Thursday Open Thread – May 17th

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

  3. ZurichMike says:

What’s news here? Apparently there was some Obama ad that “slammed” Romney and the leftist media (is that redundant?) is gleefully chirping that Obama is not afraid to hit back hard and expose Romney. Not a word about exposing Obama’s abject failures as a man and President. Not. One. Word. And nothing about how Obama promised to bring a new tone to politics. No on remembered how shabbily he treated Hillary Clinton in the primaries.

It is so depressing — and it’s still 170 days or so to Election Day.

But I have a feeling that Team Romney, based on how he went after other GOP candidates, will be saving his most devestating ads against Obama until after Labor Day, when the average citizen finally tunes in to politics in an election year.

    • BlueStateRepub says:

I’m not too hopeful that Romney has the guts to do what needs to be done. Hot Air just reported that Mitt has ordered his campaign to back off of using Rev. Wright against Obama. DID THESE PEOPLE LEARN NOTHING FROM 2008???

Meanwhile the LSM is attacking Mitt for not being more like McCain. By “not being more like McCain” they really mean “not rolling over and letting Bammy win.”

Lessee, Mitt says he won’t use Rev. Wright against Teh Won, and the Super-PAC is now pulling the ad…but Mitt is still some sort of raaaaacist monster who needs to be “more like McCain.”

Oof…I have a headache trying to keep up with the completely corrupt, thoroughly discredited legacy media.

    • Sharon says:

Why is a piece from Fox News headlined “what the media didn’t tell us?” Don’t they know they are part of the media?

    • Auntie Lib says:

Good article! It’s way past time that the dialogue on race gets serious. And the truth – that blacks are far more racist than whites – is finally on the table for honest debate. Any decision made on the basis of a person’s skin color or ethnicity is racist – period.

Mornin’ Treepers! Everyone have a great day!

    • ytz4mee says:

Absolutely, people are engaging in the conversation that Holder DOESN”T want us to have. The only conversation that is acceptable to race-baiters like Holder et al is for whites to continue to admit an unlimited list of culpability for all the failings and dysfunction within the black community.

And, yes, there is a pattern of resentment within the black youth being fueled by people who know exactly what they are doing, and are willing to use aggrieved teens to fulfill a greater agenda for power, control and money. Over-the-top racist weblogs like Black Foot Soldiers Network are NOT the exception – a few clicks will take you to websites that are even more explicit in their demands for violent retribution against whites – and are not reported on, nor condemned, in the mainstream media.

      • Sharon says:

Heaven help “the black community” when the black kids/and fatherless families/and perennially poverty-stricken neighborhoods figure out that the professional black hustlers are the ones who have destroyed them. I know they had help from the do-gooder gubmint beginning with Roosevelt, but the DGG couldn’t have sustained it without the PBHs.

    • texan59 says:

I for one am changing the words I’ve used in the past. I’m not gonna be ugly, but unless you can prove to me that you’ve come from any particular Country or Continent within the last two generations I’m gonna call you what you are.

    • texan59 says:

Is that a warning of what’s to come?

      • Nope…. It’s just video of our impending future.

That will play out all across America, very soon, and the few who resist, who fight back will get exactly what Zimmerman got. False charges, sensationalized coverage, and endless pandering from the justice brothers and the lap dog media.

Sure there will be a few who resist, but the vast majority won’t, and any who do will be shot on the spot. Think it won’t happen that way? Take a look at every single instance in history as far back as you like…. It always ends the same.

Once odumbo loses… And he will, the riots will begin, then martial law, then the selective arrests’s of the dissident’s comes directly after that. It’s always the very same pattern.

DHS is currently preparing for an armed rebellion, they KNOW it’s coming and that people are really getting fed up with the idiocy in DC. The Unions control the police, the commies control the unions, and all the pieces are set up for checkmate……

        • texan59 says:

I’m going out feet first then. F ‘em.

