Friday Open Thread – November 23rd

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

PA Community College system will slash hours of adjunct (non-tenured) professors to avoid employer costs associated with Obamacare:

Oh, and lookie who has his 2 c to inject into the discussion!

The solution, says United Steelworkers representative Jeff Cech, is that adjunct professors should unionize in an attempt to thwart schools seeking similar cost-savings efforts from avoiding Obamacare.

      from the article:

Pennsylvania’s Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is slashing the hours of 400 adjunct instructors, support staff, and part-time instructors to dodge paying for Obamacare.

“It’s kind of a double whammy for us because we are facing a legal requirement [under the new law] to get health care and if the college is reducing our hours, we don’t have the money to pay for it,” said adjunct biology professor Adam Davis.

Actually, it’s a triple whammy: 1) legal requirement to get health care 2) reduced hours so they can’t pay for it and 3) being fined by the IRS for not having it.

It’s a rerun of the old debtors’ prisons and the Israelites in Egypt building bricks: require that you pay a bill; reduce your pay and you have no money to pay the bill; then you are penalized for not paying the bill; and you will be repeatedly penalized every year going forward until you pay the bill–which you can’t pay because you can’t get a job that pays enough to pay the bill.

Ah, yes. The wonders of obamacare–the bill that had to be passed so that we might learn what’s in it.

But of course, it all ends with the intended consequence: everyone terminally indebted to and under the control of the statists.

There is a sense in which even obamacare is, after all is said and done, a shiney thing–just to keep everybody hopping while the fences are built.

And it will get worse. Just like Obama. For example he has found possibly the only way to make the State Dept. worse than under Hitlery….Rice.

Thirty years before they banned Christmas carols, feasting and dancing in Britain, the Puritans established a stern upright rule in New England. Having fled from persecution themselves, they persecuted others who believed differently. With the exception of Rhode Island, the New England colonies were driven by a sense of self-righteousness that grew from the grievances their leaders felt they had suffered in their homeland.

There have been several well written articles about the current social split in the US that goes deeper than just “Red States” and “Blue States”. These deep differences have been present since the very founding of the Nation.

This is just one of 80 new regulations published TODAY….

    http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=HUD-2012-0001-0050

DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT

    [Docket No. FR-5601-N-46]

Federal Property Suitable as Facilities To Assist the Homeless

AGENCY: Office of the Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development, HUD.

    ACTION: Notice.

    ———————————————————————–

SUMMARY: This Notice identifies unutilized, underutilized, excess, and surplus Federal property reviewed by HUD for suitability for possible use to assist the homeless.

So the homeless will now be housed, “for free” in federal buildings and facilities. Kind of like the tent cities in New Jersey:

The government WILL take care of you…in a number of different ways.

Over time, the limitations of federal government power imposed by the Constitution have been substantially eroded. Preservation of constitutional government requires a restoration of the balance of authority between the federal government and the States as provided in the Constitution, itself, and as intended and construed by those who framed and ratified that document.

This particular performance of Crown Him With Many Crowns came up on my Pandora this morning.

I find it settling to my heart–in the midst of uncertainty, in the wake of too much turkey and dressing, finding ourselves short on answers and long on questions–it’s a good thing to settle, to be still, and know that He is God.

He is, always has been, and always will be the great I AM.

When all the statists, the marxists, the wannabe dictators, the threateners, the czars and the liars have long left the scene, there He will stand, always and forever Lord of All.

Psalm 95:1-7 is the passage we read at our dinner table yesterday before we ate. Verse 7 gives us very firm ground on which to stand.

…He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.

“Now, How Do We Get Rid of Obamacare? Nullify It!

Publius Huldah’s thinking provides specific direction. Very helpful. Just a bit of excerpt:

We are Americans. We are resourceful. When doors are slammed in our faces, we find another way. Since five (5) lawless judges on the U.S. supreme Court betrayed us by failing to declare the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“obamacare”) unconstitutional; since we may be stuck with obama for four more years; 1 and since a democrat-controlled U.S. Senate will not repeal obamacare, we must find another way.

There is another way. Here it is, and it comes from Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence.

        Nullification Resolutions for State Legislatures

…. the States composing the United States of America are not united on the principle of unlimited submission to the federal government;…. they established a federal government for limited purposes only. ….

….That the federal government is not a party to the Constitution, but is merely the creature of the Constitution; and as the mere creature, was not made the exclusive or final judge of the extent of the powers delegated to it; since that would have made the creature’s will, and not the Constitution, the measure of its powers.
