Police previously confirmed the driver was in no way responsible for the incident….. He remains in critical condition in a coma…

Detroit 3DETROIT, MI – Detroit police have arrested two suspects in the ongoing investigation of the beating of a man who stopped his truck after accidentally hitting a 10-year-old boy on the city’s east side Wednesday afternoon.
[…] Police Sgt. Michael Woody confirmed Saturday that a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old have been arrested in connection with the incident. He offered few details on the suspects or how police were led to their arrest, and said police are still in the early stages of the investigation.
“Remember there are still eight or 10 people we’re looking for,” Woody said. “We’re not celebrating by any means.” (continue reading)

DETROIT – As a 54-year-old Roseville man clings to life in the hospital following a brutal mob beating on Detroit’s east side, many are starting to wonder if the whole thing was racially motivated.
As first reported by WWJ Newsradio 950, an 11-year-old boy suffered a broken leg on Wednesday when he was hit by a pickup truck after walking into the street near Morang and Balfour. The driver, Steven Utash, immediately got out of his truck after hitting the boy and was viciously attacked by 10 to 12 men. The beating was so brutal, Utash was rendered unconscious.

Utash’s son Joseph told WWJ’s Gary Lundy Thursday night that his father remains in a medically induced coma, nearly unrecognizable due to his injuries. He also said his wallet was stolen from his truck.
“If it went on any longer, my dad wouldn’t be in the hospital right now, he would be in the morgue. The way he looked, I am surprised that he is alive,” he said. “He has bruising over his face, his eyes are swollen, I believe it’s his left eye that is completely swollen shut. He also has a big, huge knot on his forehead like he got hit with an object, not a fist.” (read more)

“His wallet was taken. Everything he owned was in that bag that they took out of his truck. He doesn’t have health insurance. It’s terrible. I don’t want my dad to have to come out of the hospital after something this tragic and have a giant bill hanging over his head for the rest of his life because he tried to stop and help a kid that he accidentally hurt.” (link)

There is a fund set up to assist the Utash family with medical expenses

And with further analysis the actual events appear to have been an orchestrated “mob n’ rob” incident using the 11-year-old as bait to stop the vehicle:

HatTip Froggie Legs – According to this report, the father of the boy is suspected as being involved with the beating…
https://www.myfoxdetroit.com/story/25158162/young-boy-hit-by-car-out-of-hospital-beaten-driver-remains-in-coma

“Reports stated the father of the boy hit by the car was involved in the beating. Police say the father is in custody but for unrelated charges.”

Also in the video accompanying that article, the uncle says he was also there as was the boys mother. So much for the family not knowing who did it.
Now, if you watch this video from USA today closely, you will see that the boy actually puts one foot behind him and rocks back and forth (as if he is standing on third base ready to steal home) and runs into the vehicle. The truck was already in front of both cars when the kid bolted out and ran into it.

Here’s a screen shot showing where the truck was just as the kid started to jump out in front of it

The kid actually ended up running into the side of the truck. It was not the truck running into the 11-year-old. This appears to have been a “set up” using the boy as bait to stop the vehicle. Obviously the child’s mother, father and other family members were also involved as they were all present for the attack and robbery which followed.
