And it doesn’t look like anyone representing the library thought to say, “Uh……you’re kidding….right?”

  2. stellap says:

That’s pretty stupid. Don’t want to be too logical or anything, but don’t the blind have a government program whereby they get free audio players and audio books? I don’t get those, and I pay taxes. I remember that my aunt got free audio books when she became legally blind (macular degeneration).

  3. boricuafudd says:

STOP!, Please stop, this is beyond stupidity, this is selfishness in the 12th degree, and it helps no one, except lawyers with no morals or integrity. Stop it already.

  4. ejarra says:

Whaaaa! I’m blind and I never heard of books on tape! Did I forgot to say I’m ignorant, too.

I don’t get why they couldn’t come up with loaning out the various means to LISTEN to the books. Wouldn’t that have solved it?

    What am I missing here?

  5. Chip Bennett says:

Obviously, Barnes & Noble needs to come out with an e-Braille version of the Nook, to go along with the e-Ink version.

Example. 10 minutes ago. I saw the President of the United States exclaim, “He didn’t say nothin bout you.” If the President can not use proper English….

  6. czarowniczy says:

On the lighter side, the White House has released the recipe for a beer brewed for the POtuS. No kiddin’ folks: http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/09/01/ale-chief-white-house-beer-recipe. No word yet whether it’s served in a 40-oz bottle or has an animal on the label. Jes tryin’ to show he’s a regular bro….uh…guy, yeah, that’s it, a regular guy who drinks custom brewed beer made a by a brewer dedicated to his pleasure and paid by the tax payers. Brews in the hood.

  7. Oh WOW. My local library just put on their sign that they now lend Nooks. I was so tickled when I saw that! It never occurred to me that someone would object to that for ANY reason. Maybe this blind person could ban anything she can’t see? TV, Internet, non-braille books…

Could be an upside though…if the issue is that the program is taxpayer funded, we can all go after PBS, since blind people can’t see that.

  8. brocahontas says:

Next mathmatics will be banned because stupid people can’t understand it.

      • boricuafudd says:

That is happening already, my younger son is in his senior year at HS, but for the last 4-5 years the math classes have allowed scientific calculators, you are credited if your answer is wrong as long as the process is right, on tests you can use your textbook and Ipad and anything that can help you, Its called New Math, and I didn’t do something about my son would not be able to tell me what 7*9 is without a calculator.

      • howie says:

??? Mathematics??? Please. You are confusing the confused. Mathematics does not use the political adjustment.

  9. stellap says:

Here it is – free audio and braille for the blind and physically handicapped:

  10. Mikado Cat says:

I find right wing media spin just as annoying as left wing, this Nook library thing is NOT a big deal. Someone ignorant of the ADA requirements agreed to a deal with Barnes and Noble to use the Nook which unlike other ereaders does not support text to speech or connection to braille display devices. Why this library administrator choose not to follow the American Library Association guidelines for Ereaders is the only story that might be interesting.

This is not some point to rally around against the DOJ, unless you have no concern about success in the fall elections and how much damage groups of handicapped people protesting at Conservative events might do.
