Progressive Consequence: Michigan Governor Forced To Use State Power To Takeover Detroit Fiscal Mess….

Detroit City Council(Reuters) - Michigan Governor Rick Snyder on Friday formally declared Detroit in a fiscal emergency and said he had identified a top candidate to take over financial management of the destitute city.

The declaration virtually assures that the state of Michigan will assume control of Detroit’s books, though Snyder was careful to say there is still a window of 10 days for city leaders to convince him otherwise.

“I believe it’s appropriate to declare the city of Detroit in financial emergency,” Snyder told a forum of community leaders at a Detroit public television station.

Detroit has faced the steepest population decline of any major American city in recent decades. Once the fifth largest U.S. city, which shone as the birthplace of the U.S. automotive industry and Motown music, it now ranks 18th in size with about 700,000 people – after suffering a 25 percent decline in population between 2000 and 2010.

Snyder would not identify the top candidate to run Detroit or say whether the person was from Michigan or outside the state. Some residents have said he should name an African-American to manage a city that is 83 percent black.

Referring to the candidate, the Republican governor said,

“They have vast experience working on relationships, they have strong financial knowledge, strong legal knowledge and that ability to say how do we build teams and work together,” the Republican governor said of the candidate.

The emergency manager will eventually have vast powers to develop a financial plan, revise or reject budgets, consolidate departments, reduce or eliminate the salaries of elected officials, sell eligible city assets, lay off workers and renegotiate labor contracts. (continue reading)

This country is unraveling faster than a freak on bath-salts.

    Well said akathesob!!! ;)

  3. ytz4mee says:

Are they going to riot? They promised to riot if the state takes over.
This is just a way to redistribute wealth from white taxpayers throughout the whole state, to accomodate the financial incompetence of the BGI that is in charge of Detroit. They sure were crowing about it when they got the reins of power, and now it hasn’t worked out, it’s someone else’s fault.

Mayor Bing made a wishy washy statement. There will be 10 days in which comments will be taken. From what I gathered, most sane people in government know this has to happen, but don’t want to go on the record, lol!

    • stellap says:

Bing said something about riots on a local radio talk show last week. He mentioned the 1967 riot, and how it wouldn’t help anybody if that happens again. The NBP Party spokesman said something about riots if an emergency financial manager is appointed, as I recall.

        What’s left to burn?

        But

        Burn baby burn

        • stellap says:

Actually, Detroit has some really lovely neighborhoods, and the downtown area is in a period of renaissance – local businessmen have been buying up and refurbishing old buildings, and businesses have begun to move back to the city. A lot of people have put forth a real effort in their time and treasure, and it would be a terrible setback for evil people to spoil what they have accomplished. It is too bad that the ugly parts of Detroit (there are many) and the stupid people of Detroit (many of them too) get all of the national attention. It doesn’t mean that this very old and historic city isn’t worth saving.

  4. “Some residents have said he should name an African-American to manage a city that is 83 percent black.” OMG are they kidding? I don’t have a problem with them finding someone qualified to take over, and if he is black, then, fine. But, look at the nine people who I assume are in charge now. It seems that they didn’t do such a bang-up job just because they are black. That is soooooo racist!

  5. bob e says:

well..if they appoint a black person to oversee this..then they will have, gone down a slippery
slope, & have ta’ appoint another black person to oversee the appointee. then they would
    have to appoint another…

  6. boricuafudd says:

They want a black manager appointed, not the most qualified but black. Yet, this not considered racist, at all. SMH.

  7. taqiyyologist says:

Thanks, Commies, for giving us Parliament.

A great lotta goodness came from electing leaders based on skin color INSTEAD of content of character.

Listen closely to Parliament, 1975, “Chocolate City” (Ray Nagin referenced this a few years ago, remember?). What a boon of good fortune THAT idea turned out to be.

    “Uh, What’s happenin’ CC?”

    Prophetic.

    • taqiyyologist says:

“Gainin’ on ya! (Can’t you feel my breath?) Gainin’ on ya! (All up around your neck!)”

“Uh, we didn’t get our forty acres and a mule, but we did get you, C.C.! Aww. Gainin’ on ya. Movin’ in around ya.”

And they wonder why we left? SRSLY?

    • taqiyyologist says:

And the vast majority of those who subscribed to the “Chocolate City” method of “takeover” think that what they are doing is “tribal” — doing for “your people” as a racial group — and they are all wrong.

It’s Communist and they have been used — programmed to kill, and to steal, and to destroy. And Parliament was just a product of something planned since the New School opened it’s doors decades earlier.

The photo’s say it all. This is a Social Justice Utopia from hell. The whole USA is headed off the cliff right behind Detroit. Let’s face it. The Great Society is an utter and complete fail.

  9. hardfacts says:

I’ve actually met Councilman Spivey briefly. He seemed like an ernest, well-spoken young man.

    • stellap says:

The problem is, as I see it, that the good guys on the council finally get fed up and quit, and the old guard stay on.

  10. maggiemoowho says:

From the mouth of Joanne Watson:

“Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson. “Of course, not just that, but why not?”

“After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C. He came home with some bacon,” said Watson. “That’s what you do.”

**I hope the state checks those books, Jessie Jackson Jr might get some company in prison.**

    • Oh, yeah, HER! I remember her. I thought she looked familiar. I recognized the mouth.

    • taqiyyologist says:

Did any white person of stature ever say, regarding Mitt Romney or John MCain before him, “Our people in an overwhelming way supported the [election] of this [candidate] and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson. “Of course, not just that, but why not?”

      Imagine the World-Wide Outcry.

Our People. Good grief and goodness gracious.