        • Sharon says:

Michelle, have you ever lived in flyover country? Do you know how good the teenagers are with their long guns? And how many guns each of them has? And how much ammo their parents have been purchasing by the thousands of rounds for several years now? And by the way, they quite accustomed to killing animals. It really sounds like you are saying, “It’s no use.”

If those who fight back “will get what Zimmerman got”– then those who are dishing it out will get what Crump is getting. Don’t you see any hope there? (BTW, I’m taking the word “hope” back. It never was zippy’s to begin with.) I know you’re surrounded in the belly of the beast, but Wisconsin! and North Carolina! and Nebraska! People are no longer accepting of political bullyhood.

Lars Larson talked about this on his program–that potential for “selective arrests” and pointed out, with great common sense, that since WE have freedom in our hearts, even though these thugs don’t, using himself as an example, he said, “If they are going to arrest me, they’re going to have to arrest my entire family, all my neighbors, everyone who knows me, ….it won’t work.”

You don’t have much confidence in the Normal Americans Army, sounds like. I’m having more confidence day by day.

I’ve read articles the last week that reflect the same as what you post. If you have harder info and more detailed info, get it to Allen West’s office; or Darryl Issa’s office; or Sarah Palin.

I’m still asking God for mercy on this nation, and I am NOT assuming we stand no chance.

          • Yes Sharon I have, and currently do live in flyover, I’m in Dallas right now. I’m not saying it’s no use, only that it’s coming and will play out as it always has. Cuba resisted, German resisted, Venezuala resisted…. All had the very same result and those are just recent examples.

What exactly has Crump and his crew gotten?? Nothing but a little exposure, he was O’Reily last night lying through his teeth and Bill didn’t call him on any of it. So short of more people knowing how much of a hack he is, like that wasn’t painfully obvious to begin with, hasn’t done a thing to him. His band of thugs are roaming the country and nothing is happening to them, save a few “arrests” which isn’t what they deserve. Look at the occupy thugs, same thing…. Some “arrests” but not much more.

Having weapons, knowing how to use them, and a pile of ammo won’t do much good if you lack the courage to be the first person to go down fighting. THAT is where we are, it’s sad, it’s depressing, but that is just the reality. People are accepting it all over the place, let’s start with Waco shall we…. THAT was right here in Texas… Did anything happen to any of those “officials” from Clinton all the way down?? NOPE!! I could list a hundred more in the past six months…. Same pattern, same result. Most were barely even noticed or mentioned. Remember the Hutare militia…. How did that work out?

We “had” freedom in our hearts Sharon, now we just have fear. Don’t misunderstand, I am just as guilty of being to afraid to resist also.

I have a tremendous respect for the military, or even a militia, and am pretty sure there are some who will refuse to follow orders, but WHERE are they? They are not here they are spread out all over the world, their votes are ignored in nearly every election, and short of the older vets they wont be here to help when it boils over.

As much as I respect West, and even Issa, they won’t do anything. They haven’t so far and odumbo and his goons have a long list of crimes to answer for. Congress is a complete joke, the entire lot of them. They are more concerned with which cocktail party they are going to than doing what needs to be done. They couldn’t even muster up the courage to cut NPR or ACORN funding…. How about GSA…. Not even the guts to fire the lot of them, it’s the same old pattern. You actually think they are gonna go against the real criminals and start doing more than their little kubuki theater ?? Cut foreign aid, cut federal pay, dissolve the TSA, fire some GSA people, or give up THEIR PERKS….. Let me know when that happens.

I’m also not saying we have no chance, it’s just that a lot of chaos is coming and that chance of turning it around is very small and growing ever smaller each day.

            • Sharon says:

No, of course Congress isn’t going to do anything. They’re a bunch of cowards. And us having guns won’t help. I’m willing to die but I haven’t found anyone intending to kill me yet. I guess they’ll find me. Of course Congress isn’t going to do anything. You “just have fear” in your heart? I don’t just have fear in my heart. I don’t. Some days maybe it is mostly fear, or frequently fear, but it is not “just fear.” I’m sorry if that’s where you are.

