Saturday Open Thread – June 6th

tomb of the unknown - memorial dayOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Yeah, I’m curious to know how many of this man’s 34 children (and their mothers) were supported entirely by him vs how many have been supported by the American taxpayer (EBT, TANF, Section 8 rental assistance, heating assistance, cash assistance, Pell grants, etc).

Maybe some investigative reporters could do a little legwork on that.

Or perhaps the pay from the show for children and moms would tip the scales of income limits and they would lose all of their government benefits (if they are receiving any :/) , and they weren’t willing to take the risk of losing a sure income with benefits.

      Aim of series:
“to follow Jay as he worked to put his life and fractured relationships in order and HOLD HIM ACCOUNTABLE every step of the way”

it would seem an unaccomplishable feat to even attempt to make Jay (a black man with 34 kids) accountable, the cable show contacted mothers and children and probably got too much ghetto slack, a daughter said, “I really don’t care anymore”

I can understand Oprah trying to get him cash to support himself and 34 kids, but marketing research figured it wouldn’t turn them into the Kardashians, how about a catchy title like “Taxpayers Keeping Up With Jays Spawn” complete with running $ meter clicking away, actual courtroom and jail visits, mothers trash talking Jay with new boyfriends, who have to be interviewed separately because they are in rival gangs, maybe one son doing a drive by shooting on another son, or a daughter pregnant by a new son she met on the set, one son going to “keep up” with dad by promising to break his 34 record

*A sticker with the correct language will be placed over the offending words, Coplan told the Times.

“We feel that this (prank) was a disservice not only to our students but to sanitation workers, to imply that their work is anything less than admirable,” he added.*

So, at first what Coplan found offensive was that it implied people will become trash collectors (because that job is insulting). But then he is offended that trash collectors are being disparaged (because that job is not insulting).

Sounds like one side of his brain is offended by the other side.

Additionally, it was 11 years ago that we lost Ronald Reagan. I am very happy to have been alive and cognizant while he was president. To be able to see a true conservative and lover of G-d, family and country in charge of The United States of America. Yes, of course, he made mistakes – everyone does.

One thing Mark Levin brings up occasionally is that the youth of today have no idea that such a MAN existed. They have no idea that such MEN exist. They’ve been educated to fear such MEN. (That last line is mine)

“Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world – “No, you move.”” – Captain America

VERY cool. Grandson Tibbets sounds like a great guy. We’re lucky to have him.

The article doesn’t mention that the Enola Gay was named after Tibbets’ Mom, Grandson Tibbets’ Great Grandmother. It’s like a “full circle” story. I like those.

Now … let’s get back to reality:
“A 2014 report from the Congressional Research Service said the nation’s existing long-range bomber fleet ‘are at a critical point in their operational life span.’ Because of their age, the report said, ‘military analysts are beginning to question just how long these aircraft can physically last and continue to be credible weapon systems.'” Obama’s plan is working just the way he’s planned it.

It’s an excellent book, with no comments by Studs himself, just stories as told in interviews with both Allied and Axis people, both military and civilian.

That’s not what I saw at all. There were TWO police cars and TWO police officers with their weapons drawn. Taylor was very obviously in the group at the red pickup when the second officer turned up.
He initially walked with the group towards the first police officer, then this man decided to walk away from where the policemen had stopped and I presume had told people to stay put (that is what they normally do), I have no idea why two police cars were called or even if they were called) to the convenience store but if you are standing with a group of people and two officers turn up, you just plain look guilty of something by turning your back and walking away the way he did. The first officer (to Taylor’s right at about 90 degrees) would be clearly visible to him.
That would be two officers with guns drawn, yelling at you to stop, get your hands up or get on the ground or whatever. To continue sauntering away is just plain stupid AND makes you look like you are guilty of SOMETHING. Then to put your hands in your pants and turn around, while backing away and calling a policeman “fool” before making a move, even if it is innocent is just plain stupid. Darwinism at work right there.

Got a call yesterday from an old friend who’s out traveling. He’s a Vietnam vet too and called to let me now he was in a real Vietnamese restaurant in an eastern state and was ordering my favorite – bo kho – sort of rubbing it in. I suggested that if he hadn’t ordered his drink yet he ask the waitress for ‘Saigon Tea’. Just as I thought, she was two generations too young to know what that was so instead of asking she trots off to the owner and says the guest’s ordered something she doesn’t recognize. The owner, an older Vietnamese woman about our age, comes over and asks what he wants and he smilingly says ‘Saigon Tea’. There was a moment of silence (his phone was on) and suddenly there were huge peals of laughter that must have lasted three minutes. Friend said she sat down, she was laughing so hard, and said that ‘no one order hat here for many years’. He got a free meal.

B-girls in Vietnam had to stay sober to squeeze that last drops of paycheck out of GIs too young to vote but not too young to be there. They’d order expensive drinks for themselves (of course the GIs would pay) and get a cut of each one from the house. The more enterprising b-girls would order ‘champagne cocktails’ or something equally ‘exotic’ and unfailingly non-alcohol while the ones who were more experienced who were dealing with more experienced GIs, both realizing it was just a mini-emotional fiscal transaction, would just order ‘Saigon Tea’ which became a universal term for a booze-free b-girl drink some lonely GI would buy.

According to the letter sent [from High School Students] to Tom Torlakson, current U.S. history standards in California “fail to adequately address” such issues as the history and culture of American Indians, the “genocide of Native Americans in North America,” the “centrality of slavery to the development of U.S. capitalism and the genocidal realities of U.S. slavery, the “true extent of U.S. war crimes during WWII,” “recent wars of aggression and major war crimes committed by U.S. government in the Middle East,” and several other issues.

LOS ALTOS (KPIX 5) — A group of students at Los Altos High School want California history
textbooks revised, claiming the current textbooks don’t tell the whole story.
The students claim the version of American history taught in California classrooms is at best incomplete and at worst biased and inaccurate: failing to adequately cover the experiences,

These emails also support the early reporting by Sundance at Conservative Treehouse that drew attention to the notification requirements for the relevant committee chairs, Rogers, and Congressional Leadership, Boehner and McConnell.

Always glad to see CTH getting a mention…

I live 20 minutes away from Cleveland and I haven’t set foot in it for 25 years. I won’t attend anything there. We are still waiting for the decision about the cop who shot the twelve year old who had the fake pistol. I must admit it was unfathomably stupid for those cops to roll up ten feet from that kid, and just as stupid for the kid to reach for his fake gun. We shall see how things work out with these new rules, I sure wouldn’t want to be a police officer now.

    Good article at American Thinker:
    http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2015/06/when_is_enough_enough.html

We must, as men and women of liberty and faith, read the times as best possible and determine our collective course in the face of perils. We’ve amply described the trouble. Isn’t it time to dialogue regularly about what can be done to turn the tide? And then act?

Leftists are deadly serious in their aims; they’re determined to win. They seek no accommodation with us. Western Civilization — as expressed in the American tradition — and our liberties are on the left’s chopping block. Leftists deny this, and over the decades have become expert at arguing that they merely want more justice, fairness, compassion, and equality.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your love and salvation to all. Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

May Your Divine Presence be felt in the hearts and minds of the Supreme Court Justices as they render their decisions that effects us all.

Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please guide the searchers to those missing from the storms. Comfort those who are grieving and in pain.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
