WASHINGTON DC – The Department of Homeland Security has launched an investigation into reports that someone with a DHS IP address edited Wikipedia pages to include references to an alleged affair involving House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who bowed out of the race for speaker Thursday.

The California Republican stunned the conference with his decision, saying the House needs a “fresh face” to lead and suggesting he could not unite conservatives.

But reports of infidelity on conservative websites hung over the decision, and were cited in apparent revisions to Wikipedia pages.

cartoonspyWashington Free Beacon reporter Lachlan Markay first noted on Twitter that “someone using a DHS IP address” made the edits to Rep. Renee Ellmers’ Wikipedia page. The Daily Caller noted a similar edit was made to McCarthy’s page, referencing a report by controversial conservative writer Charles Johnson on an alleged affair between the two.

DHS spokeswoman Marsha Catron told Fox News the edits are being investigated.

“DHS has immediately launched an investigation into this serious matter. If it is discovered that a DHS employee, using Government property, is responsible for these alleged actions, immediate and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” she said in a statement. (read more)

Like a lot of things-Bush opened the door, maybe even to do something well meaning to protect the American public-but Obama has weaponized these tactics and procedures against us. This is always the problem in giving the federal government any power outside of that originally in the Constitution that is not enumerated and strictly limited.

Decades…try over 150 years ago in 1861 when Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus during the Civil War. Same excuse as used today…it’s always, “The threats we face today are so much worse than before. And it will only be temporary. When this unprecedented crisis passes, we will definitely turn back the click and put back the Constitutional protections that make this country great. And we are serious this time. We’ll never have to do this again. Ever. We mean it. Really, we do. Honest. Promise. Pinky swear.”

It started long before Bush. The Patriot Act made it worse but it was happening long before then. Every generation sees the government become more powerful while they lose more freedoms. It’s just that fewer people can deny it now.

Yup. The NSA isn’t for catching terrorists. It’s now for blackmailing legislators, Supreme Court justices, etc. I don’t mean to imply that whoever edited the Wiki pages should have kept quiet. This McCarthy-Ellmers affair has been all over the web for a couple of weeks. Whenever you want to seriously drop an info bomb, put on a disguise, put on gloves and walk (not drive) to a big city public library. Ask one of the homeless guys if he can stop surfing porn for a while so you can use the computer.

I’m reminded of a story I’ve shared before which, I think, might suggest the easiest way to clean Washington, DC out.

This appeared in the Reader’s Digest back in the ’50s:

Someone who lived within the inner circles of government and society and high finance in England got to thinking about things one day. Decided to check out some of what he was reflecting on. Had to do with corruption and sleaze factor among the high ‘n mighty types.

He sent the following telegram to twelve of the top Very Important People throughout England. The telegram was not signed or sourced. It just said:

All is discovered. Flee at once.

Within twenty-four hours, all twelve had left England.

You, as a voting, taxpaying citizen have every right to contact congress, both houses. Now a lot of them now (in effort to limit spam and the actual number of emails they get weekly) go through their contact page, and make you put in your zipcode, so you’re in their district. So they ones that have that, I either call or fax, and now tweet some.

WSB, yes, if you have a district email, you could do that. This is one of the few areas where I will cut congress some slack. On a weekly basis, they can receive thousands of just emails alone. (YES, the taxpayer owns it all) but to have any kind of efficient system (they used to get auto-slammed on almost every big issue, by both sides) this is apparently IT’s way to limit the volume a bit.

Maybe folks felt they had enough on him to make him do their will?

It just seems so fishy that suddenly McCarthy was the savior of the GOP. How bizarre.

      The possibilities are:

They really are worried that the establishment Republicans will now be unable to control Conservatives, causing angst
The angst is fake, they are trying to get the masses to freak out in order to gain leverage and manipulate the conservatives into voting for an establishment friendly speaker

    • This seems to be a standard Uniparty tactic – to facilitate some kind of compromising interaction for people they want to control.

What I find fascinating is that the Republicans, or at least some of them, are finally taking communist blackmail seriously. I suspect that a lot of the media’s breathless screams of “disarray” and “chaos” are really cover for the fact that their Democrat/Uniparty masters are now unhappily aware of the disruptive fact that the opposition is onto a primary communist hack of the Constitution.

The Speaker is third in line to the presidency. This is the most important thing about the job I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere in the last two days. Yet when it’s possible that Biden or any of the other old candidates ready to kick off could be president, so that a catspaw VP could be ready to take over, it seems to me something to consider in an increasingly ruthless environment. What if a Republican were president?

    • Brilliant observation. ^^^ THIS. ^^^

The Obama plot was meticulous. The use of “Weekend at Bernie’s” Biden as Obama’s life-insurance policy, and then getting commie Pelosi in as Speaker, was essential to keeping communist continuity. Having the leveraged Boehner was crucial to keep the scam going. Things are getting dicier now, and they need contingency – BADLY.

Also NotMe, and also, study of the Constitution tells me that, if a Speaker of the House, is not immediately voted on and replaced, all legislative business stops, goes on the back burner, until no matter how many rounds of ballets, a new Speaker is elected. (That is because a Speaker is the 3rd in line for Presidency.

3×1, yes they could. It is a bad idea to begin with. It was formed after 9/11, in haste, due to the fact that different agencies , CIA, DIA, FBI, etc were not talking or sharing potential info to prevent this. Now, none of them talk, and they don’t talk to DHS either, but we have a great big new bureaucracy..

Clinton vs Bush was and is ‘the 2016 plan’. Picture now McCarthy as useful idiot, placeholder SOH.

McC tasked by Uniparty big’s to aid HC via statements damaging to Benzi Cmtte claiming it was established to politically persecute/ prosecute her. Outcome: enraged Trey/ Conservatives and some sympathy for HC.

McC gets torpedoed with affair rumors pre-wiki and within wiki – by Uniparty or Conservatives?

Possible Uniparty motive – bait then switch to ‘real’ SOH choice: the more telegenic and enduring Paul Ryno GOPe puppet. Adding to the drama and ‘sell’ Boehner may have to stay -> designed to help ppl embrace Ryno.
Possible Conservative motive – knock out the GOPe puppet MCarthy- believing Daniel Webster would have a fair shot and beat out Chaffetz for SOH. BOOM! Paul Ryno displaces DW and JC!

Doesn’t matter who fired the torpedos: Uniparty wins. Conservatives lose.
McC resigns with some secret swag and slithers to K Street. DHS IP discovered to be untraceable and investigation fizzles.

All of this brings to light once again why Trump and Carson are so popular. The men and the women in Washington have the reputation of doing anything and everything to keep their power. They will walk over and hurt people, including their families. Many seem to lose their morals( if they still had them by the time they get to DC.
These men and women remind me of Rome’s corrupt Republic, except for women serving and Christians have not been thrown to the lions, yet. Cicero had some great comments:

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
