Huntsman Calls It Quits…RINOs Weep

You know who this helps…

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.

(NYTimes)…CHARLESTON, S.C. — Jon M. Huntsman Jr. informed his advisers on Sunday that he intends to drop out of the Republican presidential race, ending his candidacy a week before he had hoped to revive his campaign in the South Carolina primary.
Mr. Huntsman, who had struggled to live up to the soaring expectations of his candidacy, made plans to make an announcement as early as Monday. He had been set to participate in an evening debate in Myrtle Beach.
A third-place finish in the New Hampshire primary last week failed to jump start his flagging candidacy, aides said, and his campaign limped into South Carolina with little money. Mr. Huntsman has spent days pondering his future in the race, but aides said that he concluded he was unlikely to topple Mitt Romney or match the momentum of his Republican rivals in the conservative Southern primary.  Mr. Huntsman will endorse Mr. Romney’s bid for the Republican nomination this week, according to several people who spoke on condition of anonymity.

  1. Of course he’s quitting and throwing his support to Romney RIGHT NOW. Mittens is facing the possibility of losing the SC primary and worried the ensuing media crush will turn his momentum.

When the Decepticon 2nd string QB is worried about the fans turning on the Starting QB, the best thing he can do to support his chum is to quit before the crowd chant gets loud enough to hear.

I was just coming here to report this but what was I thinking…of course you all would be on top of it. I figured he just got uppity at the first rest stop he came to in South Carolina when to his horror he was served grits!

Ilike and respect Jon Sr. Jr. not so much.

Well, glad he’s finally gone. The one drop-out that will help Romney. As the rest whittle down, all who aren’t Romney (except for Paul) will end up banding together. At least the bottom is finally gone– now others can consider withdrawing, and not have the shame of “quitting before Huntsman Jr”

  5. His supporter is devastated…. 😦

“After beating Jon Huntsman Jr. in a poll earlier this week, funny man Stephen Colbert is seriously considering campaigning as a candidate for South Carolina’s Jan. 21 Republican presidential primary.”

“Jon Huntsman finished third … and he said he’s happy with the momentum he gained this week. You know it’s got to be fun being a politician. You can spin everything. … Your plane is crashing and you’re saying, ‘We’re happy to be landing ahead of schedule.'” –Jay Leno

  9. Wraith says:

Um, Jon (1% in any and all polls) Who? Is anyone supposed to care? 😕

  10. The brilliant pontificating mind, who supported Obama, and who thought speaking Mandarin Chinese during a conservative primary, while simultaneously discussing outsourcing and lost American jobs, was a good thing is gone.

    Go figure.

One can only hope that his advisors enlist with the Romney team. Quickly.

  11. On one of these threads someone mentioned how well Rick Perry did in the Huckabee Forum. I watched it earlier tonight and I gotta agree. Perry did the absolute best in his communicative skills, explanations, plain common sense talk and straight forward answers. Perry does a much better job just talking to people and answering questions than he does with the whole debate structure.

    Did anyone else watch.?
