ohio mohamed barryMohamed Barry, 30, carried a machete into an Ohio restaurant and began chopping at people.

However, Barry was known to the FBI, and was in their suspect database because of prior radical jihadist threats he made.

But that didn’t stop the Columbus police spokesman Rich Weiner from proclaiming:

“There’s nothing to lead us to believe this is anything more than a random attack.”

I doubt there is severe enough sarcasm possible here; because everyone knows “random attack” is generally defined as a self-proclaimed Muslim jihadist walking into a kosher deli, which coincidentally is named, Nazareth Restaurant and Deli, and chopping people up with a machete.

C’mon, happens all the time – right?  Nothing to see here folks, move along, step right this way… move along now.  Pay no attention to the Jihad near the counter.

OHIO, VIA ABC – The machete-wielding man who allegedly injured four people in an attack at an Ohio restaurant before he was shot and killed by police was known to the FBI, but not under full scale investigation, law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

The suspect, identified as Mohamed Barry, 30, according to Franklin County Coroner Dr. Anahi Ortiz, was in a law enforcement database which includes names potentially related to terrorism, sources said. Being in the database would have flagged him if he came in contact with local authorities.

The FBI is investigating the suspect’s motive, Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs said at a news conference this afternoon, adding that the motive is not yet clear.

Barry had a Columbus address, but police do not yet know where he is from, Jacobs said.

The man’s attack was first reported at the Nazareth Restaurant and Deli in Columbus around 6 p.m. Thursday, the Columbus Police Department said today. The man allegedly walked into the restaurant, had a conversation with an employee and left, before returning about 30 minutes later, according to the Associated Press. That’s when he allegedly approached a man and a woman sitting by the door and launched his attack, the AP reported.

“Some guy pulled out a machete and started stabbing people,” one mother said in a 911 call obtained by ABC News. “I ran out with my kids.” She said she was calling from another store’s bathroom with her two young children.

“My wife just called me in a panic,” another 911 caller said, “telling me that a guy in the restaurant’s stabbing people. And she’s hiding, I think, out in the back. She cut her hand pretty bad.”  (read more)

UPI has this disingenuously worded write up:

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 13 (UPI) The FBI is investigating a machete-wielding man who was shot and killed by police after he allegedly injured four at an Ohio deli.

Investigators said Mohamed Barry, 30, was listed in an FBI database after making radical comments about four years ago. The ongoing investigation is said to involve a look into Barry’s virtual footprint and a search of his home, with an eye on a possible link to a terror organization such as the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh.

There’s nothing to lead us to believe this is anything more than a random attack,” Columbus police spokesman Rich Weiner told The Columbus Dispatch.

Police said Barry walked into the Nazareth Restaurant and Deli between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday and immediately began hacking at those inside with the weapon. (more)
