Sunday October 16th – Open Thread

tomb of the unknown - memorial dayOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

1935 – Will Durant, The Story of Civilization Part 1, pp 193.
This is the tragedy of almost every civilization – that its soul is in its faith, and seldom survives philosophy.

Written when the faith of the highly educated class was already greatly diminished. Add 81 years and consider the lack of faith has spread downward and outward.

Mack Wilberg’s Requiem Aeternam – Mormon Tabernacle Choir

This is a very contemporary choral sound, with superior intonation. Wonderfully arranged orchestra and superbly performed. Destined to become a classic.

The simple Latin text is – Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.
(Eternal rest give to them, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them.)

U.S. Justice Ginsburg backtracks on criticism of NFL’s Kaepernick
    Oct 15th 2016 9:19AM

WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) – U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday called her criticism of National Football League player Colin Kaepernick “inappropriately dismissive and harsh” and said she should not have commented on his protest against racism and police brutality in the United States.

Ginsburg, a liberal justice, told Yahoo News on Monday that Kaepernick was “dumb and disrespectful” for refusing to stand during the national anthem before games.

Kaepernick on Wednesday told reporters that Ginsburg’s comments were “disappointing,” according to media reports.

The statement marked the second time in three months that Ginsburg, the eldest member of the Supreme Court at age 83, backtracked on comments she had made to the media. On July 14, she issued a statement of regret calling remarks she had made criticizing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump “ill-advised.”

In media interviews, she had called Trump “a faker” and joked about moving to New Zealand if he were to win the Nov. 8 election.

Questions Raised Over Weapons Of Mass Effect In San Diego Nukes found at Port pt 1. – YouTube

Apparently WMD have been found in the U.S. …though they do not want us to know that…it becomes that much more astonishing that Hillary Clinton would in a Pay-To-Play arrangement with the Iragi JAFAR family, that includes Saddam Hussein’s rogue nuclear physicist Dr. Jafar Dhia Jafar …a 35 year lease to nexus of national security Port Canaveral–where our nuclear submarines are berthed…with NO CIFIUS or FINSA Intel review…Outrageously illegal and stunningly dangerous to Floridians and all Americans.

        What happened to WMD?

Why do they constantly change well-established terms?
These must be the same people who insist on calling ISIS ISIL and insist there’s nothing “Islamic” about both. Or either.

As always, one suspects their motivation is to hide something. One is likely right.

        • anthonydog says:

        • Notmeagain says:

An EMP would have a mass effect without destruction, and so could a dirty bomb. Both would be deadly and kill their target population, leaving all the assets in place for later collection by the enemy.

        • Millwright says:

WME encompasses a wider scope of “weaponized” devices and materials ndm ! Infrastructure destruction isn’t a terrorist org’s objective, ( generally the opposite). Its the inhabitants and their society ! Hence ” Mass Effect ” can equally be some sort of gas or highly communicable disease, as a clean or dirty bomb or nuclear device.

I read in Anthony Dog’s report, Gvmt circumvented SOP, bypassing review.

Kind of reminds me of Benghazi “Special Mission”, later attempted dub as a US Consolate. SOS Clinton circumvented all law, policy regarding procedure and congress permission to enact an unconstitional war. Of course, all those backdoor deals will come into play. Remember, public hearings, private hearings. Gang of 8. Espionge. Treason.

The liberals throwing out all of those phony Trump stories about sexual assaults, so this is really funny.

Blame Z Russians This may be a little off subject but it needs to be thought about. With all the noise out there designed to distract the American people, one thing that is troubling to me is the constant drumbeat put out by the MSM and the Clinton camp,is the constant reference to Russian hacking or so called hacking. I fear that if Trump wins by a large margin, and I believe he will, this will be the perfect excuse to invalidate the election results. They have done a great job setting the table for this scenario. If Trump is so far behind in the MSM polling, then why are they still throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him? Why did Obama put the department of homeland security in charge of the election? Forgive me I’m not a conspiracy nut. Im just stating the obvious. I expect this election to be the weirdest election ever. I don’t see Oboma handing the keys over to Trump. I wouldn’t rule anything out when it comes to this administration. I will be curious to read what others think.

I wanted to share this quote with everyone here, it was mentioned in our sermon today centering around persistence and persistent faith:

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
    ― Calvin Coolidge

It struck home for me, not just in regards to faith, but in regards to DJT as well as the movement behind him working for a better America. For all of us “deplorables” and “irredeemables” that Shillary has so graciously placed in her baskets, one of the things that we have going for us is we are persistent Americans, and we WILL see our country made great again. No matter what the MSM or Demoncrats throw at us, we will press on stronger than before.

Thanks for your time. Trump 2016 and MAGA

PS – searching for this Coolidge quote, he had some others near the top of the list ( that are quite applicable to our situation today. I thought of putting a few of them here, but didn’t want to overwhelm.

  33. Cogitosus says:

    Dear Mr. Crouch,

I have just now finished reading your October 10th editorial “Speak Truth to Trump” in which you call Mr. Trump a “fool” and an “idolater” and castigate Evangelicals for uncritically endorsing his presidential campaign. Obviously, as the executive editor of Christianity Today you have a right to your opinion. As a long-time reader and subscriber I also have a right to cancel my subscription. Please do so at your earliest convenience.

You seem to imagine that I am an irresponsible half-wit who needs your sanctimonious help to discern Mr. Trump’s true motivation for risking his life and his family’s future in order to break down the fortress of corruption protecting his opponent, Mrs. Clinton. Perhaps when you are willing to take equivalent risks you will acquire the standing to criticize both him and his supporters and I will take your opinions seriously.

I am not blind to Mr. Trump’s faults but I am voting for my president and not my pastor. This is a civil war and, as Lincoln said of the alcoholic Grant, “I cannot spare this man – he fights.” Have you heard him speak? Have you seen the crowds? Do you really think that your “christian” back-biting and defamation serve any good purpose? If Trump does not win this election you can kiss Christian America, and your right to free speech, goodbye. So who is the real fool?

It’s very trying having to listen to sanctimonious blather from a multitude of “Christian” expositors who feel the need to tell fellow believers that we don’t measure up to their ideas of what is proper attitude and behavior. We’ve certainly had more than our share of smug opinions this election season.

Frankly, I prefer flawed people who–despite their moral flaws and sins–love their families, show kindness toward their employees, who expect excellence, who pay decent wages, who assist strangers, who are more than concerned about the growing lack of freedom in our nation, and about the top-down corruption which destroys our future.

Yes, give me such flawed people over the holier-than-thou any day.

    Hi all.

I don’t see any where in the comment guidelines on what the process is for posting pictures (jpeg or otherwise) and videos. I’ve posted videos before but what is the process for posting pics? Do I need to have a Photobucket type account to import a simple jpeg or can I just drag it into the comment section? Thanks in advance for any help you can give…

    • andi lee says:

Hi Harry, from what I understand, the photo’s origin must be housed on the web first, with the jpg ext or sim. When posting here the link must be seperated by linespace from other text.

I have no trouble with videos, copy and paste function, but I do have trouble with posting photos off web, hit and miss, sometimes deletition of certain code in link is necessary, there I run into trouble. These, treepers are kind in sharing their knowledge, when they’re available. Give it a go. Good luck!

  35. Harry Lime says:

    Thanks andi lee!

So if I understand your first paragraph correctly then I do need to have a photo-sharing account of some kind? Like Photobucket or similar app?
