.

And after Mohamad declared himself the last prophet, naturally anyone who claims to be a prophet from that time onward is a false prophet by definition, and must be stoned to death immediately.

The other thing you do when formulating a cult is to create an insular environment, and play on the fears and jealousies and conflicts among your people, so that when anyone has ‘just cause’ to turn on someone for violating cult doctrine, the whole group will do so, both out of petty acrimony over any perceived ‘wrong’ in the past, and out of public virtue-signalling, to show everyone how righteous you are.

Ergo, anyone who tries to leave shall suffer the penalty of being stoned to death. Let he who has a grudge against that individual, or he who wants to signal his fealty to islam — or both — throw the first stone.

        See how that works?

        You need to:

        A) make sure you are the sole Authority, and make sure no one can ever undermine or usurp your Authority after you’re dead

        and

        B) give your followers Authority and permission to kill anyone who tries to leave

There is much more to it of course, but those are two of the biggies.

It will only take a long time if we’re not serious about it, and if we’re not serious about it, then it won’t take a long time, it’s just another way of saying it won’t ever happen.

Either way, it won’t take a long time.

We entered, fought and won World War II in under four years. From December 7th, 1941 (Pearl Harbor) to VE Day (Victory in Europe) on May 8th, 1945, to VJ Day (Victory over Japan) on August 14th, 1945. We fought that war against enemies who were our equal or our superior in technology, standing armies and military armament.

Today, the West in general and America in particular are technologically and militarily superior to any islamic adversary by so many orders of magnitude that it’s embarrassing to even try to quantify it.

So when members of the establishment political-class say things like ‘winning the war on terror will take decades or generations‘, that simply means they have no intention of even trying to defeat it. Because if they wanted to, if it was necessary as part of their ‘agenda’, they have overwhelming capacity to do so, and could, if they were personally motivated to do so.

Clearly, our establishment political-class has no intention whatsoever of even confronting islam, much less defeating it. It’s not even a concern of theirs.

If anything, the establishment political-class is using islamic violence and the islamic invasion as a tool to advance their own hidden agendas.

That is certainly the case with the political-class in Europe.

And Hussein Obama was intimately involved with Leftist/Globalist European ideology.
