Ted Cruz Launches Internet Data-Mining “Stazi” APP To Identify Friends and Phone Contacts of Cruz Supporters…

If you begin to receive weird phone text messages, Facebook contacts and weird emails from the Cruz campaign, it’s probably because one of your “friends” is a Ted Cruz supporter – and he or she has you in their contact list.

ted cruz largeAn alarming article from the Associated Press explains how Ted Cruz has moved his campaign from direct cyber contact to data-mining and spyware within the contacts on phones and social media of Ted Cruz supporters.

According to the Associated Press outline the Cruz campaign has launched an app which targets the “friends” list of Facebook supporters of Ted Cruz, and extracts their information for use:

[…]  The Cruz app prompts supporters to register using their Facebook logins, giving the campaign access to personal information such as name, age range, gender, location and photograph, plus lists of friends and relatives. Those without a Facebook account must either provide an email address or phone number to use the app. (link)

But the Cruz campaign doesn’t limit themselves to just social media.  According to the media report the campaign is also retrieving, extracting and targeting those names and phone numbers within the supporters cell phone:

[…]  The Cruz app separately urges users to let it download their phone contacts, giving the campaign a trove of phone numbers and personal email addresses. The campaign says that by using its app, “You hereby give your express consent to access your contact list.”

[…]  Cruz’s app also transmits to the campaign each user’s physical location whenever the app is active, unless a user declines to allow it. The campaign said it does this “so that we can connect you to other Cruz Crew users based on your particular geographic location.”

In essence if you have a family member, friend or colleague, who is supporting Ted Cruz, the campaign now has access to your personal information for campaign targeting.

This is a remarkable level of intrusion of personal and private information coming from a presidential candidate who purports to be an advocate constitutional privacy and limits on the data-mining of intrusive government.   A particular hypocrisy not lost on the Associated Press:

[…]  Protecting the privacy of law-abiding citizens from the government is a pillar of Ted Cruz’s Republican presidential candidacy, but his campaign is testing the limits of siphoning personal data from supporters.

His “Cruz Crew” mobile app is designed to gather detailed information from its users’ phones — tracking their physical movements and mining the names and contact information for friends who might want nothing to do with his campaign.  (read more)

So now when you begin receiving unsolicited demands for campaign contributions, at least you’ll know where they are coming from.

It would appear the only way to safely insure you are not part of the Stazi-esque spy campaign would be to ask your friends if they support Ted Cruz and immediately delete them from your contact lists.  Well, if it’s not too late that is….

And to think, you thought only President Obama was a risk to your privacy !

    Also, you know Cruz would be screaming if Obama did something like this.

    But for Cruzbots, since he’s this grand ‘Pure Conservative’ any tactic is A-OK. Not only is that hypocritical, its very cult-like.

    I’m sure Levin and Rush will explain this away with a wave of their hand. I’ll even guess how: “Just normal campaigning tactics”.

      By contrast, the app offered by GOP candidate Ben Carson’s campaign asks supporters to surrender the same information as Cruz from their Facebook accounts, but also gives an option to use it without providing any personal information. Carson’s app separately asks users to let the campaign track their movements and asks them to voluntarily supply their birthdate and gender — including options for “male,” ”female” and “other.”

        Political Social Media, LLC boasts about helping Cruz win Iowa…
        We Are the Stealth Startup that Helped Ted Cruz Win Iowa

        A two person team created the most downloaded and sophisticated campaign app of 2016. Here’s how our new tech helped Ted Cruz achieve an historic victory in Iowa, and how it can help other conservative candidates and causes win elections.

        View story at Medium.com

        This 2 man team admit to the Obama scheme:

        The idea for uCampaign began on the evening of November 6, 2012, as President Obama’s superb digital operation and grassroots mobilization combined to defeat Republicans for a second time in a row.

        I became convinced that night the only way to defeat Democrats was to learn from their tech advances, and then leapfrog them.
        […]
        So we decided on a smartphone app, because these apps are not just mobile-first, they are mobile-native: users can act any time and from anywhere, and (with their permission) we gain access to the most valuable digital space a supporter has, including their notifications tray.

        • Ziiggii says:

          further from the article:

          Team Cruz chose uCampaign because it would help them put existing data to use and generate new data. As a phone app it has authorized access to a supporter’s phone address book contacts. That allows it to match those contacts to Cruz’s voter universes and prompt existing supporters to reach out personally to identified potential supporters. To date the feature has matched over a third of a million potential supporters who are contacts of one or more of the app’s current supporters.

