Friday Open Thread – October 4th

tomb-of-the-unknown2Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

  3. Obama’s DHS Advisor Mohamed Elibiary Flashes The R4BIA Muslim Brotherhood Salute

“The R4BIA four finger salute has deep meaning in the Muslim Brotherhood. And it is making its way into the Department of Homeland Security. Mohamed Elibiary, one of the most controversial members of the Homeland Security Advisory Panel, just plastered the symbol on his public Twitter profile. This is serious, and deeply disturbing. The symbol has deep meaning in the Muslim Brotherhood, and greater Islam. It is the symbol of Islamic world domination. And the crushing of western democracy. The Islamic infiltration of all levels of American government is coming to fruition…”

It’s not nice to prejudge terrorists…errr….Muslims – let ’em fly a plane into some buildings first. Bend over and pick up their soap and they’ll have your back. It’s not PC to think ill of people who don’t worship as we do – OK, we don’t worship but you get the idea. It’s only about 1% of the world’s Muslim population that’s doing Jihad on Christians, Jews and non-Muslims, we can deal with 16 million or so terrorists.

I called Sen. Mark Kirk’s office on Thursday to thank him/the staff for making certain the vets that flew out of Midway Airport got to see the WWII memorial on Wednesday without breaking through barricades to do so. Apparently, our vets received royal treatment and were talking about making up T-shirts touting “I survived WWII AND the 2013 shutdown of the WWII Memorial”. We’ll see.

While I had the staff member on the phone, I reported to him the ACA costs I had amassed on the part of nine people living in four states (IL-4, WI-2, AL-2 and IN-1). These are real people (friends and family) who allowed me to use their data to get a feel for the cost of Obamacare insurance policies.

The results ranged from an increase of 13% to over triple for the SAME coverage they presently hold: number of visits allowed per year, deductible per person, whether or not prescription drugs were included and if a deductible-per-person was included in that category, co-pays and caps. What was hard to assess was the cost when the person’s healthcare professional was not included in the network and (s)he had to find another doctor (more travel costs, transfer of records, etc.).

I’ve had some help working these figures because it does get complicated, but not one estimate appears to cost the same or less than these people were already paying except for one 21-year-old college student whose parents are deceased, but he might be considered an outlier given he has coverage at the student health center and wasn’t certain about the policy limits.

Kirk’s staff member said that he was getting hundreds of calls from angry Illinois residents saying exactly the same thing.

Meanwhile, later last night, family from Colorado and Texas called to report the same findings, both for single people between 32 and 40 whose insurance carriers have contacted them saying they are no longer covering their areas as of January 2014. All had increased costs if you compare apples with apples.

If any of you have had a different experience, let us know. Otherwise, this is a disaster waiting to happen. One Dem in my list of CongressCritters said, “Oh, but as more people enroll, the costs will go down.” Sure. Can you name one government program where that has happened?

Did y’all hear about the ‘Bama football players and other students heckling “The Laramie Project”. Apparently a few folks hollered out the “f word”. Now his momma’s mad. A couple points – one article said these students were required to go see this play. Some kind of mandatory freshman theater class. Why do they have to see this kind of revisionist history play instead of a classic like Romeo & Juliet. Second, in the attached article Shepard’s momma is caterwauling about the injustice of it all, while the article mentions the Matthew Shepard Foundation – someone’s gettin’ paid.

As we now know, this whole (while horrible) murder meme was made up. Seems he may have been killed by his lover (companion) and another thug. Sounds to me like an offshoot of the BGI. Or maybe I’m just a cynic.

Speaking of TGIF, here is an article about a woman who claims the restaurant TGI Friday’s intentionally put bacon into her iced tea because they knew she couldn’t eat it because of her religious beliefs.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/10/04/tgi-fridays-casual-dining-muslim/2921433/

My questions? How would the servers know her religious beliefs? There are plenty of reasons not to eat bacon aside from religious requirements. And second, given that it was a second server that gave her the supposedly bacon-laced tea, doesn’t that suggest a conspiracy of multiple employees all getting together and risking their jobs just to put bacon in someone’s tea – something she would definitely notice?

Is this just a shake down?

Sound-bites already being made on cable news networks regarding paying furloughed Fed workers for time they were out – same as the last 16 shutdowns. They’ll slowly leak the info that they’ll also be paying overtime for catchup work – either during the hysterical reporting about the coming tropical storm or late on a Friday so that it makes minimal impact on the public’s sensibilities. Note the press’s sound-bites on the severe impact on the average American by the closure, a cheap psychological attempt to get the average reality show watcher to vicariously identify with the unfolding mini-drama without ever having to leave the safety of his/her armchair. I know that I’ve been going through withdrawal as I can’t use the USDA foul-fowl hotline or call my State USDA FSA office to find out which new farm programs that could effect me the office will be totally ignorant of,.

“Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred announced Friday that she will be representing the family of a biker hospitalized during the motorcycle madness in upper Manhattan that ended with a an SUV driver pummeled in front of his family. According to a press release, Allred is expected to explain how Mieses, 32, was an innocent victim in the wild ordeal.”

“The first piece of business will be to get the incriminating video thrown out. Removing the Allred stench will be a tougher task.”

There’s a puny tropical storm in the Gulf that may sideswipe the New Orleans area with some rain but all of the local talking heads and politicians who can possibly squeeze a drop of self-serving publicity out of it are wringing it dry. News reported that the mayor may declare a state of emergency later today – we’ve had worse with less, and the local homeland security (small ‘H’, they’re city, not Feds) folks are constantly telling us they’re on the barricades watching out for our safety – do not worry common incompetent mouth-breather, we’ll advise and keep you from standing in the open during the storm, face up and mouth open.
Latest Federal plot shows it will approach lower southern Louisiana and then suddenly veer eastish, away from Louisiana. The forecasters credit an approaching front, I credit the huge load of hot air we’ve had from pols and pundits rolling southward and forming a solid BS front.

man with leukemia dropped from health insurance because of new regulations

    http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_northeast_valley/fountain_hills/fountain-hills-man-dropped-from-health-insurance-because-of-new-regulations

    (Video at link)

Back in 2006, he found out he had an incurable form of leukemia that requires ongoing treatment until he dies.

In 2012, his treatment bill was more than $350,000. But because of his insurance, his out-of-pocket was only $4,500.

That’s about to change because Michael just got a letter from his insurance carrier saying as of January 1, he would be dropped from coverage because of new regulations under Obamacare. His doctor at the Mayo Clinic may be gone as well.

“Now it doesn’t mean I can’t go see my current doctor, but my $4,500 out-of-pocket, is going to turn into a minimum of $26,000 out-of-pocket to see the doctor that I’ve been seeing the last seven years,” he said.
