The school’s opinion of the “teacher, debate coach, and guide for their children” is:

Yeah, sure he does. He also does some other stuff.
(Buzzfeed) However, this seemingly devoted teacher was simultaneously exploiting young boys online for years, according to authorities.
According to the criminal complaint, Cruz created a fake profile on the messaging app KIK using photos of a male former student. The student, who graduated in 2014 and now attends college, is a former member of the debate team and was friends with Cruz on Facebook.
Authorities allege that Cruz stole photos accessible to him through Facebook to create the fake profile.
He then started messaging young boys in multiple states, most of whom were around 15 years old, the complaint says.
Cruz allegedly described himself on the internet as a “nerd” who had a thing for “jocks.”
[…] Cruz enticed the boys to send him naked photographs by bribing them with Visa gift cards worth as much as $500, authorities said.
[…] Authorities said that Cruz admitted to the acts and revealed that he had been engaging in similar chats with minors for years.

The reason I bring up the initial question is because THAT was the public profile image he projected toward his local community, the school, his students and the parents who have children in the school itself.
His illicit activity was done under a pseudonym, but this teachers’ public profile is *inappropriate enough to raise the spidey senses of a generally observant person.
[*Well, at least until pop culture has a few more years to completely destroy the definitions of “appropriate” adult/child behavior].
I’m continually amazed at how brutally, and dangerously, disconnected parents are from the social activity of their children….. IF IT LOOKS CREEPY, IT PROBABLY IS !
…And I bet this “teacher” would have gotten away with it a lot longer were it not for his success making him feel confident to push the envelope outside of his geographic area.
I’d be really interested to find out how he was caught, and if a potential victim’s family was the one who reported the contact. Mr. Cruz’s peers obviously considered his behavior as no biggie.