          The second source of data are self, individual friend and neighborhood surveys. App supporters have completed over 20,000 political ID surveys about themselves, their friends and their neighbors, generating valuable cross-section data on the supporters’ political views, activism affinities and personal network, essential information for a modern, data-driven campaign.

    The results of the first two states are in, and it’s clear that we are down to a two person race — me vs. Donald Trump!

    You also know — the winner will take on Hillary Clinton.

    (My name, redacted), let me be blunt. I can beat Hillary Clinton. Donald can’t.

    That is why I am asking you — one of my closest and most loyal supporters — will you redouble your support for me today?

    I need you now more than ever, and let me tell you why.

    When I first announced my campaign, Heidi and I committed that we would run an issues oriented, positive campaign. Unfortunately, my friend, Donald Trump, didn’t make that same commitment.

    While Donald continues with personal attacks — and vulgar profanities — I do not intend to respond, but that won’t stop Donald.

    He is so rattled by my surge in the polls, our victory in Iowa, and our strong finish in New Hampshire that he has decided to continue his scorched earth campaign in an attempt to burn down everyone and everything in his path.

    There is a great deal of factual information included in the various sourced articles. What is actually scary is that what Cruz is doing is based on what Obama has also been doing. Each victim being spied upon is being psychologically analyzed as to “predictive behavior,” and beliefs about government policies. This is so very traditional Communist policy at work, and historically why so many Russians were sent to the gulags. This is corrupt privacy intrusion intended to falsely incriminate Americans; ultimate surveillance power which tends to reveal just how involved with Obama and NSA Ted Cruz is. He is a criminal in action.

    Exclusive: Documents reveal donor-funded US startup embedded in Republican’s campaign paid UK university academics to collect psychological profiles on potential voters
    Harry Davies
    @harryfoxdavies email
    Friday 11 December 2015 17.22 EST
    “A little-known data company, now embedded within Cruz’s campaign and indirectly financed by his primary billionaire benefactor, paid researchers at Cambridge University to gather detailed psychological profiles about the US electorate using a massive pool of mainly unwitting US Facebook users built with an online survey.

    As part of an aggressive new voter-targeting operation, Cambridge Analytica – financially supported by reclusive hedge fund magnate and leading Republican donor Robert Mercer – is now using so-called “psychographic profiles” of US citizens in order to help win Cruz votes, despite earlier concerns and red flags from potential survey-takers.

    Documents seen by the Guardian have uncovered longstanding ethical and privacy issues about the way academics hoovered up personal data by accessing a vast set of US Facebook profiles, in order to build sophisticated models of users’ personalities without their knowledge.

    It means you have a wild west, where the campaigns can do whatever they want and get away with it
    Christopher Soghoian, ACLU
    In the race to advance data-driven electioneering strategies pioneered by successive Obama campaigns, Cruz has turned to Cambridge Analytica for its unparalleled offering of psychological data based on a treasure trove of Facebook “likes”, allowing it to match individuals’ traits with existing voter datasets, such as who owned a gun.

    Analysis of Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings shows Cruz’s campaign has paid Cambridge Analytica at least $750,000 this year. The “behavioural microtargeting” company has also received around $2.5m over the past two years from conservative Super Pacs to which Mercer or members of his family have donated.

    In an interview with the Guardian last month, Cruz said his funding and outreach apparatus “is very much the Obama model – a data-driven, grassroots-driven campaign – and it is a reason why our campaign is steadily gathering strength”.
    [There is much more factual information in this sourced article]

    “Cruz tells voters exactly what they want to hear, blurring the lines of truth into outright lies.
    This is the manipulation of wholesome America. Citizens are being drugged with Cruzalizing diatribes. Meanwhile in your backyard he has been rubbish gathering and snooping, and then busily painting each person separately into a micro-whitewash of psychological profiling.”

    “An article appeared in Bloomberg Politics, November 12, 2015 entitled, “Cruz-Connected Data Miner Aims to Get Inside U.S. Voters’ Heads,” by Sasha Issenberg, who traveled to the UK to investigate this futuristic phenomenon of Ted’s psychographic data mining. Issenberg even said, “The firm [Cambridge Analytica] promised to tell me things I might not even know about myself.”
    (Source http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/features/2015-11-12/is-the-republican-party-s-killer-data-app-for-real- )
    Cambridge Analytica brags that they can predict your future behavior of voters by analyzing 5 big personality traits they called OCEAN. They have devised a plotted description attached to a numerical assessment that targets individual voters, based on a “psychographic score” of your presumed personality traits.
    Here is what the not-so-complimentary acronym, OCEAN, stands for:
    O – OPENNESS;
    C – CONSCIENTIOUSNESS;

    This kind of NSA type datamining and intrusion in private lives thru tentacles is A GOOD REASON FOR TED CRUZ’s SUPPORTERS TO UNSUBSCRIBE THEMSELVES! or else get into trouble with their family and friends among other penalties. If they give Ted the right to phish for private info on people unrelated to Ted’s campaign, they better be ready for backlash.

