Hazmat crews are on the scene of a CSX cargo train derailment near Baltimore, Maryland, just outside of the nation’s capital. Witnesses reported an explosion and several buildings in the immediate area collapsed.
BALTIMORE — One person was injured in a train derailment and explosion in Baltimore County that sparked a fire, sent shock waves throughout the region and caused precautionary evacuations.
Baltimore County fire officials said a CSX train derailed in the area of the 7500 block of Lake Drive near 66th Street in Rosedale at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday after it collided with a truck.
According to Baltimore County Public Safety officials Twitter account, preliminary reports indicate several buildings collapsed at site of train derailment.
Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz told 11 News the cause of the derailment appeared to be a collision, “Apparently the CSX train had contact with a commercial vehicle.” (read more)
