I grew up on a farm and I’ve seen horses, cows, and yes pigs, eat with more grace than that.

If I had behaved like that when I was 12, my mother would have removed me from the room immediately (I would have been escorted thence with her hand applying a very painful squeeze to my disrespectful upperarm–between the elbow and the shoulder of the affected side). We would have gone 5 steps beyond the nearest exist. She would then have said, “Now you march back in there, sit down, eat with your mouth shut, speak politely when you are spoken to–and beHAVE YOURSELF.”
And I would have.
And it would never have been mentioned again (because there would be no further need).

I have to admit…I’m a bit shocked that even She Who Is To Be Feared would actually behave that badly in public. I would not have thought to accuse her of this level. Need some serious eye-rolls here….got some?

Really? I have to imagine that no one in their circle would have the b@lls to ‘suggest’ she fine tune her manners. Can you even just try to picture that conversation? I remember 4 yrs ago, the media did this expose of the first-family-to-be on the road during the campaign and the media blathered all over themselves how natural and comfortable she was while she was on the bus with her doo-rag on.
I remembered that particular report on his original inauguration day, and felt my heart sink with the thought of those two traipsing down the halls of the white house, mocking our country’s history and high fiving each other on how they had effectively conned almost an entire nation while toking up and drinking like fish–in her stupid doo-rag. I had hoped it was just my imagination gone wild, but to see them have such little respect for themselves while the world was watching, makes me think my ‘imagination’ wasn’t that far off…
So sad and heartbreaking to know, in so many ways, our country has come to this.
I at first thought it’s a good thing her mother is raising their kids, but then I thought she was the one who raised her.
I watched my aunt one time show her son how he was eating like a pig. She got up went into the bathroom came back with a mirror and set it in front of him. She told him until you learn how to eat, you will stare in that mirror and watch yourself eat so you can be punished the same way the rest of us are. He was embarrassed and humiliated, especially in front of his cousins, but he quit eating like a pig.
My mother kept a pointing stick at the table, anyone caught with their elbows on the table, without warning got their elbow knocked off the table with the stick. It didn’t hurt you, just shocked you.
My daughter tried the eye roll a few times, she was forced to wear old granny sunglasses for a day, it broke her from rolling her eyes at me.
It sickens me that the First Lady of the United States is a poster for children to know how not to act.

How far we’ve come from a Jackie Kennedy. A woman of impecable taste. No matter what today’s First Lady wears … she always looks sloppy. She looks like a size 8 stuffed into a size 7. Elbows on the table hovered over your plate. My word. She’s a hulking mess.

You also realize that Jackie completely renovated the White House to restore it to it’s original state, and Americans took the televised tour with Jackie.

I shudder to think what the White House would look like if Michelle began a redecorating campaign. I think after Michelle would finish the only way one could feel comfortable walking around inside is if you were wearing the latest hip hop gear or a Zoot Suit.
Whether you voted for Jack Kennedy or not, back then, the entire nation was in love with the Kennedys. We didn’t have a nation divided like we do now. And Jack didn’t ask what your country could do for YOU (handouts/the dole), but what you could do for your country. And we certainly knew he was born here, and where he went to school, and his service put in for our country. I think he is turning in his grave over what the Democratic Party has become. He hated Communism. He was for spreading democracy. He was no saint, but his principles in general were sound. He wanted out of Vietnam. I think he was good man at heart. And Washington hates good men. They get in the way.
Total agreement with you, ottawa925. As I previously posted, it takes just a bit of class in order to e able to recognize class. Jackie was total class and set a GREAT example to the youth of this country. So many tried to emulate her, and big and little girls would try to copy her actions and dress. Emulation is the highest for of compliment. We are a better nation for having had Jackie as our model. I wish I could say the same for Michelle O….NOT!!
What a surprise to hear Jacquie talk with her bad case of “you know”s which Caroline inherited. Was shocked when she testified in Congress. Still she ate with her mouth closed and elbows off the table. She never interupted while the band was playing “God Save the Queen” like Obama. What a hoof and mouth crowd, Michelle and Barack.

nameofthepen, I was looking for a photo that is burned in my memory of how in love Jackie was with Jack. I could not find a photo, and if someone can, I sure would appreciate it. Jackie and Jack sit at table with candlelight, while he smokes a cigar and you can see she is flirting with her husband … the whole scene looks surreal. You can see what I am talking about in this video starting at approx. :20, and only lasts a short time. But there IS a photo out there that captured that moment, and I’d like to see it. Also, in the video it states this was Jan. 61 Inagural Ball?, yet when I look up photos of that she does not have her hair up, nor is she wearing a strapless gown. Anyway, here is the video:

That image of the Kennedy’s is beautiful, but I’m sure it was completely scripted. Just like the Obamas. Kennedy was an adulterer and Jackie knew it, but she was intent on maintaining the image.
JBK had learned long ago the art of image growing up with & covering up her alcoholic, gambler & playboy father.

you need to read up ctdar. Ari could offer what she needed most … privacy. She was a very private person. There are several very very good websites that divulge what was going behind the tabloid headlines during those days. Many I am sure made her out to be money grubbing, and expected her to live in solace and not remarry as it would seem like she was betraying Jack. However, she was quite capable of making her own money, and she did later in life. Her first consideration, however, was her kids in view of what happened to their father. She later found Ari to be rather crude and brutish compared to her Jack who she was totally in love with. Bottomline for me, is that I could never say anything bad about a woman who endured what she had. It’s a wonder she was able to go on .. after seeing your husband’s head and brains explode. You would think post traumatic disorder would follow her for the rest of her days.

tara, I don’t believe it was. The press back then was not like the press today. Those are pictures and videos we are only privileged to see today. We were not privy back then. That’s why the shooting of Oswald seemed staged, cause it was not ordinary for you to see everything going on. They just didn’t do that back in those days. Not like today fer sure. Today, you blow your nose, and someone has caught it on camera. Not back then. They didn’t have digital cameras that they could just whip out … they had those boxey looking things with the big flash bulbs. Video had no sound accompanied for average ppl to video stuff. Yes, media had video with sound but took a lot of set up. No, from back then with Kennedy’s we are able to see more NOW, than back in those days cause Jackie was a very private person and wouldn’t have allowed it. But she is dead now, and so the veil has been lifted and now we can see.
