About a week or so ago, Dear WeeWeed noticed a few reports of animals acting strangely in Yellow Stone National Park. Those reports included sightings of massive herds of the Parks’ Bison coming down quickly from the Grand Teton Mountain range and surrounding foothills.

WYOMING / MONTANA The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurred near West Yellowstone on Sunday morning.

The quake was centered about 23 miles east-northeast of West Yellowstone at about 6:30 a.m.; that is about 65 miles south-southeast of Bozeman.
The quake was reported at a depth of 4.2 miles.
The USGS website reports that people felt the quake in Gardiner, Montana; Jackson, Wyoming; and Rexburg, Idaho.
Several smaller quakes, ranging from 2.5 to 3.1, were also reported in the region on Sunday morning.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage.
Montana is one of the most seismically-active states; the vast majority of earthquakes are minor, primarily of interest only to geologists and researchers.

But occasionally, Montana earthquakes can be larger – and deadly. In 1935 there were a series of earthquakes between Yellowstone and Helena that killed four people and caused more than $4 million dollars worth of damage.
The 1959 “Hebgen Lake” earthquake in Montana killed 28 people, and caused more than $11 million dollars worth of damage.   (READ MORE)

For those of you unfamiliar with the topography – the mountain range you can see in the background of the video, with the running Bison away last week, is the exact location of the earthquake today.
