Tuesday Open Thread – March 27th

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

So. . . what this I hear about the State of MI ordering the deaths of privately owned livestock, based on hair color?
    http://www.naturalnews.com/035372_Michigan_pigs_farm_freedom.html
    http://www.farmtoconsumer.org/michigan-dnr-going-hog-wild.htm

Apparently, they’ve decided that some pigs, raised for decades in the state, are now an “invasive species”, and anyone owning such pigs will have their live stock slaughtered by the gov’t, and the owners will be arrested and go to jail.

Anyone here got the other side of the story? Like, is there somewhere, a good reason for this? Or is this a way to 1)Appease local “immigrant” populations while 2) flushing out all those willing to fight for their liberties?

This unnerves me, because I only grow open pollinated and heirloom fruits and veggies– and if this stood as some sort of precedent, Monsanto or other such companies could follow the same route. . . Likewise, professional apiaries could move to have privately owned hives destroyed. . .

Here’s a little info about Bacon to get your day going on the right note.

    The Rules of Bacon:

    1. There MUST always be bacon in the fridge. Always.
    2. There does not exist a food that does not go well with Bacon.
    3. There are two kinds of people in the world; those who like Bacon, and those who will be used as fodder in the case of a zombie apocalypse.
    4. Even pigs like Bacon. Fact.
    5. Crispy and chewy are both acceptable ways to cook Bacon. Thou shalt not discriminate.
    6. 60% of the world’s promblems can be solved by cooking more bacon.
    7. Bacon presents exactly zero health risks. Shut Up.
    8. If your computer is an antiquated and slow, you can feed it bacon through the floppy drive to make it run faster.
    9. Meals without Bacon are reaely worth eating.
    10. When given a breathalyzer, the number they give you is your BAC. This is short for “Bacon” and is equal to the number of slices of Bacon you should eat divided by 100.
    11. Thou shalt always consume Bacon on the Sabbath, and the Mondath and the Tuesdath and The . . .
    12. Bacon gets you laid.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, regressive, Marxists, and Obama supporters, et. al.:

We have stuck together since the late 1950s for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

    1. Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy. Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides had such distinct and disparate tastes.

    2. We don’t like redistributive taxes, so you can keep them.

    3. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

    4. Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military.

    5. We’ll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar, and bio-diesel.

    6. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O’Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.

    7. We’ll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street.

    8. You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless homeboys, hippies, druggies, and illegal aliens.

    9. We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and rednecks.

    10. We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

    11. You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

    12. You can have the peace-niks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security.

    13. We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values.

    14. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness, and Shirley McLain. You can also have the U.N., but we will no longer be paying the bill.

    15. We’ll keep the SUV’s, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

    16. You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors..

    17. We’ll continue to believe healthcare is an earned luxury and not a right.

    18. We’ll keep “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “The National Anthem.”

    19. I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute “Imagine”, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”, “Kum Ba Ya,” or “We Are the World”.

    20. We’ll practice trickledown economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

    21. Since it often so offends you, we’ll keep our history, our name and our constitution and our flag.

    22. Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

And the high rate of those ineligible for military service because of a criminal record and/or poor education does NOT apply to white applicants. Like the PISA global standardized testing, the US standards fell across the board. Tease out the test-takers by race, and their test scores paralleled those of the same race in all the countries testing took place. Whites in the US kept pace with other white students in other nations.

I like to remind people who clamor for more “resources” for “education” about the KC school board case, where a federal judge unilaterally doubled the property taxes on all the predominately white homeowners to subsidize every single educational fantasy of minority activists, who continue to claim that the “Achievement Gap” is based on being denied resources, the best facilities, best qualified teachers, etc that “white” students have. So, they were given every.single.thing they claimed was preventing “success” for blacks, and guess what? Millions of dollars wasted, white students disadvantaged, and STILL no improvement in the “Achievement Gap”. Huh. Almost makes you think maybe some other factor is at work…..

    • It’s amazing to me that people believe that health insurance is a “free market”. First of all, the government is completely in charge of Tricare, VA, Medicare, Medicaid, health care on Indian reservations, and health care for government workers. That’s like most of health insurance right there. Then, state governments have all kinds of mandates, laws, and regulations that tell health insurance companies what they can and cannot do. The federal government does, too, although not as many (pre-ObummerCare). Now with ObummerCare there’s hardly anything free market about it. I’m also interested in Tex’s take on it.

Excellent article. Analysis is spot on regarding most things such as mandates, taxes, and so forth. I don’t have it at hand, but Mark Levin tore up the whole myth about the “uninsured” in Liberty and Tyranny. It appears this article used that info, but Levin goes into much more detail.

There are a couple thing not mentioned in the article. Since all this went down, two of the CEO’s of for-profit insurers (Aetna and CIGNA) went bye-bye. Essentially they fell on their swords when they found out they got hoodwinked by Teh Won. It wasn’t publicized as such, but that’s the Paul Harvey on their exits.

The second thing, which is much more important, IMHO, is the manner in which the public insurance companies follow the lead of the gov’t. run programs like Medicare. By this, what I mean is that for approval of many new(er) procedures, frequency of tests – re: PSA, mammograms and so forth. The biggie is medication though. If Medicare approves a med for distribution, typically the insurance companies follow suit. The opposite is also true. One exception – Medicare does NOT cover Viagra, Cialis as many believe. They don’t. Most private insurers do cover them. For those who have coverage through their employer, it is a decision typically made by the employer, not the insurance company.

He also doesn’t really get into the different types of “insurance”. For those who work for an employer over 200-300 employees, their plans are “self-funded”. This is essentially a cost-plus financing of insurance claims. Until very recently, this type of program has been able to evade most of those mandates laid out by the states, except for maternity coverage. If you work for a small company or buy individual policies, you are at the mercy of the state you live in.

Thanks for the post. I had never seen it before. 😀