I truly don’t see how listing all of the hopeless circumstances and concluding “we just have fear” is helpful. You say in your last paragraph, “I’m also not saying we have no chance…..” but if you read back over the things you have written, it seems to me that that is exactly what you are saying.

I work with a young man who was born and raised in Berlin and just became an American citizen last month (we held a party for him when he was made “official.”) The sad part is, he’s a Lefty who’s always ragging on Angela Merkel and German righties as well as the right wing in this country.

Here’s a guy who was born and raised in a divided city, although he was only a few years old when the wall fell, and he has no idea that his new adopted country is headed the way of the Nazis.

But I have hope for the lad. He’s still young and a lot of us are politically stupid when we’re young (I certainly was.) And he really loves America and was thrilled to become a citizen.

C’mon Marty, mein freund, come over to the Right Side! :)

      • Search your feelings, Marty! Barack is not the one you have been looking for! :D

      • barnslayer says:

Unfortunately, many people are hung up on the idea that “right wing” is analogous to fascism. The truth is both the nazis and communists are “left wing”. Nazi is the German national socialist party of the 30′s-40′s. This explains how supposed opposites would function much the same as each other.

      • Patriot Dreamer says:

Time to show Marty this video:

    • Sharon says:

No, we are not. Our gubmint may want to be like the incompetents and sellouts who forced the Kaiser to abdicate,; brought about the dissolution of the monarchy and destroyed the internal workings of German society and made the country ripe for the Nazis….but we are no longer like the compliant German citizens who kept on “believing the authorities.” Very big difference.

      • I hope you’re right, Sharon. I’m not so sure. You know that Barack has pulled ahead of Romney in the polls, right? We’re not on track to be much different than the compliant Germans. When will people wake up if they haven’t already? This little economic upturn has got everyone giddy with hope and talking about recovery. Like that could ever happen under Fidel Obama.

        • Sharon says:

The polls making the headlines in recent days have not all been for barry. So now the MSM is lying about Romney being up? I guess I just can’t keep track of it all. I thought things were turning against him. The people in Wisconsin made a statement. The people in NC fought back. The people in Nebraska landed a solid punch. But it’s all for nothing. Somebody better tell them I don’t know why anyone is wasting the effort enjoying the successes that have occurred recently.

I’ll be careful not to get encouraged again. Actually, I’m profoundly discouraged at this moment so that should get me started in the right direction. Sorry, my friend–this ticks me off. Off to pack for camp now.

BTW, I have not heard a single person “giddy with hope” about the economy. Just had a city water worker at our door to change out the old meter. He asked on a personal note if I had any vacuuming or dishwashing (in the house!) that anyone could do as a friend of his wife’s is looking for day work to gather some coins.

          • Sorry to be discouraging, and sorry to tick you off, dear Sharon. There have been encouraging developments, true. And I have much faith in the REAL Americans, like the ones you describe and the ones in the Treehouse and the conservative community. But I also have great respect and empathy for the Germans who resisted the rise of the National Socialists in the 30′s. There were many of them who resisted valiantly, but they were betrayed and outnumbered by the foolish. I’m sorry, but you hit a hot button with me when you claimed that we are so much better than them. I’m convinced we are not, UNLESS we succeed in taking the action they did not. Right now, we are on the exact same track as those Germans, and I only say that because I’m in the process of writing an article about it. You also know your history, so perhaps you have a better grasp. In any case, I don’t mean to bring you down. I am not down, only convinced we are on the knife’s edge, and that serious action is needed. As I said, I hope you are right, and we can escape civil war and vote the bastard and his cronies out of office.

About the giddiness, I was referring to the financial markets, which are rallying right now as commodities like precious metals fall. I’m also talking about people I know who keep telling me things are improving. I don’t believe them. Soros is not fooled either; he just increased his gold holdings by orders of magnitude.

