Friday January 13th – Open Thread

Tomb of the Unknown ChristmasOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Illegal, the tweet 8 hrs previous, on that timeline, states….

      • czarowniczy says:

Israel’s hit targets around Damascus before so it has the ability despite distances. I’d also saw, in some of the reports of Russian military deploying to Syria, what appeared to be the S-300 SAMs being offloaded. Not enough detail to see what versions. If they are to be deployed around Latakia and Tartus to bulk up the SA-22 systems Russian crews would be manning them so they wouldn’t be the ‘monkey model’ export systems.
Israel might want to get what it can get done before the more robust systems come on line and I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t have some sigint birds flying to get see if they could get radar intel on what’s in place.

    Another hate hoax

    January 10:
“A white supremacist petition that circulated at a Maryland high school on Friday described African Americans as a “scourge,” said they “invented” rape, stealing and basketball, and spoke of “the supreme White race.” School officials immediately denounced the document and began an investigation.”

Arundel High School’s principal sent home a letter to parents Monday saying that she was saddened and stunned “by the mere existence of the petition, to say nothing of the wording used in it.” But she also said she was equally heartened by the resolve of staff, parents, students and the community.

“The collective message has been clear: Arundel High School will not be defined by this incident,” Principal Gina Davenport wrote. “We will remain one community that celebrates our diversity.”

    January 11:
“The Anne Arundel County Police Department has charged a 14-year-old girl with a juvenile citation for sending a threatening tweet related to Arundel High School.

That person has been identified as a 14-year-old African American female who attends Arundel High School.”

Good Op-Ed on National Review site about Clock Boy’s failed attempt to sue for defamation.

Was Clock Boy the pawn of agitators? Was this a complete set up? Send the kid to school with a bomb-like device, expect the school to handle it in a way that can be claimed as Islamophobic, then sue? Thank you Texas for seeing through this ruse.

It was unsurprising that this action was brought in Irving, Texas, where a group of local mosques had set up an Islamic tribunal offering mediation in civil disputes, such as divorce proceedings, within the Muslim community. Irving’s mayor, Beth Van Duyne, raised concerns about the tribunal, noting that its members were putting themselves forward as “attorneys” and “judges” despite not being licensed to practice in the state of Texas. She quite properly pointed out that we already have courts and laws in this country that apply equally to everyone. These mosques have been agitating against the mayor since then and took full advantage of the publicity around the Clock Boy incident to claim she had created an environment of Islamophobia.

    • nwtex says:

It is curious for sure, F.D.R.

      From your WP link–>

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz will command not only members of the D.C. Guard but also 5,000 unarmed troops dispatched from across the country to help. He also will oversee military air support protecting Washington during the inauguration.

“My troops will be on the street,” said Schwartz, who turned 65 in October. “I’ll see them off, but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”

Military officials and Trump transition officials provided contradictory versions of the decision to replace Schwartz.

    • czarowniczy says:

First off, anyone’s National Guard is political, the commander of every state’s NG commander basically serves at the whim of that state’s governor. I can remember my Reserve unit getting flooded officers of many grades who were looking for a new home when a new governor came in and wanted to make room for friends and supporters. The Guard belongs to the Governor and is 99% political.
The DC NG is a chimera, it has no governor as it’s not a state, the usual gubernatorial functions in the DC Guard are donebin the White House, the POTUS appoints the commander. Schwartz has been there since 2008, that’s quite a long time for any general in any command and Schwartz could have rubbed Trump supporters or some Congressperson with a Trump ‘in’ the wrong way.
The Guard isn’t the Army or the AF, it’s a political beast that’s called on at times to do military things. This removal per se doesn’t surprise me though the timing of it does, to relieve him at 12:01 instead of midnight is unusual and may be a sign. Hey, it’s the Guard, live by the bureaucrat, die by the bureaucrat.

Would be nice to get accurate count but, as you know, unless you are right there in person the chances of getting an honest # are slim and none….depending on the politics and agenda of station and those filming and reporting. They all lie and use trickery.

My first introduction to the lying trickery was many years back I was watching a TV presser given by the Police Chief (a friend) held in a park setting and was disappointed to see just a few ppl scattered about. Then found out (with proof) that that there were hundreds and hundreds of people but the camera filmed only those scattered about in the rear of the gathering.

Let’s see how many folks actually show up, especially in bad weather. In New Orleans the media cameramen have had to really use tight focus to make it look like anyone had shown in previous anti-Trump ‘protests’. At one designed to protest Trump and racism in general the attendees were outnumbered by mostly tourist gawkers. One station focused tightly, including but not mentioning the bodies who were gawkers. Another station doing the same protest showed a handful of protestors In thevdesignsted area and far more staring or just standing waiting for a streetcar.
I don’t think I’m going to interrupt exfoliating or flossing until the numbers of protestors outnumber the vendors trying to sell food and beverages at the events.

              • Would you suggest that I seek out a grief councillor? My pastor has reached out to me letting me know I can call him anytime. In fact I have a few people that said I could do that. But, except for maybe my pastor, who is also called to be a counselor to their congregation. I’m hesitant to burden my lead at work, yes she has been very supportive during this last couple days. But I don’t know how far I should go with this willingness to talk to me anytime I feel the need to talk.

My guitar teacher is the other person who reached out in this way. Because we both know that the years we have spent together we’ve become friends. And he’s been there through starting to learn guitar right after my father died, when my husband and I had finally decided to get married after living together for years. But even though I appreciate his willingness to talk to me anytime, I want to make sure I respect our friendship.

I’m also going to seek out a small group from my church for widows and widowers.

Not knowing your pastors, I can’t say, but
I saw the Hospice grief counselor after the first meeting in her private counseling practice. Hospice Grief counselors deal with grief/loss survival every day and could give you immediate tips. Counselors are for long term care. Pastors tend to be very busy.

There is also a program called GriefShare for later, if it is offered in your town at one of the churches. It is like DivorceCare and has proven tactics for survival as you adjust/transition into life without your husband.

May the Lord be with you, His near Presence and holy Peace, surround you above, beneath, go before you and watch over you, the light of the Holy Spirit guide you and make this time Holy. Amen.

Dear Karen, For such a time of sorrow and loss…

Stay close in His Word. Use hymns and Bible (especially the Psalms) to comfort you. They will definitely do that.

If you are Catholic or Anglican go to Eucharist/Communion every day.
If you are Protestant, begin every morning with a communion service – use the one from your hymnal.

I pray you have family and trusted friends to help you through the details and the aftermath of getting things organized and settled.

If you have specific prayer needs, we have a prayer room at CTH – just look on the right side of your screen for the lit candle.

Take care, dear lady, know we are praying.

Oh Karen, I am so sorry to hear this. Since you posted a couple of days ago that he did not come home as usual and you had the police out looking for him, many of us have been praying and wondering what happened. I so hope you found him first. I will pray now that you can place your grief in the infinite heart of Jesus and find comfort there.

Obama Expands Surveillance Powers on His Way Ou

………New rules issued by the Obama administration under Executive Order 12333 will let the NSA—which collects information under that authority with little oversight, transparency, or concern for privacy—share the raw streams of communications it intercepts directly with agencies including the FBI, the DEA, and the Department of Homeland Security, according to a report today by the New York Times……..
