On August 6, 2011, a U.S. CH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan, killing everyone on board. It was the worst single-incident loss of American life since the start of the war there, with 30 American service members killed, 22 of them Navy SEALs.
Three days later the bereaved families were gathered together at Dover Air Force Base for the solemn Dignified Transfer of remains, “to honor those who have given their lives in service of our country” upon their final return home. Regarding media coverage, the families together, as per SECDEF policy, reached a decision and notified the Pentagon they did not consent to having media present, and that no images be released or made public. The Pentagon delivered their decision to the president himself…who then ignored it.
In fact, President Obama had photographer Peter Souza accompany him and had reelection campaign pictures taken of himself saluting caskets…that he would exclude.
As documented, President Obama has used the offending image at least twice, brazenly making it a White House Photo of the Day, despite the controversy and public outcry then. And last December, he used the same “Saluting Obama” image — taken for caskets containing the remains of those who died in Afghanistan — and inserted into a campaign video he calls “Ending the War in Iraq: A Promise Kept”. It appears at the 2:08 mark.
When asked about public distribution of the image, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the picture was carefully taken so that it did not show the cases containing remains. In other words, President Obama — wanting that picture of himself for both his legacy and political campaign — doubled down on his abject disregard for the military and wishes of the bereaved families by making the image public and using their CASKETS AS PROPS.

As an American, I cannot fathom a Commander-in-Chief acting or even thinking like that. I find what President Obama did to be morally repugnant and absolutely disgraceful.

I am very sorry for these families, I can’t begin to imagine losing a child. However, they still don’t get to take away our rights because they suffered a horrible loss. They also don’t get to have their own facts.

“I have asked the vice president (Joe Biden) to make possession of assault weapons and their ammunition a felony, with no grandfather clause, and for the government to have a buyout plan for those who own the guns,” said Rousseau, a copy editor at The News-Times.
Peter Paradis’ stepdaughter, 29-year-old Rachel Davino, was one of the six educators killed.
“If we had responsible gun ownership this wouldn’t have happened,” Paradis said at the task force hearing in Newtown. He said better education for gun owners, as well as stationing armed guards in schools, would make people safer.
“We don’t need 30-round clips to kill a deer,” he said, “and we don’t need AR-style weapons to go target shooting.” (David Wheeler’s son might be alive today if he had protection like the school is asking for now. For all the “assault weapon” comments, you don’t get your own facts, an assault weapon was not used. For the umpteenth time, .223 ammunition is not a much larger caliber than a .22. Also for the umpteenth time, the right to bear arms has zero to do with hunting or target shooting.)

The family’s grief has got to be made 100 X worse than “usual” because the truth is–this was a really stupid way to die. REALLY stupid.
Our DIL was stationed in Incerlik while serving with the AF on an AWACS crews–that’s at least 18 years ago. The female AF members were absolutely forbidden to step foot off the base unless accompanied by male AF members…for their own safety….whether in civilian clothing or in uniform. They ALWAYS moved in groups, whether in shopping areas, tourist areas, or whatever.
This woman was asserting, with no basis for it, that she would be the exception to the norm, that she could “get by with it” and that she could flout the normal rules of safety. I am so sorry for her family.

Photo has always bugged me, not just for the disrespect (families requested no media, so no photo op yet Obama went & had photo taken & published) but look at it.
All in silhouette, dramatic shadow lighting, but the others look like they have their hands over their heart (like the Pledge of Allegiance) yet Obama is the only one saluting? It looks like Panetta is standing next to him, he served in the military, so why wouldn’t he be saluting the Seals as well?
Seriously hope the WH photographer watches himself after the reign as he obviously has been privy to many secrets.
Does anyone have an insight into the ammo shortage. It next to impossible to find 9MM or 22LR in my town. Its been like this for months. I would have thought by not the manufacturers would have ramped up production and the shortages would have eased. Something smells fishy.
I keep asking why 22? I went back to BassPro this afternoon since they did have some, they no longer do. When I asked them they said they’re only getting in bricks now and very limited supplies and they never know if they will get any on the truck. He gave us a schedule of when the truck runs and says you need to be there about 9 in the morning for your best shot and then there is a limit one brick per customer.
I don’t necassirly need it, it’s just all my life I’ve kept stocked up on .22 and bought a box or two every now and then and now that I can’t find it, it bothers me.
I did talk to one gun shop and he told me his supplier won’t even tell him when they will have it. Wal-mart told me their warehouse was out and the company said it would be at least 6 months before they would get a shipment.
So where is it all going? Somethings wrong tell you.