            • Sharon says:

I believe we are on a knife edge, too. I understand your point about the fact that many Germans did resist, even to the point of death. We all have our hot buttons these days. ;) Michelle’s post (further up) just sounded completely like “what’s the use” and your post sounded like you believed the polls showing berry up. I doubt I have a better grasp of history than you. I enjoy it and read whatever I can get my hands, but am always trying to get the big picture focused. Anyway, it hits a hot button with me when those I’m fighting next to thinks the war is already lost. (Clarification! …when those next to me say things that I misinterpret to mean that they think the war is already lost!) I over-interpreted the warnings, I suppose, in both your note and Michelle’s.

              • I don’t think you over-anythinged. Michelle is being very gloom&doom and I DO believe the polls. I said months ago that I was convinced that Romney will not beat Barack and I still believe it. That poll spread will swing back and forth, but by October, Barack will be pushing an 8 point lead. Mark my words. We are in grave trouble, IMO. When the fight switches from campaigning to more serious disagreements, I hope you’re right about the aim and ammo stores of those farm boys. Seriously. In the meantime, feel free to disagree with my idiot opinion about which battles may be lost, but be assured that I have faith in the ultimate war being won. I’m just not sure yet how. :)

                • Sharon says:

FWIW, I am quite serious about the farm boys (and their fathers). As long as three years ago (yes, the first year after the immaculation) we often heard personal anecdotes from friends and acquaintances and we saw their gun rooms in their homes. Two stories: Our friend, Sam, is in his 70′s. He owns about 35 long guns. He and his wife recently built a new home in the woods of MN. His gun room (about 8 X 10) became too small because of his need for more ammunitiion storage. So he refinished another basement room, where he now has floor to ceiling ammo supplies. His gun room is “not for display.” It is sheer storage, from top to bottom, from side to side.

Second story: Friends went every year to SD for pheasant hunting. When they came back in the fall of ’09, they were flabbergasted. They said that every small town they hung out in, they heard and/or were in conversations where both the farmers and the farmers’ sons were sharing ideas for the best/fastest responding ammo suppliers. The rural population of SD, all generations, were in a deliberate and open-ended shopping spree for ammunition. And it wasn’t because deer season had been extended. The people who inhabit flyover country were Wolverines long before being a wolverine was cool.

            • Dude says:

Wow, my initial comment was kind of a tongue in cheek response to the MTV video. I figured it was some sort of a fear mongering attempt by the leftist company to promote some leftist agenda without yet knowing what it was. But after your posts, maybe it’s closer to reality than I realized. Would be interesting to read your article.

No, I agree. Even when it comes to non-citizens, I don’t believe the majority of our soldiers and law enforcement officers would go against their consciences to carry out orders from a dictator that stands in the wrong. I think most American soldiers and peace officers do what they do because they believe it is right and honorable. And I’m pretty sure the large majority of the people that strive to serve and protect America are Conservative. We are a different people (Most of us anyway  ) . More and more of us are climbing out of the lukewarm bathtub and getting a little fired up about what is right. I’m right there with Uncle Ted, outcome be damned. Like you posted earlier, there is way to much flyover country that is full of us.

That’s from the transcript from Rush’s show this morning. (Fox’s poll was based on registered voters, not likely voters) I’m putting this here as a new post, but still thinking about comments upthread about the polls showing obama up over Romney. So either we are going to believe the polls (all the time) or not believe the polls (all the time).

General question: How do you perceive Rush’s summary? Is it accurate?

    • Maybe it was silly of me to say that I “believed the polls.” Clearly, the polls are all over the place and have a history of manipulation. But you can’t tell me that this is encouraging. They show a dead heat. At this time before the 2008 election, polls showed MCain (who wasn’t yet the clear nominee) enjoying several points lead against Obama among registered voters. Look how well that turned out. We need polls to universally show 5% Romney lead at this time for us to have any confidence of victory. ANY confidence. That’s not happening. Keep praying.
