On March 15, 2012, just a few days before the story of Trayvon Martin’s killing in Florida became a national sensation, Jose Carranza, 32, found his way back into the news.
Like George Zimmerman, Martin’s killer, Carranza is of Peruvian descent. Like Zimmerman, Carranza killed a black youth. Only he did not stop at one. He killed three. And on March 15, he was sentenced to 155 years in prison for his crime.

George Zimmerman, the man who shot Trayvon, will be on trial this summer. A trial is what the protesters and activists were demanding instead of another black death swept under the rug as if our lives were worth less.
But a trial in this particular case is not entirely justice because there are deeper societal problems at play that mean another black kid could become the next Trayvon on any day. [...]
Since the killing, there has been a concerted effort by Zimmerman’s supporters to define him as Hispanic — as if this would change the case by removing the potential of racial profiling.
This is a clever way of combining the “people of color can’t be racist” meme (an idea most whites usually reject) and the “one-drop rule” — a hold-over from slavery that says that having one drop of black blood meant you were a slave so that new slaves could be created even if they had a white parent. This rule has not historically been applied to other races and extending it to Zimmerman because his mother is Peruvian and his father German-American seems a strange stretch. And besides, race is a social construct, not a biological reality, so to evaluate whether he was racially profiling, we’d have to know what race Zimmerman considers himself.
But even that question is moot once you realize that biases against people of color quite often reside inside people of color. Even if Zimmerman sees himself as Hispanic that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t view a strange black body in the distance through a racist lens. (read more)

Speaking of which, this past Christmas I was searching for a poster for my son’s room of Taylor Swift, I came across some rapper posing with the President and the rapper was holding a 9MM.
Vigilante is the one word that just sends me over the moon. Local media outlets used the term “vigilante shooting” very early on. Ticks me off royally.
Like we all sit around and think of who we’d like to shoot today and get extra points if we kill a dark skinned person.
I can ease his fears the majority of the 300 million of us will only kill if we are forced to kill.
As for assuming criminality in young black men, is it assuming if every night on the nightly news there is another young black man who has either murdered someone, robbed someone or broke into someone’s home and I acknowledge he’s black? Maybe I should just pretend I’m not seeing what I’m seeing?

How quaint your feelings of equality are (datign back to the time of the civil rights movement).
We dont need a solution cuz we have determind that white people are the problem.
A solution might mean we would have to examine our own behaviors and not just throw lots of derision, scorn and contempt in the general direction of white people and expect blacks to do zero self examination.

I think “Your” facts and “my” facts align very well with some minor disagreement.
On the other hand, “your” facts combined with “mine” are more in alignment than those of toure, I would imagine.
On a side note, I would wager that your facts and my facts are closer to actual reality than toure’s set of facts.

There are several features that can be used to determine the race of an individual. In terms of the skull, a great place to start is the maxillary bone.
