Homeland Security Issues Terror “Warnings” For July 4th Holiday…

Unfortunately because former Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson is now head of the DHS, and specifically because Secretary Jeh Johnson is in that position as a result of his use of a career IOU for keeping his mouth shut in May 2011, and with full acceptance that Jeh Johnson is a political operative of the highest order, we are faced with the following consideration filter:

Is there really a heightened or anticipatory threat, or is Secretary Johnson merely trying to cover his ass in the event that something actually happens – so he can look back and say “we gave warnings”.

You decide.

(Via USA Today) Federal authorities have warned local law enforcement officials across the country about a heightened concern involving possible terror attacks targeting the July 4th holiday, a U.S. law enforcement official said.

While there was no specific or credible threat of attack, the official said the intelligence bulletin prepared by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI alerted local colleagues to the ongoing threats posed by the Islamic State and other homegrown extremists. The official was not authorized to comment publicly.

The bulletins are frequently issued in advance of major U.S. holidays out of an abundance of caution and concern that operatives may exploit the timing to generate greater attention.

The warning comes as federal investigators have worked to disrupt a number of Islamic State-inspired plots, including a planned assault earlier this month on police officers in Boston. In that case, authorities fatally shot Usaamah Rahim as he allegedly planned to attack police with military-style knives.

Also this month, a New York suspect in a Islamic State-related terror investigation was arrested after attacking an FBI agent with a kitchen knife during a search of his home. (read more)

…. because it is entirely plausible this smarmy excuse for an official might also be entirely comfortable ruining a July 4th holiday based entirely on his ideological hatred for the very existence of the country being celebrated by the holiday.

And no, I’m not going to far with my criticism.

Sounds like typical DHS alert to keep everyone on toes. They say they have no specific threat. They issue these all the time. Makes LE feel important.

One of the rationales for the Iraq and Afghan Wars was “If we didn’t fight it there, we would have to fight it here”
Barack Obama chose not to fight it there.

    Sundance,
You are absolutely correct in this.
It costs nothing to issue a warning. A warning does several things- it supports budget and mission. It also absolves the warner. The issue of warning paradox also comes into play… if a intelligence warning is issued, and whatever is warned against did not happen, what does that mean? It may mean that something was thwarted, or that nothing was going to happen in the first place.
Without specific, credible information and concrete actions, these nebulous blatherings from the party apparatus are useless, except to maintain an environment of fear and uncertainty. People who are afraid will do things that they otherwise would not. Consider it a technique of high pressure sales.

        Col.(R) Ken,
Remember the color coded threat gauges they used to post all the time? It was absurd.

What I find stunning is that we have a MASSIVE security apparatus, yet events still "happen". This is the nature of it, DHS and all they have is merely a cleanup and paperwork organization, as bad actors just flow around them like fish in a stream or illegal immigrants at the border.

There are never "enough" people or resources to guard against everything. The resulting fear, chaos & psychological tension are used as tools of the puppet masters to move the sheeple.

Folks need to think about this... if the massive security apparatus is largely reactive in nature, what does that really mean? I'll leave it as an unanswered question.

They’re mobilizing the police force here in Chicago and not allowing officers to take the weekend off anymore. I wouldn’t say it doesn’t cost anything.

I’m sure this warning is more CYA than an indication of actual threats at specified locations or events. Its coming too early for one thing. There are discrete organizations with pre-plans and defined operations/operators permanently in place for all large public events.

But the timing of this release does lend credence to your supposition, Sundance. It comes early enough for folks to alter their holiday plans. And I’d agree the current Administration wouldn’t be ‘displeased’ if the warning had the ancillary effect of reducing attendance at patriotically -themed events.

Well, I for one would blame them. If something were to happen, the fact that they don’t have specific or credible intelligence would mean they don’t know how to do their jobs or spending far too much of their time and money spying on and harassing the wrong people.

So, since their #1 job is to protect the citizens of this country, what are they doing to make sure we are secure? Is that border secure yet? Did they find that truck full of U.S. ID’s that was stolen in Mexico yet? TSA all trained up and ready?

I have an idea. How about an America’s Most Wanted Terrorist List, since they are “tracking” terrorists in all 50 states (that’s 57 for some of us). Let us help.

No, then we would have to name our enemy..

The wide open southern border that is run 35 miles in by ruthless drug gangs would be a perfect place and partnership for radical terrorists flush with cash to pay for safe trips across that border with a goody bag or two. Every night they move TONS of product across that border and thousands of people uncontested since the directives won’t allow the BP and ICE to do their jobs. Don’t bet me cause I live very close by there and have friends who work the areas. You should be very scared………

I flew to Texas this weekend and read “White Girl Bleed a lot” on the way there and read “Don’t make the black kids angry” on the way back. In those books Colin Flaherty details most of the black mobs that infest these community celebrations. So much black mob violence in some towns that they have cancelled the festivities.
