Anthony Weiner Pleads Guilty To Child Sexting Charge – Wife Files for Divorce…

Perpetual pervert, and disgraced former Democrat congressman, Anthony Weiner, turned himself in to the FBI, pleaded guilty in federal court this morning to a single count of transferring obscene material to a minor.

Later in the afternoon, a court official confirmed his wife Huma Abedin had filed for divorce after seven years of marriage. The divorce is uncontested. Weiner, 52, agreed to surrender his iPhone as part of the plea agreement, and he must register as a sex offender. Weiner also apologized to the teenage girl.

NEW YORK – Weiner agreed Friday not to appeal any sentence between 21 and 27 months in prison.

During the hearing, the Democratic former congressman apologized through tears to the 15-year-old girl with whom he exchanged sexually explicit texts, saying, “I accept full responsibility for my conduct. I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse. I knew this was as morally wrong as it was unlawful.”

“These destructive impulses brought great devastation to my family and friends, and destroyed my life’s dream of public service,” he continued. “I am committed to making amends to all those I have harmed.”

Weiner was already in federal custody ahead of the hearing.

The judge told him he would have to register as a sex offender.

The FBI began investigating him in September after the North Carolina girl told a tabloid news site that she and the disgraced former politician had exchanged lewd messages for several months. She also accused him of asking her to undress on camera. (more)

Yes, this is not the sentence he truly deserved. If you take Huma out of the equation, there are their two small children that were innocently caught up in this and they victims too as well as the victims in the case. In NY plea bargain convictions are appealed regularly.

Prosecutors get signed waivers of appeal in plea cases, and cases are still appealed.

Jurisdiction of the court, validity of the plea itself, and legality of sentence are often raised, and in a few cases successfully.

21-27 months in prison? “So, Mr. Wiener, in exchange for a reduced sentence…say, 21-27 months in prison and registering as a sex offender…as opposed to say, 20-30 years in prison, with no chance of parole, do you have anything you’d like to speak to federal prosecutor about and would be willing to testify to, in a court of law, under oath, of course? And just so know, we take oaths seriously.”

Tonawanda, I believe, Mr. Wayne Dupree, may have concluded his assertion from the linked tweets in his article.

I understand and respect why people want a far more severe sentence.

The numbers I have seen people suggest are the sort given for actual rape or attempted murder.

We have become an extremely retributive society. We did not used to be this way. We have lost a sense of proportion.

The left uses this harsh attitude legally against average Americans every day.

    • 7delta says:

I don’t think it’s the sexting sentence that’s the real issue, but the fact he’s a serial offender of multiple crimes. Still, I get your drift.

My thinking, at this point, is that if the laptop contains the kind of stuff that makes an NYPD investigator/chief sick to his stomach, I’d guess there’s quite a range of crimes Weiner could be nailed for, across multiple jurisdictions. Just having “the stuff” in his possession is enough. Weiner knows all of it’s wrong/illegal or he would have had no reason to lie about it, hide it or admit to a “sickness.” If there’s really a file named “Life Insurance”, it’s also an admission of knowledge of a crime and intent to blackmail.

IMO, the fact he was charged only with the sexting is significant in itself…unless more charges are forthcoming, but I’d guess the reduced sentence for the least serious crime (and publicly known) is the plea bargain, with greater returns expected in the future. There’s no question Weiner is arrogant and dirty to the core, but he’s not the big fish.

If he’s turned state’s evidence, then the reduced sexting sentence may well be worth it to see real justice done on the bigger scale. Time will tell.

      • Tonawanda says:

I have seen no evidence that Weiner possessed explicit images of minors engaged in sexual conduct, although that could be true.

Weiner is a slimy, despicable piece of garbage, but 20 years for sexting is the same as actual rape or manslaughter.

I never bought the anonymous NYPD “report” from months ago and remain skeptical.

I highly doubt prosecutors would not require a child pornography conviction if there was child pornography.

I think Fake News hurts Trump and our side regardless of where it comes from.

Attention seekers, click-hunters and and hysterics on “our side” have flooded the internet with hysterical, bed-wetting posts all over the internet for a while now.

These are young men craving fame but who lack judgment, life experience, and scrupulous regard for the truth. They hurt our side and Trump.

        • 7delta says:

That’s why I said “if” and “time will tell.” I did not say there are illicit images of children, but I did say that “if” there is something bad enough that it made an NYPD officer sick, there could be more than simple sexting involved.

We know there was classified material on the laptop. Having classified info in his possession is a federal crime, in itself. Doesn’t matter whether he read it or not. Why was it there? Treason would make me sick to my stomach. Weiner may not be guilty of committing treason…no one may be…but he could be guilty of misprision of treason or misprision of felony and “if” there is a file named “life insurance”, it would be an admission of knowledge crimes and an intent to blackmail.

IOW, Anthony Weiner’s troubles exceed sexting and he could still be involved in a plea bargaining to reduce his sentencing and to drop charges for other crimes he may have committed.

The 20-year comparison by some posters came from the 20-year sentence given to the Secret Service Agent for sexting, but Weiner, a repeat offender, is only getting around 2 years. Why? Because he was not a public employee at the time, therefore there’s a lower standard than for the SS agent? Because the last girl is his only underage victim, so technically, that’s the only actual crime he committed…since the others were between adults? Or did he cut a deal, not over sexting, but because of other info he may have?

I’m not skeptical at all there was evidence of serious crimes on his laptop. Even Comey said there was classified into on Weiner’s laptop in his appearance before Congress. Whether additional evidence contains illicit images or evidence about people engaging in illicit behavior with minors, I don’t know, but all I need to know that he has big legal problems has already been admitted publicly and in comparison to the SS Agent, he got off easy. The question is why?