    Any Trump supporters, report the Ted Cruz fan who enabled release of your private data back to them and warn them they’d better stop and at the same time unsubscribe themselves from Ted, and vote for Trump. Address any concerns they have about Trump with the factual info you’ve learned from here and convert them!

    My husband was leaning towards Trump but still liked Cruz this article just put him 100% in the Trump camp. It is creepy just like the candidate. Share it with others who are leaning, this will convince them not to support Cruz.

    Cruz accidentally hired a porn star to act in his latest Trump smear campaign. Once he found out he promptly pulled the ad. I kind of hope Trump hires her for one of his ads. So when the media asks him about it, he can say he wants to give her a chance at turning her life around. Making America Great, one person at a time.

    Ted Cruz Personal Email – May Include Privileged Communication

    Friend,

    Do you have a few minutes to read my email?

    I hope you will stop what you are doing for just a moment and let me explain…

    The results of the first two states are in, and it’s clear that we are down to a two person race — me vs. Donald Trump!

    You also know — the winner will take on Hillary Clinton.

    Friend, let me be blunt.

    I can’t fault Donald for this…it’s the only way he can distract voters from his record:
    Support for Hillary-style healthcare;
    Support for partial birth abortion;
    Support for bank bailouts;
    Support for Obama stimulus; and
    Enthusiastic embrace of eminent domain.
    Friend, will you help me set the record straight?

    Without your help, he might get away with it…and if he does, say hello to President Hillary Clinton.

    That’s why I need your immediate help.

    As I write this email to you, I’m being briefed that our Iowa and New Hampshire campaigns have taken a significant toll on my campaign budget. As of today, I’m still $490,700 short of my mid-month budget for February.

    With South Carolina voting next in just days — I can’t afford to come up short. That’s why I’m turning to you again. Will you help me make up the difference by using one of the secure links below?

    MAKE THE DIFFERENCE: I will help with $5 >>

    MAKE THE DIFFERENCE: I will help with $35 >>

    MAKE THE DIFFERENCE: I will help with $50 >>

    MAKE THE DIFFERENCE: I will help with $250 >>

    MAKE THE DIFFERENCE: I will help with $500 >>

    MAKE THE DIFFERENCE: I will help with $2700 >>

    You can make a HUGE impact on this campaign and help me win this nomination with an IMMEDIATE contribution — no matter how small.

    There is great strength in numbers.

    With your personal contribution, you’ll also be sending a big message to Donald Trump that tearing others down and misleading voters is not the best way to unite conservatives and make America great again.

    Friend, I’ll set the record straight on Donald’s false attacks, secure the Republican nomination, AND DEFEAT HILLARY, but I can only get there with your continued help.

    This is our time!

    Together, we will reignite liberty in America.

    For liberty,

    Ted Cruz

    I always remember what I learned in my advanced religion courses…The Anti-Christ will NOT be someone who is a Joe six-pack like Trump…it’s instead someone who will come and wrap themselves in the scripture and claim to be of YWH.

    I read here that someone said Cruz is like Elmer Gantry (spelling?). I say he is not that sweet or innocent. I say he is more like the monster from “The Night of the Hunter” instead….someone who doesn’t believe in YWH at all but instead in only himself and in money and power.

    Last time I checked the Bible, I thought it mentioned that money and power for their own sake are evil.

    But hey, what do I know? I am only a vulgarian no-nothing.

    Please watch the old film, “The Night of the Hunter”….that monster is what I see every time I look at the false “prophet” (“profit”?) Cruz. Be warned, Cruz worshipers.

    Good article on the Ted Cruz/David Barton/Televangelist/Megachurch pastor connections.

    If it’s been posted before, I didn’t see it so apologies in advance:

    Nothing new here. Obama did the same thing in 2012—and won. Do a search for Civis Analytics and Obama. Thing is, like it or not, at least Cruz is being up front about the app and its purpose—winning.

      Is it ethical? I mean I know rubio supporters that hate Trump, but are starting to hate Cruz a lot more based on the tactics he’s been using lately. Which is honestly amazing, since these are people that had Cruz as a second choice until recently. Don’t misunderstand though, I support Trump and he’s used a lot of insults which I thought went a bit too far. But, my point is that Cruz is burning a lot of bridges with his tactics, and I’m not sure it’ll even be worth it for him in the end.
